While I can appreciate what you are saying, I haven't had this experience. And I live in the country with long stretches of winding country roads with little light pollution. Of course this is in a CJ7 with the round headlights, I have no experience with the E-codes in my XJ or MJ. Both of them I run Sylvania Xtravision headlights, because I've found several pairs cheap in the junkyard. I don't run any lights except my headlights on my CJ, but on my XJ and MJ, I have Hella 550 driving lights mounted where the original fog lights go. I aim my driving lights to be just past the low beams, a little further out. This way I have 3 options, low beam, low beam with driving lights, and high beam.

If vehicle safety inspections affect you, that is consideration. The odd thing, is that these are better than DOT compliant ones, in that they put light where you need it, and don't blind oncoming drivers. When I lived in a state with inspections, I had to change my headlights out to pass inspection. My current state has inspections, but they don't check the headlights for the "DOT" mark, they just care if they work.

No, those are the DOT compliant ones. You want the E-code (European) (ECE) versions. Lots of light on the road where you need it, and doesn't blind oncoming drivers. Shop around, you can occasionally find these quite a bit cheaper. I always check between Amazon, eBay, and some of the standard catalog websites like Quadratec, Summit, Jegs, etc.

I've posted before in several places on social media, I don't care if they light up the backside of the moon, most LED headlights look... well, I was going to say 'hideous', but I'll tone that down and just say "out of place" on most vintage rigs. Maybe I'm just getting old, because I also think todays styles of most aftermarket custom aluminum wheels are ugly as sin as well.

In my CJ7, I've ran Slyvania Xtravision (reg halogen headlights), Autopal H4 housings, and currently, Hella E-code housings. All with headlight relays. The Hella E-codes are my favorite so far.

Clements Auto Salvage near Branson, MO used to be known as a Jeep junkyard. But, I haven't been there in over 20 years. I don't know if it is still done, but one of our members used to post "all the Comanches for sale on Craigslist" in the classified section. An occasional post of a nationwide search engine results for MJs in junkyards might be helpful. Fog in/on gauge cluster?

To me that looks like condensation rather than smoke. Maybe... there is some moisture that has gotten inside the instrument cluster, somehow. With the lights on, the gauge lights heat up that moisture and cause the condensation you see inside the gauge cluster. Turn off the lights, heat goes away, condensation clears. Has it rained recently in your neck of the woods? Do you have water leaks in the cab, from the windshield seal or door seals? Have you cleaned the interior with a wet cloth, and gotten water behind the dash or gauge cluster? -
I understand. I pulled these at a salvage yard and paid for them. So I have time/money tied up in them and would like a return on my work. Be patient and you may find someone who just wants to clear out their closet or garage. And keep an eye on your local pick-n-pull places, Comanches turn up from time to time.

The darker rear carpet piece is gone. I have the lighter one. It has some stains as can be seen, otherwise solid. I also have the upper plastic trim piece. I was thinking $50 each plus shipping. I'd normally expect more for the carpet piece, but this one has stains. I have not tried to clean it other than vacuuming it. The plastic piece would include all the plastic "fir tree" clips, and the carpet would include the two screws that hold it to the floor. I saw your post in the tech section, I would like to mention that from the factory, these trucks all had the plastic trim piece, but generally did not have the rear carpet section unless they had bucket seats. At least that has been my experience from seeing these trucks in junkyards.

This may not pertain to your situation directly, but I'll tell my story. I had taken a lot college prep courses in high school, but wasn't sure what i wanted to do as I graduated. I ended up going to Southern Illinois University in their Automotive Technology program. Before this, I hadn't taken any shop classes in high school, but had done a lot of work on my own truck and read everything I could find. Of course this was before the internet so that was mostly magazines, Chilton and Haynes manuals (read front to back , like a book), and old transmission repair manuals. At SIU, I got a lot of automotive theory classes coupled with hands on work in the shop. I absolutely loved it, and literally got up every morning for school excited and couldn't wait to get to class. One of the instructors helped me get a part time job at a business that hauled mobile homes from the manufacturer to the dealer. I learned a lot there, some good and some bad. It's a challenge to work on a fleet of vehicles when the company doesn't see the value of investing in preventative maintenance. I graduated with an associates degree in Automotive Technology. The next two years would have been business type classes that would have resulted in a Bachelor's in Business. I went to the first week of classes and decided it wasn't for me. I enlisted in the USMC and was in Boot Camp 6 months later. It's funny, they made me a Motor Transport Operator, instead of a mechanic, even though I had professional training to do it. But I love the Corps and retired after 30 years of service. I still joke with people that I have a college degree, but only use it for my hobby. The one thing I will leave you with is the training I received at SIU was top notch. You hear stories of successful mechanics with no formal education, but I feel the education in basic automotive theory is invaluable and it's importance can't be overstated. It has served me well for the last 32 years. PS- I belong to several Jeep groups and automotive groups on facebook. Literally everyday, I see someone post something that is flat out wrong, or displays a misunderstanding of basic automotive repair procedures. Sometimes when I post, the reply is "I've been working on Jeeps for 15 years and I know what I am doing...". Some people think they know it all. Be careful of trusting info you get on the internet, especially facebook, and never think you know it all, and above all else, NEVER STOP LEARNING.

I've got both those pieces. Finding a box big enough to mail them is the problem. I plan to be in Blanding, UT in April but that's still quite a way from you.

I was looking under the hoods of some GM cars recently, something I don't generally do, and saw this connector again. It wasn't a Cadillac, but did have the 3.6L V6. I was focused on finding what I was looking for, so didn't note the year/model. Point is, if you have time to look, I'm sure there are other applications for this connector. Keep in mind 1986 uses a different connector. Good luck and hope you have good weather! It's been high 30s and raining here recently- not junkyard weather haha. -

Here is the pinout for both the black and regular blue buzzer boxes. I made this as a reference for bench testing them. I am assuming the XJW blue box is the same as the blue buzzer, except for the extra lead.

The timing of this is amazing. Recently scored this out of an 87 XJW. I'm out of town, so no way to test or play with it.

I need a LIKE button haha. Does the red wire go to B+? Bat Pos or Ign Pos? Or something else?
