  1. My 91... The Jeep runs funny till the coolant temp gets to 210. I can take off down the highway and it constantly looses power causing a 'bucking' motion in the truck. When the truck is idling cold, it will act like its going to shut down but it usually doesnt just looses most of the RPMs and then revs back up. I have been driving it quite a bit, does it everytime. I also get a CEL when it starts jerking, loosing power on the highway. But once the rig warms up to full operating temp, shes runs great. :hmm: Any ideas? The only things I have done to it is change the oil and fuel filter. The cap and wires looks new'er'. Also, I don't have a 91+ owners manual to learn how to check out what the CEL means.. Anyone got any input for that?
  2. My 91 eliminator has a ashtray on the back of the center console. This would make me believe that all 'MJ' center consoles are just 'XJ' cousoles.
  3. I would go searching for chevy s-10 parts for the 2.8. Have better luck I would think then looking for MJ V6 parts.
  4. Welcome! I've got nothing to add here other than asking what the story is on the blue Chevy in the background. '67? '68? I'm kind of a sucker for that body style... Good looking MJ too! Oh geez... :hijack: ... already? Boy Ben you must study the heck out of the background of pics.... :rotf:
  5. Any ford 8.8 outa I believe a late 90s, early 00s. Look for one with disk brakes. I believe you could 3.73s, and 4.10s. Excellent choice for a rear axle. I'm in the process of swapping in a 98 (29 spline) 8.25 into my 88. I bought a 3" axle tube 'simple swap' kit from Ruff Stuff Specialites. Get u-bolts, spring pads, and shock mounts for around 120 bucks. Pretty cheap considering I can't touch a u-bolt around here for less then 25 bucks. I personally have not seen many D44 rears in MJs. I almost pissed myself when I seen my 'new' 91 had one when I was strapping it on the trailer. I have got a XJ one before. So thats a whole 2 that ive seen in the 10 years I been messing with Jeeps....23 XJs, 9 MJs. Please don't pay NO MORE then 200 dollars for one if you can find one. People think they are made of solid gold. I sold my XJ 44 for 150 bucks. They just aint worth anymore then that in the rear world. IMO, a 8.25 would be the best swap. You can find them from 50-150 dollars. Pertaining to wheeling, they are just as strong as a Dana 44, just not as much aftermarket support. I pounded the hell out of a 27 spline locked on 35s for a year, sold the jeep, its now on 33s and getting beat on and has never broke. Cannot say the same for the poor Dana 30 tho... If there is nothing wrong with your 35, leave it alone.
  6. 8 bolts. Four in front of the axle, 2 in the X member, 2 behind the rear axle. There is a plug to unplug the wiring for the tailights and such. I just pulled the fuel tank right out of the truck and carefully unbolted everything from the bottom of the box.
  7. Ya know.. Look in the owners manual for the Jeep. There is instructions in the manual on how to flat tow. If its still available..
  8. Poor comanche gets a scratch and maybe a bruise, taurus got its @$$ kicked.
  9. Got the new springs in the mail last week. But I couldnt really do nothing till I ordered spring perches for the donor 8.25. Quick run to Ruff Stuff site took care of that in the form of a 3" axle tube simple swap kit. Very nice kit; almost didnt want to weld on these fancy plates! This was extremely easy with the bed off! I carefully unbolted all the brake lines and such. Notice my awesome pink project admirring chair. I sit in that and drink beer and stare at my project. I have a green one too but the pink one is more comfy for some odd reason! Perches and shock mounts installed. Axle loaded in the Eliminator to be brought in for sand blasting later this week. Heading off on a vacation next week so there will be no forward progress for a bit. :( Next up is a new aluminum raditor, hoses, water pump, t-stat, and the conversion to an open cooling system. -boring stuff-
  10. I'm not much of a fan of this truck. Lots of plastic, hack CA drop brackets.... Looks gaudy with all the light covers and ridiculous body kit. Those body kits are for street Comanches! The only thing in my opinion that's cool is the fact it's a concept... I'll take a red and black chief with rollbars. (real steel ones)
  11. Trade you your old '91 for it? '91 for a '91... sounds good to me! Gladly trade a 89 HO..
  12. I plan to run these on my Wyomanche project. Gotta finish the bodywork and paint tho....
  13. Ahhhh no rust  I just did the title work today. Put some used shocks I had on the truck. I'm going to drive it for a few week to find all the bugs. Nice running little truck. I have considered cutting up my 89 LWB to fix this one already..... I don't know what I'm going to do..
  14. I also scored a set of comanche buckets with brackets for free at a Jeep Club members house on the way home. Hmm. Lots of new in my yard. But I got lots of time to think driving 12 hours aday at work.
  15. Yesterday I was bored at work. Thats not a good thing. I was looking around at craigslist at cummins trucks for a few hours. Then I figured Id take a look at the Comanches that where listed. Never a good thing....for me when I do not need another truck. Listing said "92 Jeep Comanche Eliminator $800" I immediately emailed the seller my number. I stared at my phone for 12 friggen hours waiting for it to ring. I figured if it didnt, it wasnt meant to be. Well low and behold the owner calls me. We chat for a bit and he tells me hes owned the truck for 10 years. Music to my ears. Make plans to head down (about 170-200 miles south) right away in the am. Like I dummy I went to update the software on the tuner in my tow rig last night. Something went goofy and I could not get the truck to shift past 4th gear. I thought I was screwed...shoulda been a sign. Woke up in the morning at 5am, hooked the trailer up, and the truck acted just fine. Perfect. Got to the sellers house right on squedule. I looked the truck over topside. It had been sitting for around 2 years I guess. In the back of my mind i kept thinking, this thing needs to be on my trailer. Its my holy grail. We agree on a price of 700 bones. Perfect. Fuel for the tow rig to go get the thing was paid for! I loaded the truck on the trailer. I went to strap it down and almost pissed myself when I see a Dana 44 staring at me from the rear of the truck. I strapped the truck to the trailer and paid the folks. I filled out the title, and I glanced up and see 91 on the title. I ran (sprinted) over to the truck to see "Build date 9-90" staring me in the face. I was pissed. I let them know it too. I didnt get too nasty just explained to them I drove 200 miles to buy a 92, not a 91. Then I had to explain the difference in the trucks. (or lack of)(understanding) Guy says he always told the mechanics that worked on the truck that it was a 92; since he bought it. Its still a Eliminator package H.O. MJ. Did I need it? Absolutely not! If I woulda seen "91 Comanche Eliminator" I woulda skipped right by and woulda been 700 dollars richer. Well enough story, here's the pics... The twins, This is 6 trucks in my yard. The 5YP NEEDS A NEW HOME FELLERS!

    death of the xj

Having both in my yard, a 2000 XJ and a 2004 Liberty, Ill take the XJ. Much more comforable vehicle and better mileage!
  17. :rotf: You amaze me!
  18. ... good quality frame for that matter. check. If you are going to do this project, do it right. Me and all others on the road will be safer.
  19. Did a bunch of powerwashing after I pulled the bed off. Some awesome welding skill I found Check out the heavy spatter! Wow! Pulled the drivers door, driver fender, header panel and radiator yesterday. No pics, you guys seen that before... I have some hinge work to do and I have to replace the drivers side fender. Will be going to open cooling system. On a side note, my Hell Creek springs shipped today!
  20. Looks like we are up to three so far?
  21. I don't see the point.... Make yourself a real trailer tongue with a quality coupler.
  22. Mine was 48 bucks last year and 24 this year... I have no idea how that works... I need to find a book that states all the laws in MN. This fall I'll be in the market for a gooseneck..
