  1. I have installed the e3 plugs in my new stroker motor, we'll see how they work out. A good point to mention is what heat range of plug they selected, my stroker might run better on the e3's because of heat of a higher compression. A stock high mileage might not. e3 plugs are an EXCELLENT design but without the proper heat range plug they are no better than stock.
  2. Have you bought a programmer yet? The computer can't just auto adjust if it doesn't know if upgrades have been added. I don't hate GM, they have the largest aftermarket and they are cheap to work on. I won't go there as to why. Maybe the spark knock was already there but not noticeable with the stock intake. First off buy a 3M fuel injection pressurized cleaning system, have a shop connect it and disable the fuel pump and run it off the pressurized can until the truck quits. Re-enable the fuel pump and buy some AMSOIL Pi fuel injection cleaner for two tanks of fuel back to back. This should clean the injectors the combustion chambers and the intake. Also check or replace the pcv valve. Then think about the programmer, you still need one.

  4. Aww, crap. That means a upgrade to the Dana 35 in in my near future. Any bets on when it's going to break? I wish Rymanrph was closer, I'd grab his 8.25 he had for sale.
  5. :rotfl2: That's exactly what I am talking about, if the person behind the counter isn't any more knowledgeable than you are you might as well order it blindly from the internet.
  6. I have a car cover for my Grand Prix GTP from Covercraft. I selected an outside cover that would keep the rain and tree sap off of it. It is suprisingly thin but it has reinforcements for the mirrors so it doesn't tear. It's made of a nylon like a tent so it came with a storage bag. I have washed it in the washing machine after removing it. I actually bought the cover for storage inside but I had a temporary house so I used it outside for a summer into early winter. It also came with a cable lock to string through under the car to lock it on so someone doesn't steal it. It fits PERFECT and doesn't move when the wind blows or storms hit. I would call them to see what they can offer you. Here is the information that can help you from their website: We have over 80,000 listings in our computerized pattern library and add new patterns every week. Check our database and, if the pattern is not currently listed or if the pattern is special, we’ll provide a dimension sheet which is easy to complete (our most popular dimension sheets can be downloaded from our website). The measurements your customer provides will be input in a CAD system that creates the custom pattern for the application. We can accommodate hoodscoops, roll bars, grille guards, winches.... you name it, we’ll custom make the pattern to fit any vehicle. On their website you can select the Comanche short bed with three different styles of mirrors but no roll bar. This you can call about or take some measurements for them. 7. I posted a reply that got my mind going... I am a fan of Advance Auto in my area. I have MANY to choose from in a 5 mile radius, Advance, AutoZone, Napa, 2 Car Quests, Auto Value, Circle Auto, ORileys, and I am sure I am forgetting someone. Now back to the rant, I have "tried" all the rest and I like to say that Advance has always been my top choice based on these things. Knowledgeable staff, save for two lazy "parts store part timers". Great selection of name brand trust worthy brands. Clean stocked store, there's nothing worse than buying a product and needing 1 more can, then a week later it's still out! This store keeps a great inventory. Sales, they always have my oil of choice on sale and other detail products. As for the filter I perfer the Bosh Distance they carry. I would like AMSOIL filters but only Belle Tire carries them. Now, I'm no novice when it comes to going to the parts store so I have not gotten screwed by the parts computer selecting the wrong part for my application. I do my research before I "CALL" first to see who has the part, which brand, and how pricey before I go waste my gas to go get the part. The internet is my trusted source for the right part, it takes some time to read through all the posts on forums such as this one but you get a part that will not let you down that way. Just wanted to share my thoughts about my local area, maybe it will help someone sometime in their situation.
  8. I don't know how many times I would like to work at a parts store just to serve the public. I perfer Advance Auto because of their selection of name brand parts, but there are two people I dread asking for parts or help because they aren't any! They are lazy and don't know squat. When they can't find it in their fancy computer they say "nope, don't have that, can't get it!" They are not resourcefull the least bit. It's nice to hear that some good samaratan spoke up and helped you out. It's those people who keep us going and I would humbly say I am one of them too. :)
  9. Those door panels look good. So why is it that they stopped making "Cool" interiors after '86 or so? I would hate to say this but the Ford Bronco 2 interior was very nice too around that time. Come to think of it, so was the Tempo. Glad to see you are keeping the old school stuff.
  10. Ok, after a few trips to Advance I finally found one that fit. Just an fyi for all of you if you have a renix alternator and A/C with a post 96 power steering pump you will need a 99 inch serpentine belt. Crazy long, and don't forget to nix the idler pully on the A/C bracket, it's only for the renix setup not the hybrid. If anyone would like some updated pictures just give me a shout.
  11. If it were me I would buy a SPAL fan controller and get two late model electric fans and put them on cascaded temperature settings. The nice thing about the SPAL is that it doesn't just turn the fan on and off it ramps it up a percentage depending on temp. The second one can turn on with the A/C if you have it. I would be worried about it being that close but it will work.
  12. Great job, love all the details and clean work.
  13. The truck is off to the Exhaust shop today. I forgot to run through the gears before moving the truck so the trans fluid is low so I had to throttle it to get it on the trailer. This morning I filled it up. Hopefully the shop will do a good job since I need 2 O2 sensors put in. I am getting a single 2-1/2" exhaust with a flowmaster series 40 muffler. Hopefully if all goes right today I can actually DRIVE it to get the new alignment since I installed the new control arms.
  14. I love the color combo, great looking truck.
  15. Great News!! The stroker motor is alive!! I tried to start it before I left for work last night and I knew it was not timed correctly. This bothered me all night so this morning after I got out I pulled the distributor and rechecked. Sure enough WAY off. I reset the timing and it fired right up instantly!! And the LONG awaited video of startup: I need to buy the correct belt size today and then get the front end put back together to test drive it. I will throw on my old exhaust for now until I can get a custom one made with the appropriate O2 sensor bungs. What 'cha think?

