I find this is happening more & more. There is a reserve and it's not communicated. I did something similar & walked away from a reserve bid item & I was with-in a $100 of the reserve. They would not drop. I was asked after auction if I would still buy, mind you of the reserve price, and out of principle I said "NO". The owners ( family members) were shocked that I turned them down. I hope they learned a valuable lesson that day. Play games & you can lose!

Great stories. thanks for sharing!

I am in as well. NO BS. I have a very high need to get receiver hitch. If all else fails, I will modify a hitch made for a XJ. Cut of the mounting flanges & weld addition flat stock to mount that hitch to the side of the frame rails ( as needed). I would prefer not to go this route as it will be expensive ( buy the receiver hitch, then pay for modifications) Keep us informed & see what a minimum number of receivers are needed to get Reese or Draw-tite to make another production run. I actually need a hitch sooner than later. Thanks

Good point, anybody have a conversion. Since the part I need is specific to a column whit tilt & with automatic shift.

Well, like so many things the steering column is broke and the OE part is no longer made. I have a automatic vehicle, tile column with a column shift. The two main parts ( supports) that allow the column tilt, the lower one is damaged ( ears are broke off) I need this part. The original part was dodge part # 83504415. Unfortunately, this part is unique to a column shift, tilt column, from what I have learned. Anybody have this part, new or used? I was hoping to avoid the need to buy a complete steering column. Thanks

From Idiot Lights To Gauges
hassyfoto replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You may have to swap the individual gauge out (the one with the little gear indicator window) and put it into a cluster with the full gauges. Or, eBay a full cluster with gear indicator already in it (IIRC, there are a few from factory like that, but I'm sure they're rare). Edit: Found something that may be of use to you... http://comancheclub.com/topic/14086-upgrading-to-a-gauge-package-w-column-shifter/ Thanks -
Tsm Who Has It & Were To Buy From

Thanks everyone for the info. I have found several sets for sale on EBAIT. Many of the books are incomplete sets selling for over $100 & they are used. Sometimes the forum members have a resource that us newbies don't know about. Thanks -
Unless you already have the 401, you might consider building a 360. The 401 is difficult to obtain and as you already found out, expensive to build. A nice compromise would be a 360 street/strip build. Plenty of AMC 360 motors are available and there is a large supply of aftermarket items for the 360. P.S. I own a 70 Javelin with a 304-4bbl, automatic. I more than happy with the performance for cruising and attending local car shows. I have a 360 Engine sitting in the shadows waiting rebuild. I researched my options and eventually decided against a 390 build ( due to high costs) & realized that I could obtain almost the same objectives with the 360.

From Idiot Lights To Gauges
hassyfoto replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK, I have read the posts and find a have a few issues and questions; My MJ is a 91. I have a automatic on the column, therefore the dummy light cluster has the letters for verification of what gear you are in. I have looked at numerous 91 & up clusters with the gauges, but nothing with the letters to indicate the gear you are in in/on the cluster. So, is there an alternative? Or I just haven't tun across the correct vehicle yet.is Everything I have looked at has had the gear shifter in the center console. -
Just purchased a MJ and the rear bumper is a black step bumper. I know the original style rear bumper is no longer made or available. Soooooooooo, the question is, what is a good substitute? I would like something similar to the original, but I don't like the general diamond plate bumpers available, they look too much like a factory FORD bumper. Taking suggestions here on some alternative bumpers and who sells them. Thanks

Fiberglass is still porous, So, that allows moisture through and thus rust the hardware.

When you run out of things to write about, you grab for a long shot! As a serious AMC enthusiast, I am used to the constant doggery of AMC or Dodge products.

OK, since I am new to the forum ( still learning to navigate) and a 1st time owner of a Comanche, I want to ask if anyone sells a 1991 Technical Service Manual(s) for this year. I started looking on line and there are numerous books and prices. It seems there are CD's, 1000 page and 2500 page Service books. So which one is a copy from 91 dealer Service manual and who would be the best person/business to get it from. Thanks

New to the forum. Just bought a 91 Comanche (I6, 4x4, automatic). Based on the VIN it's a Pioneer. Bought from the original owner. Since this is my first Truck, I have a lot of questions and learning.
