1991 Jeep Comanche Bloomfield, CT $3000
91Pioneer replied to 87sparTruck's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I've seen that one on eBay before, I think the price was quite a bit higher though. -
I know, I refuse to pay $39 shipping for a CD & owners manual in one box. RA sucks when shipping to Canada in many situations. Not bad for some things, but not this time.
-
Before I hit up eBay, I thought I'd check here if anyone has a 91 owners manual or 91 factory service manual book or CD available. Let me know what you have.

C2C=crap fitment. Raybuck or FixMyRust.com = good fit.

Wow. I would have called a tow truck dude with a slim-jim before breaking a window out. Easier and possibly cheaper.

Carpet alternative what do you use
91Pioneer replied to 88AMComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
rockauto.com sells vinyl floor covering, it's made by ACC mats. -
Is he from Toronto, eh?

The guy probably does not realize that the 91/92 Pioneer stripes were different. The only concern I have is I think he's showing stock Comanche pictures, not pictures of the actual stripe kit installed. But if you look at his other auctions you'll see there is no way he could have a photo of his decal kits for every vehicle, he has a huge variety of reproduction decals.

Does someone have the correct torque procedure for re-installing or installing new bearings (2WD)? I would kind of like to double-check my torque before replacing the bearings (re-torque, go for a drive and see if it feels any better before buying parts). I haven't got my repair manual yet. After looking over my setup more closely, the brake pads have lots of life left, the ridge on the end of the rotor is not bad at all, and the cotter pin looks almost new, so I'm wondering if the shop that replaced the brakes last did not properly torque the main nut down. There is a bit of a shimmy on braking and a slightly loose feel when driving. The ball joints feel OK to me which I originally thought was the problem, but now I'm thinking it's the bearings. p.s. Is there a download version of the '91 repair manual? I found the CD version on RockAuto/eBay so thinking I'll just buy that since it's a lot cheaper than the printed version. EDIT: Found answer:

It gets to -30 Celcius, sometimes colder.

All these classifications are confusing... and I'm a car guy. They would be completely meaningless to the average Joe. I did some searching online and now I really don't care what the manual says LOL. This graphic is amazing sauce!

What does the 1991 owners manual say exactly is the correct oil for the 4.0L engine? I bought Castrol 5W30 conventional today to do an oil change. I do not have an owners manual for my 91 but I do for my 88, and it calls for: "API Engine Oil Service Classification SF/CC. The term SF/CC must appear on the container singly or in conjuction with other designations. The SF designation alone is not sufficient." Well that was written 26 years ago so who knows if they still even have that designation on oils... anyway... So... the Castrol oil says on the back "API Service SN, SM, SL, SJ". So now I'm not sure I should use it. Yeah I know what you guys recommend (Rotella generally) but I'm interested in knowing what the owners manual calls for. I'm hoping someone has the manual and can check that for me. I know better than to post on BobsTheOilGuy ha ha. I'm not trying to start an oil debate. I have case of this stuff (12 quarts) so I'm hoping I can use it...

Ooooooh look what I found, if no one here has an OEM one I think I'll buy one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COBC9C/ or http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006302JU/ (generic Dorman knobs) p.s. not interested in putting and antler or grenade on there, trying to stay OEM.
-
So... my 91 has the column shift. The knob seems to be original but it's loose and I can see someone tried gluing it in the past. Long story short is it does not fit on all the way. I suspect maybe a little bit has broken off the end of it. So I'm wondering do you know of any models or places that sell similar new knobs? Ideally I want new OEM but I don't think that's an option. I was at the junkyard today and looked at some GM's, Dakotas, etc. but when I try to use my pliers on the knob to get it off, it basically just chews up the rubber, these things are cemented on. So I'm thinking new aftermarket is the way to go, and then I can glue or epoxy it on and never have to worry about it again.

 Nissans will be more reliable than a Jeep any day of the week.

Your thoughts on a 91 Pioneer for sale
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Long story short I bought this truck yesterday. Will obviously start a project thread when I start working on it. Immediate issue is fix the trans cooler line leak and sell my '88. -
The code is WD39... LOL... they couldn't use the code WD40 because of trademark infringement LOL

2wd/4wd ball joints the same?
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks. Would you consider selling those or are they part of your personal stash? p.s. It appears that that # changes up to same # with AB suffix: http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/products/BALL-JOINT-KIT-Right-or-Left-Knuckle-SOCKET-PACKAGE-/4432668/83500202AB.html I assume they would be identical parts... -
Thanks. Never seen so many MJs in a junkyard. In fact Bucks never has MJs. Lots of XJs go through there.
