Project AMC-V8 / 5spd / AMC-20 MJ . . .
Comanche County replied to AMC-MJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
When I cut my lower control mounts off and drilled holes through the frame rail to mount long arm brackets, I was amazed at the thickness of the frame rail. I was thinking about plating them but now I'm not worried about it. They're over 3/8" thick in places. -
Nice work!

I'll bet $100 on red --- (just needs a spring in the hose, you could make one if you had to - anything to keep the hose from collapsing) But I'll bet $5,000 on black --- (you're radiator is clogged and a new one will fix it) Let me know if I win! :D

This guy was looking for one of those air dams: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25120&p=257077&hilit=air+dam#p257077

I'm fanatical about keeping receipts of items bought for the Manche. They're all in an envelope that's about 3" thick now. I do it to keep track of what I spend ---- but now I'm too scared to tally it up to see what the damage is. I don't want to know.

I've really sort of stumbled on everything I've put on the truck. I bought stuff for it as I found it if I thought it was worth it. But in retrospect I'll be more patient on the next one and build it with a clear set of goals. Only thing I'm scared of breaking on this one is the 1310 u-joints yokes on the rear driveshaft. With the ARB up front I think I could disengage it when required and save the front. Of course there's a part of me that wants to upgrade to 37's anyway. -

IIRC I payed $900 for it. Its a Dynatrac HP44 that had chrome-moly shafts, 4.56 Yukon gears, and an ARB. It also came with the original invoice from Dynatrac. I thought that was a good deal. Now I'm not so sure because the ARB was broken :headpop: so I bought a new one for it, I also went with a new gear set. In the end, I payed 900 for a bolt in HP44 housing and the chrome shafts...not such a great deal. But still a lot cheaper than a new Dynatrac 44. I probably should have gone to full width axles at the beginning. I'm starting to think about my next MJ, I like the idea of "tons" with 37s-39s and minimal or no lift and a lot of fender trimming. Sorta like an MJ (cheaper) version of that Mopar underground Wrangler with 40's and no lift. -
Exactly right, Great Stuff absorbs moisture and retains it. I learned that the hard way on a couple of in-shore fishing boats I rebuilt a few years ago. I can't recall the name of the stuff I'm thinking of but there are several products for the marine industry that will expand enough to completely take up the space and keep water out. Despite what the label says it's not a good waterproofing solution. Look for stuff made to pour into boat hulls if that's what you want to do.

Yeah it is a Jungle gym for sure. You're thinking the same thing I am...its on the to-do list. -
I'm interested. Maybe something with an MJ, Comanche or Jeep logo on it. What about a micro picture of an MJ driving over a Prius? :D
-
That is one nice MJ!

Thanks for the correction,,,I meant "Alpine" crawler, sorry bout that... Huh? I'm a sort of a :dunce: on iPhone stuff, this is my first Apple product. I was a dedicated Palm user for many years, had a 600, a 750, then the Pro. I got the Treo Pro because of the Microsoft Mobile software so I could view/amend Microsoft Office documents and ppts. But it would stall and hang up when using office and would stop functioning when I'd get on the web with it. It got to where I had to do a soft reset every other day. Sorta like an old Windows 98/95 PC. This iPhone 4 seems like its generations ahead in user interface and system stability. Its so much faster that there's no comparison. I especially like the digital compass and how the screen automatically switches from portrait to landscape view when you tilt it. It must have a little gyro or something like that in it. I also like how it detects available wifi networks and saves battery time. So far the battery hasn't gone below 75% even after not charging for a day and a half. I'm thinking of switching from PC to Mac now! What is a MAC address you're referring to?

I believe that's the drink with a human toe in it. Mmmmm!

Just use the search term "jeep" at the iPhone app store link.

Dude, you've got to check out the Chatanika Lodge. I loved that road house, it's about 30 miles north of Fairbanks on the Cleary HWY, very cool. Also you've gotta check out an awesome joint called the Howling Dog in a little town called Fox, again just north of Fairbanks.

I've driven the ALCAN twice all the way and twice partially. I've had to ship firearms before crossing the border...IIRC shotguns are ok, rifles and handguns aren't. My kitted up SKS was not ok. Canada is absolutely beautiful, no better road trip on earth. My two partial trips we took the ferry that runs from BC to Haines, AK. It's the best poor man's cruise going. Made the trip to Deadhorse from Fairbanks for a Caribou hunt... You can't rifle hunt anywhere along the Dalton highway within a 5 mile corridor or use a motorized vehicle of any sort to get beyond the five mile corridor. So a buddy and me drove up just south of Deadhorse from Ft Wainwright, we get there and it's dark of course, we snowshoe out five miles and pitch a tent, roll up in arctic bags and wait for light to come. It was 35 below and we must have been absolutely nuts (I was a little younger then). We were thinking we were going to wake up in a giant herd herd of arctic meat beasts...and the only thing we saw in the morning was absolute pure tundra nothingness! Just a vast and eerily silent pure white wasteland and not a caribou track in sight. Needless to say we were a bit frozen and discouraged for the 5 mile trek back to the XJ.

I'm posting this from my new iPhone 4. Because...I was messing with the tie rod and drag link after getting it aligned trying to adjust the steering wheel straight and I placed my lucky Oakley ballistic protective sunglasses (which survived a year of patrols in Iraq) and my Palm Treo Pro smart phone on the front bumper. Of course I tore out on the highway to see if I had the steering wheel straight and left them on the bumper. The next morning I found my lucky sunglasses on the bumper and the remaining pieces of my smart phone scattered on the shoulder of the highway at my turn around point. So I got me a brand new phone now, but lost two years worth of saved phone numbers. Crap! I should have synched it with laptop like I kept telling myself but kept putting it off. Anyways, the first app I put on the new iPhone is called "mountain crawler". It's got a LWB MJ in Wagoneer style trim that you can jump and flip like that flash game posted a while back. A must have app for MJ lovers.

Thanks for posting that tech site.

I'm holding out for an original hard top, but I really like the soft tops too. It's a good reason to get another MJ and have both if ya ask me.

Do you prefer a body colored tailgate handle on your MJ?
Comanche County replied to fiatslug87's topic in The Pub
Yes, Black, and it must work,,,and not be dented up like mine - which only halfway works. -
Never heard of one. :dunno:
