  1. check
  2. At this point I'm assuming that the starter WAS getting juice. I'm not sure on the best way to check that to make sure. I tried to "jump" the starter but there was no room for a screwdriver in there to do it 'safely.'
  3. An AX-15 swap is not completely out of the equation. Wrangler guys swap them into their TJs frequently with a adapter kit. here's one using a Dodge Dakota 4 cylinder bellhousing. (uber rare bellhousing to find) http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=956031 here's a JP Mag article that uses the Advance Adapters kit for the swap. http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/ ... index.html Buddy of mine is thinking of doing this swap in his 97 2.5 TJ. If it where me, I would find a AX-15 married to a 231 and hit two birds with one stone.
  4. This was my question exactly. My folks would not even let me drive till I learned to drive a manual transmission. Just never know when you may need to drive someone elses vehicle (manual trans) for a medical emergency, practical jokes, etc.
  5. It has been said that replacing the steering stabilizer is putting a band aid on the problem. I would guess track bar bushings or tire/alignment issues.
  6. Yes I replaced both (2) relays with known good relays. I pulled the starter out last night. Aint too bad to do except for the dang torx bolts. Starters are on the cheap side for a 4 cylinder so I think I'm going to buy a ignition switch and a starter for it. I hope where I live they can test the starter I pulled to see if its bad first. t-case problems with the wheeling xj so this project will be on tempory hold till I get that done. Have a club Xmas ride on December 10. If it aint one thing its another. :fs2:

 I recognized it immediately as a '90, looks just like mine, only red. Immediately. Don't see how you missed it. What is all that white stuff? Cold here too. 58 when I got up,only going to be 75 today. Maybe winter has started. :clapping: Do you know what that thing mounted to the front of the truck is used for? :rotf: Just given you a hard time. My folks moved to Dade City for the winter. This will be their first winter down there. You guys can have the HOT. I like sunny and 30. The front end is identical to my 87 FWIW..
  9. See if what turns on? I have lights, horn, blower motor, everything but starter power. I'm going to try a different starter tonight.
  10. As stated in the first post its a 4 cylinder, manual transmission. Today I replaced all the relays, checked all fuses (none where related to the issue), and still got nothing. I couldnt get greasy cuz I was doing this right before I had to leave for turkey dinner. Plan is now to remove starter and bench test it. If it checks out good, I will replace the starter and then look to the ignition switch.. My 98 XJ trail rig has a bad NSS. I usually have to start it in neutral, sometimes it just don't start, I get mad and at it, then it starts. :dunno:
  11. I am not a wine person whatsoever. But the g/f's folks are wine crazies. Last thanksgiving I think they had riesling, don't know why I remember that... :hmm:

Strange things you find in vehicles... I originally was told this jeep was a 89. I pulled out the owners manual and warrenty information and both say 1989 on them but the numbers are crossed out and 1990 is hand written in their place. Guess I never even looked that close at the title. First 1990 to find its way to my yard :clapping:
  13. I'm going to replace the battery cables next. They are extremely crappy. The "brake" light on the message panel does light up when the key is on and the blower motor works. Also the dummy light on the cluster lights up when the key is turned. Gas gauge reads zero; right now I just want to get it to crank, then Ill work on getting it to start. I have not yet but will check for lights (headlights and such). One thing that I spaced was checking fuses and relays.. Got a list now to check tomorrow. Ignition switch a PITA to change? I remember a few years ago I had to have one replaced in a XJ. I lived in a apartment and it was January so I brought it in. Cost 170 bucks or something like that for labor for a relatively cheap part. For the life of me, I cannot remember what the jeep was doing to turn me on to a bad ignition switch. Thanks for the replies. I will have time in the morning to mess around again and Ill check back and report. Happy Thanksgiving fellas!
  14. This is on my new plow plow rig POS. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33041&p=326620#p326620 It a 90. 2.5/AX-5/231/D35 I cannot get this truck to do anything. Turn the key and I don't get anything. No clicks, grinds, nothing. Tried to jump starter from below but I cannot get a screw driver to the solenoid without having my face 10 inches away. Where do I start? don't know if it matters but; The dash panel that goes all the way across at knee height is dropped out. This could of been a clue to whats wrong, like the ignition switch or something. Or it could mean nothing.
  15. My 88 2wd has cracks on both bottom corners of the rear window. No wheeling with this one obviously.
  16. I know its a Cherokee.. Jeep has 185k, 4x4, saggy suspension. Wheels fit with the 245/75/16s with the Moabs w/o any lift. Slight rubbing, tires stay under flares.

I have a new winch in the garage. 1500lb superwinch for a ATV that would probably work just fine. Right now I'm hoping I can get the truck running, moving. Be next week before I have a chance to mess with it.

This fell into my lap the last couple days. Scrapping buddy of a buddy got this thing and was going to scrap it. its pays to tell everyone you know that you like comanches so when they come outa nowhere, they call ya. Even delivered to my yard... Ive had posession of it for almost an hour. My plans for it are to get it running and moving, fix the rear leaf spring, and use it! If the truck doesnt want to cooperate, I now am the proud owner of a MJ/XJ plow setup! Please enjoy the following pictures. 90/LWB/2.5/231
  22. I pulled one outa a XJ at the junkyard. The XJ was actually a 86. I put the wiper motor in my 88 Pioneer and now I don't have delay wipers anymore
  23. As a diesel pickup owner, I cringed everytime she said gas too....
  24. You comparing the first gen arb to the second gen? (older one or newer one?) Ill do some digging, I sold a older style arb once and I made sure I had all my info correct for the forsale ad.
  25. Uh... that's right, this is a family site. But that is also a great movie
