Bench Seat Options
Comanche County replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How tall are you Mnky? I'm 6'2" and I love the added leg room my worn out and sagging MJ bench offers over the buckets. How is the legroom with those seats compared to MJ buckets or an MJ bench? And you can still throw a little tyke in the center right, it has a belt, he's 8 yrs old btw so he should fit. Also, seems like a Dakota seat may be too wide, how's the fit on the sides? Thanks! Bench Seat Options

Yeah I was searching for "bench seat", a search for "Dakota seats" found it. http://comancheclub.com/topic/34228-ranger-6040-bench-seat-installed/ What year Dakota has this seat? That's what I was thinking of. -
Don't think so, maybe a Fey bumper.

The main problem with V8s in Jeeps is that most of them are Chevys. :laughin: -
I'll gladly pull them for you if you'll pay shipping or come and pick them up, you're not that far away. The door panels are still in great shape too. I also carefully placed all the interior trim in the bed. The dash had a few cracks but the rest of it was in pretty good shape.

I know we've covered this before but I'm bringing it back. Just looking for ideas on what kind of bench seats work in the MJ. I just removed my buckets so I could fit two munchkins in the MJ and now I'm missing my center console storage and arm rest. Plus, I've got a gray interior and a god awful tan bench, aghhh. Here's some pics of Dakota and S-10 seats. Wondering what other possibilities are out there. I'd like headrests, some storage, drink holders are nice, but it must seat an adult driver and two little ones. I don't care about ease of install, I'll fab something up using MJ brackets. Here's a Dakota seat, forgot the year. Its just sitting there so I may grab it anyway since it almost matches the MJ's gray and has a pull down arm rest. Another Dakota seat but it has no console. A pretty awesome S-10 bench. Has the arm rest and integrated drink holder and storage compartment, as well as headrests.

The aggravating thing is that I had my dash and entire interior out of the MJ a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm going to have to do it all again to get the new fuse box in. Might as well do a 97' conversion with all the work on the inside I've done.

Embrace fuel injection, its much easier to diagnose than keeping a carburetor in tune with your performance mindset. You'll always be disappointed. Read the LungHD article thoroughly, he did the all homework for you. Just copy, sign your name and get an "A". Or save up a couple hundred bucks and get a wrecked XJ donor and swap everything over. -
Get underneath it with a pry bar or something similar and see if there's movement in the rear u-joint. Does it still do it if you shift into neutral at the same speed?

It took two days but this ole gal gave up everything she had to offer. Except the rear slider, blue B pillar trim and bench. I may go get the slider but I was scared of breaking it and my box cutter blade was too dull for the job. Took the rear chrome bumper, headliner, gas tank, sending unit, rear flares and tail lights on day one. Day two, took the fuse box and interior wire harness which was a pain, but worth it since it was an automatic and the fuse box was pristine, the ignition switch and E brake assembly. The tailgate is banged all to Hades and back, so I left it. I'm kinda proud of the bumper.... :brows: Also picked up a couple of Turbines and two sets of WJ Calipers and rotors,,,,about to do the WJ brake upgrade.

When I lived in Morrison, CO, I was terrified of a fire, the whole area is a tinder box. Wildland fire is very, very serious. Btw, get many pronghorns around your place Jim?

Those 235s sound like a pretty good tire for your needs. I'd get them siped first, most tire shops can do it, or you can do it by hand yourself. If you're still uncomfortable, then get em studded. No matter what tire you have, its still the driver's skill and prudence that prevents wrecks and spin outs. A good guitar player can play any guitar, a good pool shooter can use any cue, etc. Sorry if that sounded cheesy.

That loose terminal will cause the solenoid to fail soon, might as well rebuild it or get a new starter. -
Front & Rear Bumper Bars

Look in the MJ of the Month sticky, there's lots of good examples of bolt on aftermarket bumpers as well as custom made stuff. Lots of good ideas there. Mine is from JCR Offroad. -
Check the windshield seal for leaks, when it rains mine pours.

Why are the rear tires not centered in the wheel wells? Something looks weird there. With the rust I just don't see 4K. No offense intended sir.

Thanks for sharing Rob! Keep em coming! -
Glad I could assist. Let me know if you need more pics. My friend is the Marketing Director there and I can get more anytime if you need something specific. I have no idea if its a true to original restore. I'd doubt there's any un-restored examples left to base it on.

Here's page 83 of my 89' owner's manual. Just use GL5. However there's been a lot of advancements in gear oil since our trucks were new. Most oils already contain the additive needed. Chances are, if you have a LSD, the clutch packs could be slipping anyway. Just go with a 90w, unless you tow a lot, then go with 140w. I prefer synthetic. But it probably doesn't matter. Don't fret the RTV, a good ole cork gasket and just about any RTV will be just fine as long as its compatible with the oil.

I have a 258 crank sitting in my living room, waiting for the day it spins pistons again. Just one of my many projects waiting to be done.
