  1. Won a set of these in a raffle and put them in the comanche. I'm pretty happy with them: https://www.quadratec.com/products/14254_7001_07.htm?gclid=CjwKCAiAsejRBRB3EiwAZft7sIf3I_K1tc5OsgfBZE1CvuAtayF0pM4ro7oPkC9Dv-G-7equlIhXNBoCg0MQAvD_BwE
  2. I used the original 8.8 plates from the JY for a while. I don't see how you could re-use the d35 plates, the diameter difference is too great. I ordered a set of plates from IronRock Offroad for the 8.8, love em.
  3. Welcome, and your grill is upside down (running joke on this forum). Don't be too scared, everything you could possibly think to do with the rig has been done or someone here has done something similar. Great group of helpful MJ owners.
  4. PS. I liked your video, though I'd recommend cutting down on talk time and focus more on the action. Talk over the work being done rather than a lengthy intro. I liked the editing!
  5. So where the bare/silver metal piece goes into the bottom of the black shifter handle post you can separate them as I described above. You can then slide the rubber boot upwards over the bare/silver square piece that is left easier. It's still a bit tight, but better than trying to go over the black handle. grease the handle to help it slide over too If you separate it, it should look like the photo below of my BA10 after I pulled it
  6. Oh, now I understand. To get the rubber boot off the shifter put the lower section in a vise then use a big screwdriver or prybar to lift upwards on the shifter handle. It'll work off then you can slide the boot off. I will say that it's still a tight fit and chances are 30 year old rubber will split... Good luck!
  7. $600 for TWO running MJs?! Definitely a steal. Interiors looks pretty decent and as I always tell my wife "Lipstick and Rouge" are the last things I worry about. Good luck with your builds, what cool father / son projects!
  8. IF you're up to the challenge (grinding, welding etc) a Ford 8.8 out of an explorer can be had with factory 4.10 gears, though they too can be tough to come across. They're supposed to be as strong as a D44 (debate may ensue) and are, in my opinion, more readily available than XJ axles. They would also give you disc brakes. I swapped in an 8.8 with 3.73s with an LSD and discs that I picked up for a pretty good price from a local JY.
  9. HAH, I ALWAYS tell my wife that when I list something for sale on CL I list it for twice what I want cause everyone always lowballs at half... Unless I think its unreasonable then I'll list it form 25% above what I want and tell them low-ball offers ignored. I've started using FB more than CL cause CL people are the worst... Not that FB is great, but people tend to be more responsive. I'd say about 15% of people I email or text on CL actually reply... it's about 40% on FB. I just don't get why people don't answer you if they want to sell it
  10. Holy smokes! 6K for a MJ with a bum engine and an XJ that's rotted through?? I tell ya here in the DMV area everyone thinks they have a gold mine and everything is worth double elsewhere. He'll be waiting a LONG time to get 6K for those two. My favorites on FB and CL are the guys who are like "4 33x12.5.15s 25% tread, will trade ONLY for 35 or 37s with 50% tread or more!" LOL
  11. I have deleted my Load Sensing valve and have a 255/75/17 (JK take off) ~32" tire under mine. I have to crank it up slightly off center to keep it away from the exhaust, but it BARELY fits. Oh, and I have an 8.8 rear with a 4.5" SOA lift that helps with clearance...
  12. 2.5 MJ, but looks to be a in great shape. Willing to throw in a 4.0L XJ as parts vehicle. No price listed so maybe it's OBO.... https://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/d/jeep-comanche-mj-xj-cherokee/6419179303.html
  13. Looks awesome, very well done tribute!
  14. Second this. I know there are others out there but I've never heard anyone bash Tom Woods. I've used 3 shafts from him and two SYEs. Ordered my shaft from him for my 4.5" lift with 8.8 rear on my MJ. Be sure to measure your flange pattern before ordering. SYE or not, just have your flange to output measurements ready.
  15. The one in my area that bugs me the most is there's some big carwash down south, and they literally put their license plate frame on every car that comes in. Seems like half the cars around here are advertising for them for free. I'm not a car wash guy, but if I was I'd NEVER go there. I often wonder if they even ask if they can put it on or just help themselves...
  16. Yep, I ran my 44 in my XJ with the factory slip for years before it gave out and I upgraded to a Detroit. With 4.56 gears.
  17. Easiest way is to mark the pinion flange with chalk against the housing and turn an axle and could how many revolutions the yoke makes on a full turn. 3.5 is 3.55 gears you get the idea.
  18. I've got a spare batter tie down laying around if this is this is what you're looking for. It's a bit beat up if you care. It's yours for the cost of shipping:
  19. i edited it down ans did a reverse image search but it didn't turn up. It was a shot in the dark but it would've been pretty cool if there was a hit from that on Facebook or similar and found the real Wendy.... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  20. Oh good to know. I've only ever had an 88, an 89 and a 99 so I missed out on that update. Does that mean that 91+ grills don't fit on 90- xj/mjs?
  21. This got me thinking. I've decided to name the MJ 'Belle' after Belle Starr, an old west thief whose husband was a Cherokee. I figure its fitting since she's robbed me blind and is related to a Cherokee... I'm thinking maybe 'Wilma' for the XJ after Wilma Mankiller, a Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Also fitting since my jeep tried to kill me and my buddy by rolling over us during a repair...
  22. Yeah, as a Navy brat, I'm very familiar with the naming of ships, though it's funny that of the current commissioned naval fleet only one (from a quick read through) has a womans name USS Gabrielle Giffords, though I would assume they all have informal feminine names.
  23. My girlfriend in HS named my first XJ Toby and since then I've just called them all Toby. My father-in-law, who is my Jeep partner in crime, says you can't name a truck with a boys name so I'm not sure what to call my current XJ and MJ. I called the 72 CJ-5 I sold earlier this year Ol Yeller cause it was yellow and old... ^^^ This one is my favorite so far
  24. Running yard waste to the dump last year... ps. Mind you this was BEFORE I put the tarp over it and strapped it down. Most fools around here don't cover their loads and the road leading to the landfill is a war zone of junk that escaped the truck bed...
  25. Appears to be... not the first I've seen someone make that mistake. Funny how they made the screw pattern reversible... if they had offset them top to bottom people wouldn't screw that up...
