  1. The carrier is the part that the ring gear bolts to, it also holds the spider gears. If you still have 3.07gears the 4.56 ring gear won't fit the stock carrier. here's a carrier with the ring gear bolted to it.
  2. Brand doesnt matter much, the install is the important part. If you still have stock gears you will also need a new carrier
  3. If you can get a good deal then buy it. It would be real nice if he got control arms and or drop brackets with it and depending how old it is it could have full length front coils. I bought a RRO lift about 5 years ago and most of the original kit is still in use between my two Jeeps and I have yet to have a single problem with any part of it. Now if you were talking buying new from them then there are probably better companies to do business with. But if I needed something from them I wouldnt have a problem buying from them again.
  4. No its a short box here's a good side shot a few days before I bobbed it.

  6. Minimum install kits are about $40 they come with shims, pinion seal, marking compound, and a cover gasket. A full kit is around $100-$150 and comes with everything the minimum kit has plus new carrier bearings and pinion bearings, depending on axle they can come with other bearing and seals as well. Not sure on your 8.8 but since you have 3.07s you will need a new carrier for your D30 they are about $70-$80.
  7. The 2spd is about $2000 the 4spd is more.
  8. Ive heard mixed reviews. Really what would be best is an Atlas but the 4.1 is more realistic for most people.
  9. I'm not sure if anyone else offers a 4.1:1. Check this out, this is a great tool. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
  10. The 231 to 300 would be best. The issue with doubling 231s is once the torque is multiplied by the first case it now exceeds the maximum torque of the second case so you run the risk of braking it. It might be easier to run a 4.1:1 in your current case. Also if you go to a D44 you can go as high as 5.89 in the axles, depending whats available for the rear axle. If you under geared you will find yourself hitting obsticles with more speed which isnt gonna be good with your current setup
  11. Either would work. Check this out you may be interested in coming out. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1096725
  12. Getting a tire bound up can break a shaft too.and you can't say you won't throttle into it,some situations require some wheel speed. Your gonna have to crawl as much as possible and stay out of the rocks, my concern is a 4.88 isnt gonna be deep enough to do that without a 4.1:1 or a crawl box. I have us standard gears 4.88s in my MJ, so far they have been fine. Check this place, they had the best prices when I did mine. http://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/ This place is good to, they carry motive. http://www.rwkhaussupply.com/
  13. I wouldnt go off the decals alone, I could make a phone call and have a guy at my shop today who could reproduce and install those on my MJ and you wouldnt be able to tell.
  14. I told John that someone linked this, he thought it was cool. He also pointed out how old that video is and how much faster the car is now. Its down to 10.2 in the quarter now.
  15. The MJ was overheating on me the other day, turns out the used 4.0l radiator I just put in blew a hole in the core. So ive got a brand new one on its way. The good news is my electric fan set up is working flawlessly.
  16. Wait till you get a locker, it will put a lot more stress on things. Also keep in mind that the center section is the weakest link in your axle so if you start upgrading shafts and such your going to start stripping out ring gears. If your set on 37s I would atleast go to a D44, it can be built to handle 37s and can accept a more suitable gear ratio.
  17. Doesnt have anything to do with the terrain here, I don't know were he wheels but its probably not any of our OHV areas. Another thing to keep in mind, he has also been talking on another thread about getting a front locker. Talk about D30 time bomb.
  18. Why 37s? A 37" tire is just way too much for a D30. Unless your building a mall crawler your asking for problems. Even if you build the 30 I wouldnt go over a 35" tire which would also be better suited for 4.88s
  19. I would hit the wrecking yards
  20. RRO has decent products thier problems are slow shipping and customer service related.
  21. I would stay away from the BA10/5 if you want a 5spd find an AX15.
  22. If you go SOA with 3" lift springs you will need around 9" up front if you want it to sit level, 7" might give it a stockish rake. I had to go almost 7" up front to get the truck in the pics to sit level.
  23. If you want a 35x12.5 the 15x8 will be fine.
  24. Yes stock fender flairs in stock location, 5" front(could be a little more since I have a 4cyl), and soa on stock 4x4 leafs.
