  1. I like the valve stem ideas! I went back out an hour ago to take the valve cover off to see if I could discover what they put in the engine, and when I did I discovered they had broken the fan shroud. They must have leaned in on it or something. That's what was making that noise! Anyway, after a quick trip to Autozone for the oil filler cap it seems like everything is back to normal. I'm thinking now they were waiting for the oil to start spraying out of the filler hole and getting all over the engine. B*stards! They must have been able to open the door somehow. I always keep it locked. On another note, anyone in the Austin area recommend an alarm installer? I tried a Bulldog alarm a year ago but never could get the sensitivity right.
  2. Rob, do you mean they could just open the door and pop the hood? I didn't think about that. I have a club on the steering wheel, but nothing else. fiatslug one of my neighbors - and this house is 2 doors down, fyi - was sitting, possibly drunk, at his curb. When he saw me get into the truck, he got up quickly and it looked like he called to two other young men who came outside and stood in their driveway facing me and watching me. All three men just stood there watching. I'm pretty sure they knew what was about to happen. It doesn't look like their vehicles were hit at all. I'm so f-ing mad. I love my Comanche, but if the engine has to be disassembled I can't afford to do that and don't have the time or space (or expertise!) to do it myself.
  3. I went out this morning to start my 87 Metric Ton - I last drove it a week ago with no problems. I keep it parked on the street because it's not my daily driver and there's no room in the driveway. I noticed my neighbors watching me and gathering in the front yard to watch. I thought it was odd, but couldn't figure out why they would want to watch me. I turned the engine over and it sounded like a garbage disposal with a metal spoon caught in the blades. I immediately shut the engine off and then looked at my neighbors who were smiling and watching. I opened the previously closed shut hood and saw that the oil filler cap was gone. I checked the fluids and everything seemed fine. I couldn't see anything in the oil filler opening, so I'm going to have to take it to Jeep Masters (I'm in Austin) to take a look at it. I'm sure I'll have to tow it. How could they have opened the hood from the outside? If they did put something in the engine, I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm so full of rage right now I can't see straight. I called the cops, and they came out. It was as I expected. No witnesses, no evidence, they can't do anything.
  4. Yeah, I think a schmoe backed into that side right after I got the truck - about two years ago. The plastic chipped off there.
  5. The next (and last) thing I want to do is install a set of "turbine" wheels. I'm saving up to have them restored 'cause they're in pretty rough shape. The truck was repainted by the original owner right before he died - @ 2007.
  6. Thanks to 64 Cheyenne, I got the correct brackets to install my factory original bumper. You can see the "before" bumper below. It came with the truck when I bought it from the PO, who bought it from the original owner. If you're in the Austin / Central Texas area and want this bumper, it's yours for $50. It's pretty stout, and I think the brackets can be straightened fairly easily. And the new bumper... I got it from a donor at a local pick-n-pull. It was twisted lengthwise, so I took it to DC Bumper in San Antonio and they straightened it and refurbished it as well as primed it for $165.00. Then I got an autobody shop to repaint it for me. I repainted the plastic ends to it and the rubber/plastic add ons. I think it turned out pretty well (even though it's dusty in this pic.)
  7. Anyone with an OEM bumper use these Fey brackets? http://www.partstrain.com/store/details ... vdesc=true I've search the forum and haven't had any luck determining if these will work. Thanks! Allen
  8. Thanks for that! Acetone it is.
  9. This thread is perfectly timed for me. I just got my factory original bumper back from the refinisher, and I got it painted semi gloss black. Now I need to paint the plastic ends. The PO painted them and the paint is coming off. I've read people recommend brake fluid to remove the paint. Is that what y'all would recommend? Thanks! Allen
  10. FYI, the fog light switch from RockAuto did the trick.
  11. Oh, I wish I'd known about the discount, although at $16 it couldn't have been much! I installed a pair of these in my Comanche and I really like them. They are black plastic, but seem to be quality made.
  12. Yeah, Correy, I thought about doing that. I decided to go ahead and order it from RockAuto.
  13. Well, I should have just Googled the number 8956000025! Rockauto has it listed as a fog light switch. It looks like the right one. Anyone have any experience with replacing this switch? Is this the right one? Thanks!
  14. My "comfort/power" transmission switch is stuck in the comfort mode. I pulled it out and got the part number, but I haven't had any luck finding a replacement. It's an Indak switch, part # 8956000025. Anyone have any ideas about where to get one? Thanks!
  15. I've been following the installation info to install this basic alarm from this post http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23299&hilit=diy+alarm. The alarm includes an L.E.D. that flashes when active, and I'm trying to find a way to get it through the firewall. Any recommendations on how to snake the two wires with the LED through the firewall? Thanks, Allen
