  1. :rotf: :shake: And for the record...not much for custom plates here, but I somehow wound up with one on each of my vehicles, and I got no problem showing them off as I like them both :D But to think you wasted my time typing those damn VIN numbers :wall: :fool: They are probably not right anyway, cause you get 5 or 6 in and all the numbers and letters start to mix together in a string of confusion, and I am still a look-at-keyboard when I type person, so there is bound to be an error in there somewhere   -James
  2. If you don't think it's a big deal, then post your VIN and license plate number... :hmm: Umm, appearantly you misread me...I'm not arguing with anyone here...I was just wondering :D
  3. A sawzall and cutting torch...you should get close enough to chizel it the rest of the way off with an air hammer  OK, so there is an easier way. Flip it up at the pivot point, and then take a flat head and (while its flipped up) pull that little tab you can see in the pic out...it only comes out a few milimeters, the whole assy should stay flipped up on its own...just wiggle the assy up and off the rods. Easier done than said. -James
  4. :hmm: Wow, I have REALLY been sucking at this quoting thing rescently...sorry  -James
  5. IMHO, high mileage oil is a scam that some of the oil companies use to charge more for what is essentially the same product. I hesitantly/doubtfully switched to High Mileage Valvoline in my '02 Toyota Tundra at 150,000 miles because it started using about a quart of oil consistantly every 3,000 miles...Immediately upon switching, it stopped using oil. The high mileage stuff actually has a different hue and a significantly different smell, so there is something different about it. If I still had that truck  I would still be running it. In the case of the 4.0 though, the tolorances, etc aren't what the newer designs are, so you can be a little more lenient on how you treat the motor. I had briefly concidered a synthetic oil for my MJ, but I just feared the worst with leaks popping up everywhere, thats why I just went with a heavy duty affordable oil and called it done. -James
  6. I think it really depends on the weather where you live. If it gets cold, you don't want to go too thick. If it gets hot (or you have burning/leaking issues), you don't want to go too thin. I used to run 10/40 (used a little, dripped a dab here and there), but this last oil change I switched to Delo 15/40 (more or less same as Rotella) Everyone raves about it, and it seems to be a happy medium between too thick and too thin, and its still reasonably priced. Here in Tahoe it gets in the 70's in the summer, and the 20's in the winter...I plan to stick with Delo 15/40 5,000 mile oil changes from here on out...for what its worth. -James
  7. Why? The newer style door panels are so much better! I'll put it this way, I dunno about the window crank location, but I am currently doing the opposite swap ('99 panels on my '87 doors, all power...only because I don't want to have to deal with mis-matched doors right now...for as much as I would LOVE those 1 piece windows  ) I have to drill new holes for the snap clips, and the inside door handle/lock panel is in a different location, so I am going to cut a hole (in my case, farther back) and re-bend some rods. For me that'll be the easy part, the wiring is going to be the fun part :ack: -James

