KJ renegade Lightbar on an MJ
Comanche County replied to Dirteatr717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Anyone who puts a Renegade light bar on their MJ is cool in my book. -
Not too bad, but yeah, they are a little loud,,,but they're such a great improvement over my Creepy Crawlers that I'm happy with them. I think I'm on Can 3 now.....haha. Thanks man, I love the south, although you can tell just by driving through that some of the towns down here have been hit pretty hard in the wallet over the last few years. Meridian seems like one of them. I like Birmingham, AL,,,,,if I could live anywhere in AL or the Deep SE, it think it would be there - second to Savannah of course. That is if I couldn't afford a place on Mobile Bay, Destin, or anywhere on the FL west coast......FL east coast - forget about it,,,,way too poor to live there. It was a good trip overall,,,, Gas - somewhere around 200 bucks Hotel rooms - $0 slept in the cramped MJ cab and it was 18 freakin degrees outside in a Birmingham Walmart parking lot. Alternator - $106 bucks Multiple bags of Funions - around 5 bucks Making it across the country with presents in hand for my daughters 10th birthday - PRICELESS!

Yup, if you can't afford an SRT, then get a 5.9, it can be built just as fast or faster and cheaper than a Hemi....although the Magnum eventually maxes out due to inherit design characteristics - unless you've got the money.... http://www.hughesengines.com/TechArticl ... ticles.php Hate to beat on a dead horse but I will anyway,,,,the C4C was a crock - he could have driven the 5.9 for the rest of his life and not polluted as much as it takes to build just one hybrid in a factory. I have to subscribe to Seasick Steve's philosophy.....he starts talkin about cars later in the video.... sorry bro :hijack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjZJPDD8iiA

T-Case and Driveshaft ???
Comanche County replied to vhenem's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When I first did my SOA, I added a Ford 8.8. I simply used the stock 4x4 drive shaft with the stock ford 8.8 flange and a 1330/1310 conversion U-joint. It worked in my case. I eventually did have a custom length shaft made when I added a different 231 with a SYE. If you don't have a SYE on your TC, then there may be enough slip in you stock drive shaft. I'd do the drive shaft last, it may work for you after all if you're not modifying or swapping the rear axle. Edit: Check your pinion angle and ensure your drive shaft alignment and u-joint angles are correct or you'll go through U-joints fairly quickly. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/driveshafts.htm http://www.jeepfan.com/tech/tech_driveangles.htm http://www.dirtroad.com/articleb.htm -
I need new leaf springs, right?

You've got a good looking truck dude. -
Whoever traded in a 5.9 in the C4C program should be shot, multiple times by various high caliber weapons...

I'm game for that, count me in! We need to make an "Official MJs across America" thread with pics of MJs in iconic locations around the country. Needs to have pics like an MJ at the Statue of Liberty, on top of Pike's Peak, under the St. Louis Arch, on Golden Gate Bridge - at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth (yee haw)...you get the point. I intended to take some cool pics of my MJ at the different State lines and then on the bridge over the Mississippi and get it started, but it didn't happen. I prefer to drive at night, less traffic and I blew through the state lines without even noticing. Plus after the pic at the Horseshoe, I realized night pics with the Iphone is a waste of time. Here's the few I did snap and they're pretty lame: Leaving my beloved Comanche County: At the Horseshoe in Shreveport: Replacing the Alternator in Meridian, MS:

No not a dawg fan, love the almighty Savannah Sand Gnats though. I like TX A&M, the mighty Horned Frogs and the Red Raiders. I'll be bouncing between A-town. Columbus and Savannah....I'll send you a pm. . Yeah and my stinkin dad stole my official O'briens Tshirt too.
-
That stinks, they should have made it right with you by giving you a refund or at least made some kind of effort.
-
I made it - at least to my intermediate objective Atlanta to do some holiday shopping. I spoke too soon about breaking down. The alternator went out. The volt meter was reading about 9v but I managed to get an hour further down the road to Meridian, MS. The yellow top optima really payed off. I think a lesser battery would have died after an hour of driving with headlights on and 600w on two 10" subs cranking. I picked up a new alternator at O'reilly's ($106) right when they opened at 7:30 this morning made a swift parking lot repair and was back on I20 by 8:30. Mule13, I'm moving back to GA. I'm leaving the MJ here, flying back after Christmas and then driving the ZJ from TX.
-
Roger that - Done! This is actually the Manche's second trip from TX to GA although this one will/should be one way. It's never left me stranded, ever, except when I ran it out of gas a few times in CO back in 08' when we couldn't sell our old house and were paying for two and I couldn't afford $4.00 gas. Little problems have popped up but they've always happened in the driveway so it's been good to me. I'd drive it to Alaska without worry, knock on my faux woodgrain instrument bezel I'll make it to GA ok. I still have to get by the casinos in Jackson and Vicksburg. The Horseshoe in Shreveport just took $200 from me, but I won it back plus $60...then I got the heck out of there!
-
It's 1005 miles to Savannah, I've got a full tank of gas, half a can of Copenhagen, it's almost dark, my sunglasses are too scratched to wear at night, I'm hitting it! Making the I20 ride in the Manche, wish me luck.