    Strange Hate.

Different trucks for different people, Cherokee better departure angle and shorter wheelbase gets you more places. The enclosed cargo area keeps stuff dry in the XJ. Comanche could haul your bed and your dresser home. My thought, why not have both? Have your cake and eat it!!
  17. I am close to getting the stroker motor going minus one thing. The old Renix serpentine belt is too short I believe. I used a '99 intake and power steering pump setup but I used the old Renix alternator and A/C delete bracket and pully. Do I need a belt from a newer 4.0L? ("97+ I would think.) Or do I need to measure and get a custom belt since I'm mixing parts? I have two idler pullys, A/C, Fan, Crank, P/S. Like this. Old setup:
  18. I bought the Novak shifter cable for my 242. The installation instructions are very good and the build quality is excellent. That said I have the same problem as you are having WITH the cable shifter installed!! I had the normal linkage in the Donor truck and I tossed it because I didn't want to mess with all the brackets and busings. After grinding gears and not finding the right ones I finally pulled the transfer case and inspected the internals. I found the shift fork pads were GONE and the range fork was chewed up beyond repair. I ordered a new range fork and pads from Morris 4x4 (which are awesome to deal with by the way) and I got it to shift great (manually) afterwards. The only problem I had was I coudn't get the selections to line up with the gate pattern. Also I can't seem to get the entire range of the selections to work properly, mainly if I adjust the cable jam nuts to their respective limits I can either have 2wd or 4low. I can't have both! I called Novak and they have never heard of that before. They wanted me to take pictures to send them to troubleshoot. They seem like they will fix my problem but as I see it the cable doesn't have enough travel for the 242. Either that or the cam that mountss to the shifter on the case is the wrong size. If it were shorter there could be more travel. I can give you an update on my situation and take pictures or video so you can get a heads up on the fix and your next possible purchase.
  19. Yeah but I don't trust mom and pop places and I don't want to be there long, coming off a midnight shift and all.
  20. If anyone has the ability to run a vin check and carfax report I would greatly appreciate it!! I am going to look at a Jeep tomorrow morning and I wanted to see if everything was in good condition since it's at a small used car dealership. Normally I wouldn't touch small mom and pop type places but I'll give it a try. Vin 1j4fj67s2vl577730 Thanks in advance!!

  25. I was torching rivits on a Durango ball joint and I was wearing my standard shirt and pants work wear and the guy watching me said "your shirt is on fire!" He kept repeating himself, I told him "if it bothers you then put it out", and kept working. :rotf:
