  1. That one has been for sale for probably a year now, price hasn't changed
  2. Oh I know, back in my 20s I was an auto paint and body tech for many years, this is an ongoing thing, it's nowhere near its final form, unfortunately apartment life doesn't allow me to do it the proper way so it's going to get little bits daily until it's ready for paint
  3. Suppose I should post an update since it's been over a year. So after buying it off Torq the jeep went to a mechanic who did almost everything to it, both drive train and power train. Fixed all the leaks. The thing runs and drives incredible now, aside from a couple small quirks I'm sorting out. Unfortunately the body shop I was going to drop it off with fell through and life got busy so the jeep lived in a storage unit for the past 10 months or so on back burner. I decided to take advantage of these high car values to sell my little car and brought the jeep out of hibernation a couple months ago and started daily driving it, did a little body work to it and just sprayed the whole thing primer flat black so it's at least all 1 color & I'll keep addressing the body little bits at a time until I'm ready for paint. Scored an mj specific shell, which needs a little love too so this will keep me busy for awhile, which is ok because when key parts releases the bed corners I'd rather just replace the crunched up one anyway. Floor needs a little patch. Lot of little things while I drive it. Put in a column shift column, '97+ dash, cause it's in better shape than the other I have, swapped the power door guts from the '97+ doors, still need to sort out gauges and some electrical, but again, it functions as is. Nothing too exciting, but progress is happening. All I need is 3 of those stupid clip nuts and I can put the front bumper on, just haven't gotten around to sourcing them yet. Got a lot of neat plans for the interior, double din android auto unit and a lot of little features and creature comforts often found on todays vehicles because I'm a sort of 3d modeling and printing nerd, dabbling with carbon fiber molding and resin stuff, love tinkering with modern technology and I'm all about anything that makes my life easier as I'm a double amputee, lost both arms mid forearm. I work slow...but I get it done, somehow! Hopefully I'll have more updates in the near future
  4. Good to know about the cover, right now I just want something that'll get the truck back on the road, I can do custom stuff later. I'm trying to get out of Texas in the coming months. Currently living the apartment life, working full time and having very little dexterity a bolt in option would be ideal for now, just seeing if anything is out there. I do have some proper bucket seats for it that'll bolt in which is my plan if I can't find a bench.
  5. As the title says I'm looking for a bench seat. I have really nice '97+ buckets with new floor brackets and a center console I can trade, or I can purchase. Let me know what you got. I'm sure shipping would be ridiculous but I'm willing to drive a bit for it
  6. I'll have one available soon as I'm converting to column shift, with that said it is an automatic so I don't know if it will work cause I think manuals have some sort of key release steering lock thing? If it will work for you where are you located?
  7. I'm in south central Texas looking for a nice fitting shell for my sb mj. Willing to travel a reasonable distance, depending on price and condition. Let me know if you have anything available. Thx
  8. Had an '08 Toyota Tacoma. Was dropping stuff off at storage one afternoon, it wouldn't start, just a single click each try. Clearly a bad starter. Called for a tow truck to take it to the shop I worked at 45 miles away & arranged a ride home. I bought a starter but put it off for a week cause a starter job on those is a real PITA. The day came, got it into the shop, popped the hood. Went to disconnect the battery and that was the moment I realized I had forgot to tighten the negative battery terminal when I replaced the battery a couple weeks prior 🙄 Snugged that up and it fired right up 🤣
  9. Haha, well I guess that works Pete, changing the name of the thread 😝 Anyway I will! I'm no longer physically able to do my own work so there really isn't much to show for progress since I'm dropping it off, having someone else do the work and picking it up when its done so not much to talk about...but I'm really excited to get this one finished & start enjoying it. I was looking at new vehicles when torq and I were chatting one day and he said he was going to sell it. Wasn't much to consider, I knew I wanted it despite the extensive work it needed.
  10. Recovered my account after years of inactivity heh. Anyway, guess I should drop in and say hi. I bought this truck off Torq, this will be the 5th mj I've owned. It's been at the mechanic for a couple weeks now getting a complete refresh. The list is...long. Anyway, I expect to get it back next week (in 100% mechanically sound condition!), hopefully start digging into the interior, and come April its going to the bodyshop to get the cosmetics sorted out. It's going to be my daily driver here in Texas, not lifting it or 4x4 swapping, just making it a nice clean daily driver. That said, not sure its worth starting a new thread on, but I'll post some updated pics when it's all done 😁
  11. Well, congratulations to Eric in Canada as the proud owner of a fine little mj...if your on here, if not I will be sure he knows about the club. Spoke with him earlier today and he seems like a really good guy so I am convinced this truck is going to a good home. Sellers remorse has set in though  I'll be back someday, just no room for a Comanche in my life right now.