I love that truck. I hope they can beat the Chevy guys. But any speed over 80 or so scares me, I don't think I could run on the flats, I'm too chicken. I did get my 84' Honda V65 up to 140 a long time ago, I was 19 or 20 when I did that,,,,and that won't ever happening again!
-
I got almost 90K out of a set of 30x9.5s BFG ATs. Great street tire with a little extra traction for occasional trails. ATs are actually cheaper since you'll get more miles out of them.
-
I bet you'd sell at least five of them through here. Should be great in northern areas. Having lived in Alaska, I'd want one if I was back up there to keep cargo out of the elements. Plus, its tough to find a proper MJ topper.
-
Yes, it will work for all MJs. What we really need is input from someone who has done the swap with later XJ boosters and the WJ booster on an MJ or early XJ to receive balanced feedback and can accurately compare the two. I believe the consensus is that the WJ booster is a technical upgrade, whether the difference in braking power is noticeable or not. The 95-96 XJ booster may work just as well. If your running larger tires than stock, I think you'd be better off with the WJ booster. But if you've got an available 95-96 XJ (or ZJ) booster then go for it.
-
How big or long is the crack and where is it? Is it repairable? Might want to check with a good engine builder, maybe it can be fixed if you can't find one. I bet there's an old lady with a low mileage Renix XJ in her garage somewhere close to you....found one here a few months ago. An 89' Limited with only 40k on it....should have bought it but I had too many jeeps at the time.
-
Nice but I'd prefer the soft topper myself,,,,more rustic/military looking.
-
5.9s with that mileage are going for 4-5K on ebay. You stole it friend. I've had two Niners, still DD a Deep Slate 5.9 and like the MJ, I doubt I'll ever sell it. Fastest SUV made until the SRT8 came along. Here's some good tech articles from Kevin's...http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/cart/index ... =page&id=5 Here's the Motortrend review from way back: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/112 ... uscle.html "As the stoplight flashes to green at a late-night intersection circa 1969, a herd of leaded-fuel-slurping ponycars is about to experience the might of muscle-bound luxo/utes. Emerging from our fantasy time machine onto Woodward Ave., the bravado-emanating Grand Cherokee could casually choose its prey. Sidling up next to a '68 Camaro SS 396 at a stoplight, it would be hard to convince the other driver that you are serious about racing. After all, how fast could a truck really be? As the 325-horsepower Camaro spins its 14-inch wheels fruitlessly, the Grand Cherokee is well on its way to reaching 60 mph a full second ahead of the 7.8-second big-block GM ponycar. Attracting the attention of other ponycars, a '65 Shelby GT-350, '67 Barracuda 340, '68 Pontiac Firebird 400, and '69 Mustang Mach 1 bravely take on the high-tech challenger, only to be sent whinnying back to their garages. It would take an extraordinary car indeed to tromp the Grand Cherokee-a '70 Hemi 'Cuda (5.8 seconds), '70 Mustang Boss 429 (5.3 seconds), or a '67 Corvette 427 (5.6 seconds). Losing to a high-compromise, race-intended musclecar brings no shame to a sport/utility, after all, how good are those coupes off-road?"

They look awesome.

This is the only booster swap I've done. I can't speak for the the 95'-96' XJ/ZJ boosters, but from what I've researched, the WJ boosters offer slightly better braking power. However, the later XJ boosters are also an easier install. Having owned 3x 96 XJs, I can say that now my MJ with 35s stops almost as well as a stock 96 XJ. How do you rate the stopping power compared to the older MJ/XJ boosters? I have to give mad props to you my Jeepin friend for all the work you've put on here....would you recommend the 95-96 XJ boosters over the WJ? Just wondering?
