Mopar / Chrysler or not ?
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for all of the responses . I guess the facts I can't get over is my factory original shocks lasted atleast 5 years with no issues ( they still rebounded when I swapped them out ) but these crap shocks are lucky to last a year or two ( completely stock drivetrain) . The shocks I removed had a plastic bellow and the whole shock was black and DIDNT have a Monroe P/N stamped on them iirc ,shouldn't that be what I recieve in the MOPAR boxes ? I mean I don't get a dayco / gates / Goodyear belt when I order a mopar belt . I know that there are parts that are outsourced and made for Chrysler but I'm feeling I should get the identical black shock and all , am I wrong ? I would gladly buy bilsteins / Ome , but this Xj is getting kind of rusty and it doesn't deserve the $400 shock treatment . I feel the originals would be a nice happy medium . -
Another anomoly ('86 MJ)
Strokermjcomanche replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Drill a hole in the outer unibody like all the other XJ's / Mjs have . Then loosen the bolt , pull it out till it touches the trans , cut the bolt in half so you can pull the whole bolt out , knock the welded nut off the unibody and bolt everything up with the newer Mjs fastening hardware . -
Mopar / Chrysler or not ?

After several sets of (Monroe and then Gabriel ) shocks going bad on my 99 xj in a short period of time I started looking for a better brand shock . I came across a listing for all 4 mopar shocks at the price of $100 + shipping , which I thought was a great deal . I just received them today and opened the sealed boxes to find out that they are the cheap ( blue) Monroe Matic shocks in the box . If I wanted Monroe I would have gone down to the local parts store and bought them there . So I know there are several people on here that either have or are currently working at a dealership, why or how can Chrysler pass these off as what came on the vehicle from the factory ? I've had the jeep since 36k miles and am positive they had a much better shock ( don't remember what brand though ) but I'm sure it wasn't Monroe . I've bought many mopar parts before and they've always been what the vehicle was born with .

WTB: cherokee running boards or ends . Ohio 44509
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in Wanted
Thanks Rob , that's very good info . The part numbers I've found are 82202702 , 82202703 , 82202704 , 82202705 , and 82202706 . The different numbers are because they were sold color- coded to your vehicle . I called the dealer and was told that they are (NS 1 )discontinued and NLA . I'm hoping someone has a new or used pair lying around . Thanks again . -

I will, now that I know they are mopar . Thanks Rob -
The space is for when you have a v belt 4.2 crank because the snout is longer and the harmonic balancer won't tighten , it's not required with serpentine cranks

I don't know if they are made by lund or are a mopar accessory , just that I seen them on a cherokee as I was sitting in traffic and could use them . -
Here is the style I'm looking for ( best pic I could find ) . I will either take the ends ( preferred) or the whole running boards . Thanks in advance .

88 swb 4.0 with metric ton rear leafs and 3 inches of lift up front . I'm staying SUA I purchased a 4.10 XJ 8.25 axle that I need to cut the spring perches off and weld the new ones on at the correct width and angle . I already have the new mopar perches too . Does anyone have a schematic or write up on this ? I have angle finders and a buddy with a 220 mig welder .Normally I would copy the axle that's already in the truck once I pulled it out but I would like to have this axle ready to bolt in and it will save time . Thanks in advance .

I guess the deluxe version is the one that has two wiper blades , vision is over rated . I don't see much Comanche parts left , it's more of a "monster" truck frame with an MJ body fabbed to fit it .

I'd buy it , depending on price .

Eewww . There are no new sending units being made by any known big name companies . Akula on here I believe made new units or you could have yours rebuilt but yours looks in bad shape . Maybe post a wanted ad for a good used one on here .. Another route is locating a fuel tank without the slosh pan and using the xj sending unit / pump . I haven't done this but I'm sure someone will give more info on all you'll need . -

You don't need to drop the tank to change the pump /sender , you can remove it from the side .
