You need to keep one of these around...Got this front end waiting in the backyard for a future wrecked ZJ build.... This is a pic of my DD which I got wrecked at 155K a few years ago, now its got 245K....Not too hard to patch up actually.

This one was practically free though :). Been doing a little bit of work lately... Cruiser's valve cover mod. Seems to be working so far. I did clean it up a little better before I installed it. I swear it hasn't been off since new. There were some small carbon deposits on the rockers under the two grommets but it wasn't bad at all. Everything looked good. Almost got the grey column in before it got dark.

Couple Xj -> Mj Parts Compatibility ?'s
Comanche County replied to HughMann's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't forget the window seals also, all the way around the glass, they're much better on the 97+, but they don't have quarter windows. But I'm pretty sure the rear door seals (the vertical seals on the back of the back windows) will fit on the front of the front door glass. Does that make sense? -
Been looking for one myself. I've never found or seen one. I know of a guy that used modified XJ pedals and a NV4500 behind a 5.9 ZJ.

That's a long trip from McAllen though. You could almost hit every ORV park in TX on the way up there. There are several around Austin and Marble Falls. Katemcy isn't too far from there either. I'd do the Austin thing, I'd definitely visit Fredricksburg, LBJ state park, and Enchanted Rock if you haven't been there before. Spend some travel time on the Blue Bonnet highway, it'll be pretty in May. Also, Colorado Bend State Park is a hidden gem too. There's not a heck of a lot between Abiline/I20 and Amarillo, except Lubbock (in case you're a Red Raider fan), PK Lake (Possum Kingdom) is a little out of the way but it might be worth a stopover, they've got a nice park there and clear water for scuba diving. http://www.find-off-road-trails.com/texas-trails.html http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/ohv/ride.phtml http://www.texasoffroad.net/forum/ubbthreads.php/category/5/Offroad_Parks_ORAs_4x4_ATV_Dir

Sorry guys, you're all wrong. A factory right hand drive MJ....that's what I want to see. :brows: They made plenty of RHD XJs, what about MJs?

Thanks, did a little work on it today. Cleaned the TB and set the TPS and idle. Seems to run a bit better. Also swapped the LCAs...the flex joints were just a little too worn so I got a pair of Zone Offroad lowers from a local club member, Found a few little parts for it. I may go back and get the spare tire holder. Its got a key lock lug nut on the tire but I think I can chisel it off or use an extractor. Few more easy grabs, and possibly one of the last remaining undamaged fan shrouds left in N. America. :) The carpet is fairly clean, the cargo mat almost makes it look worse.

Last two days I pulled a set of 3/4 ton axles from a 77.5' F250. An HP D44/D60 combo with open carriers, .10" gears. I'm debating saving them for my MJ or throwing them under this XJ...wasn't really planning on going this route with the XJ but these were "get em when you see em" items in the JY, so I got em. Not sure what I'll do with em yet. Three of the four 315 AT KOs still hold air too.

No Brake Lights Or Turn Signals

I hate electrical stuff...I'm gonna crash tonight, then I'll wake up and flail myself a few times and see what I find. -
No Brake Lights Or Turn Signals
Comanche County replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
its a Renix,,, No Don, I didn't know that,,,,how can I fix it though? This has really got me perplexed and I don't mind admitting it. The trailer wire harness seems fine. All bulbs are okay, -
Chrysler called it quits with the Comanche and later the Cherokee killing off what so many people are still bitter about. Our final huzzah from Jeep was created when AMC still owned the name forcing others to think that Chrysler is really to blame for today's "Jeeps". AMC had some fantastic engineers that tried driving the company to success that Chrysler later bought up. Jeep has to conform to modern standards to keep other models available leaving them no choice but to start producing SUVs on car platforms. Car platforms have shown still somewhat capable with today's Jeeps. 3. When did AMC engineer anything? The truth is that they limped along producing marginal products by modifying the basic products that were in place when they purchased Jeep from Kaiser. The FSJ line, including the pick-ups, and the universal line remained virtually unchanged beyond mods necessary to adapt existing AMC engines into them. And frankly most years under AMC, including the de facto Renault ownership years, saw the Jeep line become ever more poor in terms of quality and reliability and neither were that high to begin with. #3. Is a very poorly thought out, if thought out at all statement. To think all the great minds of Hudson, Nash, Studebaker etc were a bunch of morons who couldn't design a car. No, they were very in tune with the market and at the top of their engineering game. For example, the 50' Studebaker Champion had more bells and whistles than a 97' XJ. It's not the engineers fault that the market turned on them...they produced some kickass rides from Jeeps to the Javelin. AMC cars were and still are $#!& hot. The XJ that they concocted was a modern marvel, it was the sole reason Chrysler bought AMC,,,for the Jeep brand and specifically the Jeep Cherokee....the XJ was a money flow cash cow for Chrysler. Dodge used that same basic 4/5 link design that came from the XJ for dodge trucks for the next what 15 years? How in the hell can you say AMC engineers didn't design anything worthwhile.....You don't know basic automotive history...Did you work for AMC during the 60s, 70s, 80s? I doubt it.... Don't knock the hard earned achievements of those people who toiled for an automotive maker who really did make a historical impact on Jeepdom and offroad history. Guess next you'll be bashing SAAB?

I've searched. I've replaced the flashers, tested bulbs, replaced the turn signal switch in the column also. I've freshened the grounds. The taillights (both bulbs- brakes and signal bulbs) work with the head lights on, but the turn signal lights don't flash. The hazard lights don't work unless the headlight switch is pulled then they flash fine. I'm a bit vexed at this point. I think the culprit could be my worn out and corroded fuse box or a short somewhere in the interior harness, maybe the added on trailer light harness.

Amazing Home Brewed Drift Truck... Sorry, But Mazda Content

 Got one sitting in the garage, it gnarls at me every time I look at it. -
Crawl under it. Look for rust, worn CA bushings, have someone steer it side to side and look for worn steering linkages, inspect all the exterior and interior lights and brake lights and turn signals, pull every switch make sure they work - heat and AC, check for oil leaks from the rear main seal, if the owner is cool with it take a compression tester and test the compression in a couple of cylinders, smell the oil and coolant, get underneath and look at the calipers, rotors, brake pads and soft lines, run it to temperature and see how it goes down the road,,,,test the brakes (most likely the OEM booster will leak air), hopefully its got the full skid plate package, do all the doors open and shut smoothly, how's the weather stripping, and finally ask if they have receipts for work done.
-
I recently pulled every single piece of weather stripping of a 99' XJ at the JY. They tried to charge me 1.99 per foot...I had at least 50 feet of it. I haggled with the guy and he charged me for 10', so $20.00 bucks and its all still perfect. The wing window seals are pretty good, but everything else was cracked and junky. I may grab the 97+ full windows and put them in the 89' doors. The other JY I frequent doesn't even charge for rubber, hoses, belts etc.