  12. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried contacting a hitch company like reese/drawtite/curt/etc and asked? I know they did make the hitches at one point, but probably no longer do because its not profitable for them to stock them...but my bet would be they still have the build sheet filed away and really no special parts are required aside form a little cutting and bending of metal stock...I don't see why they wouldnt gladly take the business of a special order for a reasonable price if they still have the design specs on file. Just saying its worth try.
  13. Haha, always something...I just can't win :rotf: can't say I don't say in the ebay ad it has scratches and dings! Its 24 year old paint on a truck...unfortuantely the original owner didnt see the truck being in the situation it is today, so a little nik-and-ding here and there unfortunately wasnt at the top his concern :(
  14. Thats my mj on ebay with them installed, yes they expensive and yes they are well worth it. I have run several different setups from halogen to HID, these blow them all away. Primarily because of the concentration of the light output, it is so precise and even with a firm cut off line that doesnt blind oncoming traffic (the DOT approval isnt all bad either). I did a clear bra material over the lense for additional protection, and it is some high impact plastic. I actually originally purchased them for the lifted black xj in my avatar parked behind the mj, for both light output and less draw for running the additional roof lights off-road, but opted to remove them as the xj is a wheeler (ok, project in progress...but I do plan to wheel it once I get the cage in) and my concern was not rock chips on the way to the trail but those random trees that get in yer way on the trail resulting in those all too familiar battle scars...too costly to replace the LED's vs. a PIAA halogen conversion setup with inexpensive HID. I got comparison pics somewhere with these LED headlights vs. HID vs. halogen if anyone really wants me to post them...just going o have to dig a little for them.
  15. By the way, I tried to get back to johnj about the pics...not sure if he got the link but I put all the pics on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/101384152@N02/
  16. Its my truck (surprised nobody saw the ebay sellers name and recognized it from here...but I know I am not very active here anymore I so I have probably been long forgotten). This is the one I just got a few months back. Thanks for all the props; yes, it is a little gem, and yes, I stole the wiring harness from my '88 xj for the power windows and locks, and I did order brand new OEM style window regulators and lock solenoids, and yes, the door panels are out of an xj limited. No, I am not just trying to feel out the market, I started the reserve at $7,000 and dropped it to $6,500...basically just trying to get my investment back; ended up with too many vehicles and honestly I feel guilty driving this one in fear it will get banged up or I will rack up a ton of miles on it. Not too desperate to sell it but don't 'need it' either. I think I have it priced fairly, and reason I stated I didn't want to make the reserve known, was I had concern if I stated $7,000 reserve, 1/2 the people would not even bid as it may be out of their budget and only a few select would bid, possibly resulting in a lower overall price...I suppose a bad approach as many are thinking what you all are that I am just feeling it out, so I later added my reserve. Lesson learned. If the truck doesn't sell I am not going to go through the hassle of relisting it, but that does not mean I still wouldn't be open to selling it, if anyone on here is interested let me know...$6,500 really is my absolute bottom line otherwise I will be loosing money and I hate loosing money, especially on a deal I don't need to do, but will still be willing to sell it for reasons stated. We will see what happens. If it doesnt sell and anyone on here is interested shoot me an email at crf136n@gmail.com or phone at 775-351-five eight eight nine. -James
  17. Thats why I would consider that 2.5 td that jeep used from the factory for overseas units over a 4bt or anything else; I agree in that diesels not made for our trucks is more expensive and awkward in results. I also agree with not using the old renault for the mentioned reasons. Why you ask? Well, why do I dump thousands of dollars into an old arguably out dated jeep comanche when I could just go buy a nice newer up to date ford ranger, toyota tacoma or something similar? Its because thy are unique and you don't see them every day. We are used to diesels in big trucks here in the states, and its just another vehicle, but once you see something usual that diesel, factory or otherwise it changes to the entire character of the vehicle...it make it fun and different. Thats desirable for many. For myself, I like the idea of making a practical daily driver jeep that I can afford to drive, at these fuel prices high 20's to low 30's mpg's sounds pretty damn good, very realistic with a 4 cyl diesel...have yet to figure out how to get that out of the 4.0...half of that a bit more realistic with the 4.0 ;) Furthermore I like the thought of tinkering with biodiesel/alternative fuel kinda stuff, not for any reason other than the challenge and fun. I have a buddy that has a '91 Ford f250 diesel he has been running 50% filtered used motor oil mixed with the diesel fuel for years, gets 20 miles per gallon and the end result is $2 per gallon fuel vs $4 per gallon...EPA probably wouldnt approve and it may take its toll on other parts of the truck I don't know about but it still runs like a champ, and while probably not the route I would go thats the kind of ingenuity that makes it fun. I dunno, thats my reasoning...I'm sure everyone has theirs. Maybe they just want some cool smoking stacks coming out of the bed, I know those diesel guys geek over that (I have yet to figure the why in that one out myself, but I am sure many wonder why I do half the stuff I do lol)
