  2. Sounds like the guy is selling them per side, right? Spencer should only need one side if he's going to copy them. I'd throw $20 in, but did Spencer say he'd plot out the pattern if we got him a side?
  3. Cool, the rear door blanks look pretty decent (in pics anyway). Pretty much like an H1 Hummer pickup. Now, if Jeep would just follow the Hummer model, and sell these as their lowest price starting model. (You could get H1 pickups in the low 30k's brand new when introduced). Roll up windows, rubber floor mat, 5spd and minimum electronics to go with the base price. Short of that, the kit would be good to upgrade some soccer mom's 4dr JK in a few years,when they saturate the market (especially if we have $5-6+ a gallon gas then).

  5. With, or without the trans depends on preference. It's simpler to leave the trans attached, but it makes it more difficult to swing the whole thing in/out of the engine compartment. Tutorial depends on what you are pulling it for, if you are R&Ring it, take pictures, and label every wire/hose/cable for reinstallation. Basically disconnect EVERYTHING (don't forget stuff you might not be able to see, like the CPS, and the trans vent line), if it's 2wd, cap the end of the trans slip yoke, if it's 4wd, pull the T-case off first. Remove whatever looks to be in the way of pulling the engine (radiator for sure). If you completely remove the trans crossmember, make sure you support the back of the trans somehow, till the crane is lifting it. Then attach you chain (usually one end of the chain at the front of the head, and the other at the rear), slowly raise the engine, pulling it forward slightly as you go, raising as the bellhousing, and trans clears the firewall/trans tunnel. At some point you may realize the hook should be slid forward, or back along the chain to better balance the load, and angle the engine. Unless you have one of those fancy hand crank balance chain-things, that means dropping the engine back onto the motor mounts, and repositioning the hook once the load is off it. Definitely some trial and error, but pulling an engine isn't hard. Always know where everyone's hands are in relation to where the engine is moving don't get under the load always keep in mind where the load might go if the chain breaks (use chain rated for the load), or if one of the attaching bolts lets go. Also, watch the back wheels of the hoist, if the engine is snagged, they could come right off the ground before you notice. The whole thing had to be angled a lot just to clear the front bodywork when going out/in in my MJ.   6. Don, 'back in the day' a friend of mine would buy Jeep dealers out of their old AMC parts. There were plenty of old decal sets to be had (mostly 1/2 sets, where the other half had been used for a body repair 10-20 years prior), but I was told old decals would dry out over time, and be worthless (decal would crack, refuse to release the backing, etc). I never bothered to 'test' the theory, so it could be an old wives tale, but I believed it at the time. Maybe one of the body guys can weigh in on this, but just a heads up from what I have always heard.
  7. I'd just like to FINISH some of the projects I already started. The 'work on my crap time', :wrench: that normally happens some time between when the job needs me, and the family needs me has shrunk down ALOT over the last few years. :doh: Oh well, if I can keep my mind away from any NEW projects, and just dig into the old ones, they'll get done.... eventually.
  8. Don, that could've just been a once/twice in a lifetime lightning blast that was VERY close to your house. Did the neighbors have anything blow up in their houses? A guy I work with had one of these last year, his interwebz modem, and cable modem fizzled, and I think a few of his smaller electronics as well, but his wife's car took the big hit. It was a fairly new car, no physical damage at all, but it sat dead as a doornail in his driveway after the blast. Next time I see him I'll have him refresh my memory to exactly what burned up, but I remember the ECM got fried, and the dealership had replace it. His insurance covered the damage. Last I remember he was still having issues with the car, and was looking to dump it. Good luck. :cheers:

That axle image was from Ebay last June, don't know if the guy re-re-re-listed it again, or not, but it looks like you got it covered now. I'm surprised that the rear was howling tho, watching the video, the whole vehicle seemed so quiet (I wanted to hear the little V4 ) BTW, do you like it, hate it, or don't care either way when someone calls it a Jeep? (I don't think I'd mind, since they are step brothers, by marriage :D )

    D44 worth

    JK Rubi 44's Front: Std size R&P (8.5" gear) High Pinion, 'thick' gears (uses 3 series carrier, normally 3.73 & below) So, the ft gears only fit HP 44's. Rear: 8.8" ring gear, 1.626" pinion (D60 size) Thick gears. It also uses larger ring gear bolts, so you have to drill out a std D44 carrier to bolt the ring gear to it. So you "might" have to clearance the housing to fit them inside a std D44, and you will need to drill out the carrier for the bigger ring gear bolts. The pinion is not going to drop in with regular D44 pinion bearings, without some work........ Winch sits inside a chopped out crossmember in this bumper (tho this side view is before the winch was mounted), there's a hand hole in the bottom plate of the bumper to access the lever. Bumper sits out about as far as stock, but with the crossmember cut, it could go back further ( I wanted to protect the nose somewhat). Winch sits feet forward, and is offset somewhat to the passenger's side obvious in this picture:(not my Jeep) more info/pics here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26491

Actually it could be argued that the firefighters originaly riding in the back were not covered by the design clause (B) but were actually covered by the exception in (C-1) as they were employees engaged in activity necessary discharge of the thier duty. Not trying to shoot you down, but if I was the prosecuter that would be my argument. They could also say that fire fighters are specially trained to ride back there. :doh: But since the manufacturer designed it to hold people (assuming they didn't offer special training to ride back there in the 1930's), I think you can still argue it's for passenger use.
  24. Shortbed box on a LWB frame would probably look something like this: I flipped the springs around on my SWB to try it out. (yeah, I didn't keep it that way for long). I forget the math, but flipping the leafs put the SWB's 113" pretty close to the LWB's. Someone with better metal skills than I could probably stretched the stock wheel wells to make it work, and ended up with a ton of tire clearance (37" Boggers in this pic for reference)

If you don't mind ruining the gear set, you can grind off the part of the ring gear teeth that interfere with the cross shaft. Uh, the only reason I'm going to this trouble is because I need the gears. I missed this part, I'll mail you the set in my scrap bin. :wrench: Let me double check their condition.