  9. Hey, for those of you that I haven't PM'd yet (or even those of you that I have), I am heading to Washington Dec 8th. Just a fun getaway, exploratory trip (considering a possible move there). Prob gonna post up somewhere in the Seattle/Tacoma area.?. I'll be there all day the Wed the 9th, Thurs the 10th and Fri the 11th (but I have plans in the Seattle area until about 3pm on the 11th). Prob gonna head home Sat the 12th, but maybe drag it out until Sunday :dunno: If anyone in the area, or within a reasonable drive has the day off and wants to hit the trails, I'm gonna be driving the MJ and wouldn't mind exploring a bit with someone who knows the area, as I don't know anything about Washington. I'm also gonna have my dirtbike with me, so if there's anyone who rides DEFINATELY hit me up as I'm itchin to do some of this Washington singletrack insanity I always hear about :D Let me know VIA PM BEFORE the 6th (I hit the road on the 6th, but spending a couple days with family in Northern Cali) -James
  10. I must be old. The first video looks like a waste of good/expensive rubber. The second looks like a course a stock Comanche could handle. The truck, now that IS cool! Ugh, your killing me with the criticism!!! :shake: OK, so yes...a waste of good/expensive rubber did cross my mind too, HOWEVER, think outside the box a bit...are you telling me you get no fun out of stabbing a throttle to the floor, and have a 4x4 COMANCHE (of all things) throw you back in your seat, holding on for dear life as it reaches 0-60 in seconds, all while getting 25+ miles to the gallon, at WORST!!!? :brows: C'mon, usually not needed I'll admit, but it sure is nice to have that on reserve for when you do And my subaru could damn near do that course, but the diesel sound out of an MJ is what makes it so awesome...So if this guy is a member on here, WHY ISN'T HE CHIMING IN!!! Does anyone have a link to his build, on here or elsewhere?...I want to see a picture of every square inch and know EVERYTHING about that truck as I WILL someday build my own 4bt MJ. I just gotta find the money for it :hmm:  -James
  11. :rotf: OK, I got it now. I for some reason never saw it that way, always thought there was the concern of someone "stealing" a vehicles "identity" or something :shake: It just never made sence until now. FORTUNATELY, I don't think I have too much to worry about driving a base model POS subaru and an MJ...not too many people set and determined to steal those, I can see the concern with high dollar cars though.  -James
  12. WOW, nice job! Bet that thing hits HARD I got one in the works, Sub/amps/speakers and storage...been dragging my feet on it, but I'm about to take a 2,500 mile roadtrip Dec 6th with the MJ, so that just lit a fire under my @$$ to get going on it to finish it in the next week...I'll post pics...but until then to get an idea of what It'll be like: The sub will be center mounted, the side screens (contoured to the sub box) are going to be storage compartments and on the opposite sides of the storage compartments will be equally high/angled speaker boxes housing either component 5.25's or 3 way pioneers...havent yet decided. Either way, I have plenty of black material that I will wrap the whole thing in (except the brushed metal stuff, that will stay natural) when its done. -James
  13. Never understood...why is it some people are so wierd about the VIN on their vehicle? And for that matter, license plates (being blocked out or blurred in pics)? Its information anyone can get by looking at the vehicle, but cannot easily be duplicated :dunno: Anyway, not to steal your thread...just curious. -James
  14. Yee haw, my turn! For as much as I want the '97+ doors, I don't want to be running around with mis-matched paint while I wait for a paint job, so for now I am just going to put the '97+ interrior door panels onto my '87 doors that have '94 electrical in them (still with me? :rotf: ) At least your writeup will help me in my attempts, thanks! I hate electrical :fs1: But, I did score some nice door panels at p-n-p with drivers door switches from a 2-door, and I got all the door wiring out of the '99 to work with  Thanks again! Let the fun begin... -James
  15. Outsourced through Archer Brothers Racing. Its possible it was an option, but both mine (#54) and #24 didn't have them; I have seen 1 (unknown #) in Sacramento without one, #66 without one and another unknown # in a junkyard without one...so that is my assumption :dunno: I have to agree with JBHILL on the Lund. I would contact them and see if they can help you any. -James
  16. If you are referring to the "streetcomanche", they did not come with them. I am almost 100% sure they were an aftermarket item. -James
  17. Due to the shape of these panels, that is a common area to dent in. Unfortunately most of the time it stretches the sheet metal to where a simple "pop" won't fix it, and if it does pop out, it will pop back in equally as easy; the only remedy to this situation is heat, requiring you strip the exterrior paint to bare metal, and strip the door of all flammable/meltable materials...with one person pushing dent out from the inside (with something other than your body, lol) someone from the outside torches the metal around the center of the dent to blistering hot temps (a standard propane torch you can get from the hardware store works fine), then with the inside pressure still applied, the heat is removed...this causes the metal to shrink as it cools back to its somewhat original state. Sounds worse than it really is. Just my experience  Good luck! -James
  18. Thats a good looking truck there! NICE setup, black on black - shortbed - 6 cyl - 5 spd - 4x4 What part of Cali u from?
  19. :agree: For what its worth, I wasted my money on one of those Cigarette lighter Red Cross 12v heaters they sell at Wal-Mart for camping use; I had it set up to a brand new and freshly charged deep cycle battery in the camper shell of my truck. Used it one time; left it on all night. 18 degrees outside. Barely took the chill off; by 6am it drained the deep cycle completely. Brrr, what fun it is waking up to a frozen body, shivering uncontrollably, knowing you will have to crawl out of your barely warm-enough to survive sleeping bag to reach for your freezing clothes, and then put them on :D Think I'll try one of those 12v blankets next time :hmm: -James
  20. I got mine from Kragen auto parts; in stock for like $16.00. Its called a heater control valve assembly. Its the metal thing only; you cut the hoses and use hose clamps. Super easy  -James

    HEY ALASKA

 I had no clue of the CC existance at the time; I was in that dark, lost and confused period between the old Yahoo site and discovering all that the CC had to offer  I do regret not telling my current employer I wasn't coming home, and just diving into the deep end of the uncertain for once in my life...Oh well. I have no "real" "profession" I am basically in the automotive/snowmobile/motorcycle service and repair world, although I have done enough other things to date in life to about qualify me for most anything, lol. I so desperately tried to get in with the Honda motorcycle shop at the north end of town, because they were hiring techs and I was certainly qualified for the job, but the hiring manager was out at the time :fs1: I actually had 2 job offers, one was from Johnsons Tire and the other being Lowes in Anchorage, and the one room I ALMOST secured to rent was up in Wasilla...had the guy just called me back!!! :fs1: I had the cash in hand to buy that XJ too! It would have been enough to get me started, but the way I saw it was it was too far from home if things didn't go right because flights out of Anchorage were a PITA to coordinate, and being winter, I didn't want to risk a 3,000 mile drive home in a $600 xj I knew nothing about across the Canadian Yukon wilderness, lol. Of course, two days after I got home I had 3 phone calls for interviews from various other companies :wall: :wall: Thats just the story of my life :shake: Instead, I am hoping to go to Washington state...and at least it will get me 1 step closer to AK, for when the time comes :D  -James

    HEY ALASKA

I would be biting, had I accepted an employment offer given to me last year when I was up there. I tried so hard to finalize things, I even came crazy close to buying an xj when I was there to have transportation until I moved everything else up there...but I was only there for 2 weeks, and the job offer came the 2nd to last day and between finalizing the hiring process, a lower starting pay and unable to get ahold of anyones craigslist room-for-rent ads, I had no choice but to fold my attempts...but I WILL try again sometime. I love it up there, and WILL live there someday! I'll let you know when the day comes  -James
  23. I used to know a clamper, heard some crazy stories
  24. Equipped it with another 2 wheeled toy to carry :D '05 CRF 250r, with a 302 big bore kit (good gawd this thing is fast!) Now I got my motocrosser in addition to my dezert/enduro racer All basis are now covered...ready for anything, 2 wheels or four  (now I just need my damn Subaru to disappear and I will be set) -James
