Ashtray in a factory MJ console
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not referring to the block off plate for the emergency brake at all , nor am I referring to the short console either . Here is a picture of my original MJ console that doesn't have an ash tray . Although it has provisions for one , no one would be sitting behind the seats lighting one up .... -
Ok , help me out . This is one of those "just need to know" questions . Did anyones comanche come with an ashtray on the back of their console from the factory ? It would be nice to hear( actually is prefer to hear ) from some original owners as I want to exclude the possibility of the console ever being changed . I have three MJ consoles that DO NOT have ashtrays and I don't believe that Jeep / amc / Chrysler wanted you trying to reach back to put your cigarette out when there is a perfectly good ashtray in the lower dash panel right in front of you . I show different part numbers between the XJ/MJ in my parts books , but people are swearing up and down they have them from the factory.

Frame Rust Repair Suggestions
Strokermjcomanche replied to Jargon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you are planning to restore I would try to find a clean roller and build off of the clean frame . Depending on where you are at you may find a roller for a good price, paying someone to fix all that rust will cost a good amount of money . Once you have a clean frame / unibody and transfer all the parts from your rusted truck to the clean frame you could then sell the old frame to someone that wants to build a off-road rig and he'll probably have a welder etc and the rust won't be a bid deal for him to fix . -
I used auto transport direct , shipped my red MJ from Littleton Colorado to Youngstown Ohio for $634 , took about 4-5 days to get here . Yellaheep helped the guy load it , he was towing two other vehicles as well...

Aw4 shift solenoids
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I tried , but I had wiring issues (burnt harnesses ) and was unclear wether or not it was the wiring or solenoids creating the issues , guess it was the solenoids . I changed both of the main harnesses , but not the transmission harness because it didn't have any visual damage . The solenoids are extremely easy to change (one 10mm bolt per solenoid ) , and it sure makes my truck a whole new animal ( my butt dyno is happy lol ) . -

Aw4 shift solenoids
Strokermjcomanche replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Don , in my haste I didn't know they changed in 95 . In my searches for solenoids I seen that they were listed 87-01 but I should have known better. Looks like I may be going to the JY to grab some , the electrical connections are the same but they face the opposite direction preventing them from plugging in ... Nothing is easy anymore lol , thanks again. -
So I'm working on fixing my shifting issues on my (for all intense purposes) 95 Cherokee complete drivetrain in my 89 Comanche. My plan was to steal the shift solenoids from my (spare fully working ) 88 AW4 and install them in my Comanche to see if it solves the shifting problem. So when I was comparing the solenoids they look different ( they are both aisin solenoids) , is there a problem with me using the 88 solenoid? I've heard the aftermarket ones are garbage and mopar ones will run $4-500 and I feel I could get a nice complete low mileage trans for that . thanks for your help .

Reproduction Tail Light Assy'
Strokermjcomanche replied to mrmel2you's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've talked to several people about making tail lights (including Omix Ada ) and nothing ever comes out of it . A kid on the Facebook group said he's making them but it's been several months and I haven't seen any progress. I've even offered my new tails for reverse molds , if the new lights wouldn't see any damage. -
