1988 5.9L Magnum V8 Comanche
terrawombat replied to terrawombat's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thank you. Just wish I had a place to work on it where I live now. The truck is over 150 miles from me and I maybe touch it once a month, for about 10 minutes. Whenever I finally get a house and build a shop, I'll finish it up. -
I'll take it. About what I was going to drop on another '92MJ anyway...

Bright sealed beam headlights?
terrawombat replied to Eagle's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From the reviews I've read on various car enthusiast forums, the Putco harnesses come with cheap relays and so-so connectors at the bulb. It seems like the relays will eventually need to be replaced and the connectors can be altered a bit to work fine. I'll likely build my own harnesses and I'll post up the components I used when I do so. I'm down to my last brain cell, though, so I need to find that first before I do anything as I've heard that's another requirement of building harnesses. -
That's one of the nicest Typhoon's I've ever laid eyes on. What's been done under the hood?

If you ever do a cross country trek to get a diesel KJ, stop by my place and I'll sell you a set of Silverstars real cheap :D BTW, did you ever sell that KJ?

Bright sealed beam headlights?

I don't think the above has anything to do with age, but rather, personality. Now, to stay on topic so I don't get a spanking - I have had good AND bad results with Silverstars. I replaced a set of aging sealed beam headlamps on a 1991 Mitsubishi and the results were dramatic. My good experiences with the lamps had me put a set on my XJ (whose original lamps were only a few years old) and the results were less than thrilling. In fact, the title of this thread is what initially drew me in since I am also looking for something brighter and was hoping for suggestions other than Silverstars. Although the OP is not appreciative of the off-topic comments, I thank everyone who put in their two cents for the H4 conversion as I had not even thought about that and now have a good base to begin doing my research. -
I have an MJ with a set of Silverstars on it. One of these days I'll snap a pic of the MJ, XJ, and ZJ and it will be a Silverstar overload.

:hijack: I currently have a '99 Gunmetal Blue, but it was used as a 97+ donor for one of my MJ projects: Had a '99 Chilli Pepper Red. Probably the nicest XJ I've owned, but sold it to my GF's little sister and she later totaled it: Currently rock a '01 Silverstone Metallic. Nice color and easy to keep clean:

Those are not ZJ wheels. Something aftermarket.

Recommendations on radiators?!
terrawombat replied to Dirteatr717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I buy mine from Radiator Barn (http://www.radiatorbarn.com/). Competitive prices, free shipping, but best of all - METAL endtanks! Unfortunately, I don't see non-3 row all-metal radiators listed for Renix-era 4.0L's, but if you've already converted to the open system, then there is an all-metal 2 row radiator listed. -
*** COMANCHE CLUB shirts/hoodies order for 2011 ***
terrawombat replied to 87Warrior's topic in The Pub
I think if we took past T-Shirt/hoodie orders and determined the most popular styles/colors/sizes, then we could order up a specific quantity and have an inventory. Again, this requires someone to manage the project and have extra capital to put down the initial investment, but it does seem like there is a fairly regular need for CC gear. If I didn't have such a nasty taste in my mouth from the last t-shirt/hoodie deal that I did, I would consider doing it. Although the folks here on CC appear to be a little more mature/sane than the online gamers I was dealing with in the past. -

LoL, good answer. I was the point-man for a hoodie/t-shirt/hat sale for a small online gaming club I'm involved with just to do something fun and different. As you have found out, it basically comes down to a one-and-done type of thing. I recall there being roughly 35 clothing orders when I ran mine and it was an absolute nightmare with the biggest problem being the amount of color choices that I offered - it was difficult to keep everything straight. The straw that really broke the camel's back was after everything was shipped out, I had people coming back to me and complaining that something didn't fit or the color was a little off than what they thought it was. I had two people that wanted my address because they wanted to return the shirt for a full refund. I could only laugh at that point and shake my head. What am I, Macy's? I don't really play the game much anymore, but I still get a random e-mail now and again asking if I'm going to make another t-shirt run. Yea, ok... -

Medium fern green pearlcoat. The 97+ XJs had a couple of nice color options. I was always partial to their "blues," particularly the patriot blue and the gunmetal blue.

Yea, I moved down to MD in September and started a new job the day after Labor day. Looking to buy a house and build a shop ASAP. Obviously, the shop will be a little smaller than the one I previously had :D

The bench seats can be pretty darn comfy if they're not all worn out and the perimeter wire support isn't snapped/broken. I've got over 230K miles on the bench in my '92MJ and you REALLY sink down in that thing, but the one that came out of my '88 SporTruck is comfy as can be (105K miles on it). One of these days, I'll swap out the lower foam between the two. Bench seats are also ideal for people that have a high rate of canine companion travel.

Doesn't look like it'll take much to get that back to a good, sell-able state. Tires also look like they've got a lot of meat left on them. Only downside I see is the mileage. That is roughly the same mileage on my '01XJ and it's beginning to show its age - loose steering, loose suspension and random creaks and rattles throughout the interior. Basically need to replace every ball joint and tie rod on the front end, replace control arm bushings, and change out the shocks. Hopefully a lot of that stuff has already been done on the one you just picked up. Also, you could probably swap in a stock airbox and sell the K&N FIPK to some idiot for a good chunk of change.

Tyler? That you? Truck looks pretty good. Best of luck with the clutch issues - wish I could help you out, but I live kinda far away now...

Cash from my folks (to be used as a down payment on my new house) and a 106 metric & US tap and die set. Got a couple of hoodies from my GF, which I desperately needed since I completely ruined my other ones working in my shop last winter. Should also be getting my CC hoodie sometime next year to add to the collection. Brothers got me a gift card to home depot (also for my new house) and a nice bottle of tequilla.

Another '99 2dr...the official DD

I love the look of the Ravine rim (have them on my '92 MJ), but they don't look quite right on a 2-door XJ. I'm thinking if there was a bigger tire and a little bit of a lift (2" or so), they'd look perfect, but given the intent of this XJ, that would defeat the purpose. Love the color choice, though! -
I had a couple of legal beers at the local college bar. It was exam time for me, too, so I couldn't really go out, nor could my friends. Now, my 22nd b-day...I spent that one in Vegas and don't remember much. I've never really understood the people that get so insanely sloshed on their 21st. Chances are they have been drinking well before their 21st and most likely have a fake ID and have been in some bars in the past. At least that was the case for me, so it just seemed like another day in the office. So, if you have a driver or are within walking distance of a bar, I'd say have couple drinks, have some fun and think of all the things you're now allowed to do with this age milestone. Can you believe that people born in 1991 can legally drink? I'm getting old...

It should be pretty easy to retrofit the RKE module assuming everything else stayed the same. Best bet would be to find a '99 or newer XJ in the JY, steal the overhead console and the wiring that goes to the passenger side fuse panel. Remotes can be found on e-bay for $15-20 a piece and any ChryCo dealership can reprogram the remotes for you - for a fee, of course.
