That is definitely NOT true -- as my ex-wife discovered when she parked my cherry 1968 Javelin on a hill and didn't think she needed a parking brake. The guy whose car she smashed was not amused ... Same here only it was a cherry 1983 CJ7 in a gym parking lot.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1991,comanche,4.0l+l6,1181775,brake/wheel+hub,parking+brake+cable,1696 Parking brake cable for a 91 shorted range from $11.57 to $21.79 +shipping for a new one on Rockauto. I've generally had quick deliveries from them. I too would order the correct part and deal with it until it arrived.

I hope it doesn't present problems when used on a Renix. I don't know if they are a direct bolt in.
-
I thought about that, but it looks like it's a molded plug and wanted something at least a little water resistant and would stay plugged in better than just female disconnects. I found a replacement cord online for $20, some were as much as $30 +shipping. Yes, it can run on house current or 12vdc. I've read it's actually more efficient on 12vdc. It uses a different cord for each.

If it's an 86 it might have an AMC20 rearend. The diff cover is perfectly round on an AMC20.

Odd cooling fan (delay) question
schardein replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used to run dual electric fans on my CJ7 with a 4.0. Wired the relays hot all the time, and used a temp switch I mounted in the water neck to trigger the relays. The fans would stay on a minute or two after shutting down the engine, never enough to kill the battery. -
If you pull a manifold from the yard, save the heavy, thick metal washers. Even if you don't need them for your manifold, they are for a 3/8" bolt and come in handy for other projects needing a heavy washer.
-
No, I think someone already mentioned it's in the downpipe on the HOs. The manifold in the picture was pressure washed, light hit with a wire wheel, some 80 grit paper here and there, and then sprayed down with por-15 metal prep and brushed with por-15 hi temp paint. Or was it just hi-temp aluminum spray bomb on this one? Can't remember now. I think they are a low grade stainless like the originals so rust through shouldn't be a problem.

Alright noted. Not as cheaply made as they seem. Very cool idea. I was thinking of just spending the money and buying a good one since i plan on keeping the thing for a long while. I have been searching the pic a part for the past couple weeks and the XJs around here are like a bake sale after a full day of people foundling the brownies and all the good stuff is gone and all thats left are stripped bolts, snipped wires, and greasey hand printed interior i read the reviews on that one and was i think i may get something that fits a little better hahaha Over the years, I'm gonna guess I've looked at 500 XJs /20 MJs in the yards. Only found 1 aftermarket header and maybe 8 of these type manifolds. They take about 30-45 minutes to pull depending on how the downpipe goes. I think they are found/interchange on some Grand Cherokees also. Anyway, on those odds, getting one off amazon may be the ticket.

1991 MJ. Can't speak to fitment problems on a renix, but this type aftermarket manifold worked on both the early and late HO intake manifolds. If you are going in, now is the time to replace the driver side motor mount if it hasn't been done.

I have my 91 XJ, 91 MJ, and I ran a 1991 4.0 in my CJ7 for over 10 years. All of the factory manifolds crack. Every one I look at in the junkyard are cracked. The ones repaired by welding are cracked. Using a factory replacement would be a waste of money. It will crack. I got a Borla for my CJ7. Works fine and no cracks in 10 years. Got a good deal on a used one on ebay, but still expensive. For my XJ and MJ, replaced both of the cracked originals with the "cheap" one you listed, with the bellows on the end tubes. And, they are used. I pulled them off XJs in the junkyard. Paid between $45 and $60 for them at picapart prices. Both are still going strong with thousands of miles on them. The intake/exhaust manifold-to-head gasket and manifold-to-downpipe seal are cheap at Rockauto.

I was driving my CJ7 through Nebraska after attending the Jeep Jamboree in Sturgis. Trooper pulled me over for speeding, was very cool about it. No ticket, and gave me a notecard that showed how to calculate your speed using a stopwatch and mile markers (60 mph=60 seconds between mile markers, etc). Random note, this was in 1997. There were only two TJs at the event, one with dealer plates. All CJs and YJs.

So I recently splurged, and got a good deal on a used ARB portable freezer/refrigerator. Got it yesterday, and it works. Problem is, it only included the house current cord. The vehicle dc power cord is missing. Amazon has this https://www.amazon.com/ARB-10910076-12-24C-Cord/dp/B00NIOBC1G/ref=pd_rhf_dp_s_cp_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=EQXFT3PSPVJJYXPVBPMM for $28. I was wondering if anyone knew a source for just the end that goes into the fridge. I am going to hard wire it anyway. Or does anyone know a good place (other forum) to ask? Thanks!

broken hazard button
schardein replied to ComancheLover90's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you just need a replacement button, I'd look for one at a junk yard. They are the same as XJs so finding one shouldn't be to difficult. One the other hand, if the piece inside the column, that you screw the button into, is the problem, then you need a new turn signal switch. The hazard/4 way flasher is a part of it. -
24, 26, 28mm front anti sway bars
schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Best I can remember, the thinner type brackets are the originals from my 91 MJ. I doubt they had different brackets for the same year, even for the different diameter bars, but I guess it's possible. Maybe it was swapped earlier in it's life? Or the bushings/brackets had been replaced at some point. FWIW the 28mm bar looked original to the 91 XJ Limited at the Pic-a-part. Just looked at my 91 XJ, it has the enclosed type, and I'd bet their original. -
 Please post up your results when tested. Looks like someone already makes them I do like the tapered ID for flow. They also sell the washer type in a kit with 3 different. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Allstar-Performance-1-3-4-in-Aluminum-Radiator-Hose-Restrictor-P-N-30242-/142084005752?hash=item2114dddf78:g:n8YAAOSwgZ1Xrod5&vxp=mtr Ebay ad indicates for use in the lower hose... wonder if it makes a difference?

I"ve read that article and wondered if it would help. I'm am going to repair the AC in my XJ, MJ, and Chevy. Recently did a 1500 mile trip in the XJ with no AC and on hot afternoons and going up slight grades, the temp would rise. Kicking on the heater would bring it back down. Not fun running the heater with no AC and its 95 degrees out. What size did you cut the outside diameter?

I think the 91 was a Limited. I grabbed the gold colored body emblems, just cause. -

schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bolts right on. Yep. And since I just had it all apart about 6 months ago, it was a 30 minute job, not counting cleaning up and painting the bar and brackets. Would take considerably longer if you have the factory front skid plate. -
24, 26, 28mm front anti sway bars
schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought of that, but I generally don't carry wrenches that big in my toolpak (tool backpack khttp://www.toolpak.com/html/PACKStoolpakoriginal.html). I made a simple cardboard template and took it for a while, which is what got me the 26 instead of the 28. The calipers were cheap at Harbor Freight, and now that I carry them, I've used them for other things. The tools I carry have been fine tuned over about 10 years... hm that might be another thread. -
24, 26, 28mm front anti sway bars
schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've hit about 7 junkyards in the past month from Ohio to Arizona. If I remember correctly, it was from a 91 XJ with a factory rear hitch. It wasn't from a Grand. -
My Comanche had a 24mm anti-sway bar from the factory. I replaced it with a 26mm, thinking it was a 28mm before I got a caliper to carry with when parts hunting. Found a actual 28mm bar recently so thought I would post some pics. That last pic shows two different style bushing mounting brackets. I prefer the one that traps the edges of the bushing.

Loosing power under throttle...
schardein replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've experienced similar symptoms in the past, not exactly the same platform, but... Replacing the fuel pump and finding a obviously clogged fuel filter sock solved it for me. Replace the after pump filter also. I suspected heat soak/vapor lock at the time, but the pump/filter solved it. -