  18. There are a couple of these running around on naxja and cherokee forum, but no real spectacular write ups and I was just curious why its not more common. Apparantly cost varies significantly vehicle to vehicle depending on supply/demand and all these guys wanting nissan skyline half cuts and other high performance cars are paying a mint...but I would imagine a diesel xj would not be that highly sought after. From what I hear the trick to getting the best deal is to find a reputable high volume importer, but there are so many of them I have been hesitant to contact them unless I was confident...I just havent put the effort into it yet. From what I understand they can get just about anything you desire, but its one of those deposit up front and when they find one then it will be sent so there could be a significant delay. I know its very likely to get a complete running diesel xj in europe for around $1,000 usually with 75,000-150,000 miles on it, and shipping depending on the technicalities would run about $2,000 europe to east coast but from my understanding at the US port is where the roadblock is with a DOT and EPA inspection to ensure it conforms, and apparantly they won't even let leave the dock regardless of intensions unless certain conditions are met lots of paperwork done...not to say people don't do it; I wonder if EPA has some sort of exemption for vehicles designated as 'alternative fuel' because if it can be applied for as that being diesel is easy to swap perhaps they would approve...and I would imagine the only real gripe DOT would have is the right hand drive. I don't know...all stuff running through my mind. For as nice as it would be to have a complete xj to work with plus all the spare parts and some cash back for scrapping the frame may be more trouble than its worth, going back to the half cut idea. I do stand corrected too in that an xj half cut wouldn't come with the tranny, I guess only front wheel drives come with them, but they use the ax-15 anyway; may have to track a bellhousing down. As for the motors its my understanding people either love them or hate them. I have noticed at trend in the people who love them wrench on their own and the oned that hate them pay for repairs. Apparantly they have a bit of a head problem if they get hot, but havent exactly narrowed it down to a gasket problem or head warping/cracking problem...one general consensus is that they are very easy to work on but parts can be expensive...but thats not to say they won't go for a long time. We have all seen the videos of these crazy europeans towing their 'caravans' aka camper trailers that are five times the size of the vehicle and making the front of the vehicle looking like its going to come off the ground...and they complain of overheating issues?...just sayin. Again though, it begs the question why this isnt a more common swap in the jeep world...maybe there is some common knowledge about these motors I am not aware of, unless it really is just a matter of availibility. I have been to Japan and have seen these diesel xj's first hand so I know they exist there as our major source of half cuts; but other countries sell them too as vehicles are junked/wrecked. Maybe I should just see what importers my buddies went through and contact them...if the price is right just get it and do it and find out first hand if it was a good/bad idea and report back haha. My xj's 4.0 makes some weird noises sometimes and with 240k may not be a bad idea to just be proactive and get my backup rather than wait for it to croak.
  19. A diesel swap has been something on my mind for my xj when the 4.0 dies...I have not found much/any info on swapping a 2.5 diesel from a european spec XJ; those 2.5 td xj's seem to be everywhere over there and in asia and from what I hear are a dime a dozen cheap die to their availability. Why if diesel is such a desireable swap is it so unheard of to either buy and ship a diesel xj, or go through an import company that specialized in selling 'half cuts' and just get everything needed, motor-wiring-tranny-computer-etc, out of an xj for a direct swap into the same frame?...are the 2.5 diesel motors junk? I have several buddies who have purchased honda/toyota/nissan half cuts delivered to their door and I think its a great idea, rarely do they spend more than $2,000-2,500 for a total swap and they have everything. I know for some people smogging would be a problem but the rest of us fortunate enough to not deal with that crap I would imagine would be livin the dream with this swap getting 30 mpg's out of our xj's/mj's. I dunno, but would really like it if someone could help me understand this.
  20. Hey; so I know OEM rear bumpers are impossible to find but perhaps someone out there has a good left side end cap. The end cap on my truck right now is ok but a little scuffed, so I am looking for a near perfect one for this truck. If you happen to have one let me know and how much you want for it. Thanks :) Image Not Found
  21. All I know is the ba10 master cyl in my '89 MJ is different in that it has a threaded fitting for the hydraulic line like brake lines do; the one to the external slave ax-15 has a different hydraulic line that is like a plastic line and uses a push in style fitting with a pin holding it in. I'd imagine the internal workings of the slave cyls are the same but the housings are different, and would be more work than its worth to try and adapt the hydraulic lines. The master cyl are only like $30-40 new and the lines are a bit more new but dirt cheap at wrecking yards...hell, I know I got at least one extra for the ax-15 around here somewhere...possibly even the master cyl too; there yours if I can find them and you wanna pay shipping...but the line is quite akward and would require a good size box so shipping may not be too cost effective.
  22. HAHA; that little smilie driving the Comanche really is me, thought it looked familiar...I just need some black rims on my MJ and everything else from the paint to the decals match... . :MJ 1: . Image Not Found :rotfl2:
  23. Prob not gonna be rackin up the miles on the mj too fast, its more a weekend cruiser for hauling my dirtbike around. The police package '96 xj is my next burning project...and toy... as it sat a year ago after buying it for $200 :) As it sits today, after WAY too much time and money; just can't stop but in too deep now, gotta keep goin! Image Not Found Just Empty Every Pocket...amen. Why the HELL did I ever buy a jeep as my first car back when I turned 16!?! They need to have minimum requirements to own one; perhaps a college education in economics to show financial understanding and responsibility and come with caution waivers that must be signed by law stating the addictive nature and financial/family ruin associated with the addiction...not to mention the acceptance of kitchen tables becoming work benches and spare bedroom closets becoming parts storage units...yup, been accused of them both. . :MJ 1: .
  24. OK, so I have gotten caught up enough on some of the other stuff to get a good look at the electrical issues; it is in fact the fuse box. Apparently the leaking clutch master has done enough damage over time to where it compromised the fuse box. Pulling all the fuses out I found it is bad connections and loose fuse terminals in the box, a couple of which are broken completely (like the parking lights) if I wiggle wires around in the back of the fuse box the dome lights dim and go bright again as the fuse prong connection makes good/bad connection with the fuse. This looks like a disaster as all the wires going into the fuse box are the same ones spread throughout the cab of the truck. I want to repair this in full; obvious solution is to replace the fuse box altogether but to do it right is going to be quite the procedure with all the wires. Since this seems to be a known problem, has anyone found a reasonable solution? I suppose I can narrow down the bad connections where the box is damaged too badly and get a second universal fuse panel for those, but I would prefer a more factory original finish. It actually seems to have compromised the little copper connectors more than the box as the box looks fine other than being damp. Some fuses are bone dry, and some are damp. The damp ones are mostly the bad connections and have a black goo on the fuse blades; the little plastic housing on some of the fuses had ruined the fuse by breaking apart as I pulled the fuse. I am going to go through every connection one at a time as I am having luck with using a little sharp tipped poker and bending the copper connectors together so they clamp on the fuse blades better; I'll have to figure out the broken female connectors in the box when I get there. I want to get all this brake fluid off the fuse box assembly altogether, and its in places I can't get to...thoughts on disconnecting the battery and with a backsplash and catch can hit the whole fuse box with brake parts cleaner spray and let it dry fully before I reconnect everything? I don't know what else to do but I last thing I want is for this to get any worse or even worse an electrical fire cause that would ruin my day REAL quick! (and yes, the leaking master cyl has been replaced now) As always, thanks in advance for any info.
  25. ...although that limited slip rear end is kinda nice for driving in the snow ;)
