Haha! If it was an ex, it could've been mine for sure.

Old girlfriend maybe....

Maybe an early Armored Car company vehicle? But a demolitions transport truck makes more sense given the area. Old explosives weren't as safe as modern explosives now. The armored bed could be to protect bystanders and the armored cab is to protect the driver/passenger.

Thanks guys, I feel lucky to have it. Took it to our local meet just for fun. It got a better RTI score than anyone that went up today, a stock JKU, and a couple stock/mild XJs/TJs. But only having an 80" wheelbase helps :rotf: . Scored 709, just for laughs.

Look at those big, strong arms :brows: Lol JK. Rob, we should both be ashamed that neither of us thought of the FSM Yeah look at how pale they are, they're blinding my eyes!

Yup, Pat, Ben, its the same deal, at this point I should open my own shop. Its just the "good dude" inside me that prevents me from giving people those higher shop prices. I'm no salesman, nor a pitchman. The good Lord didn't bless me with the gift of gab..but I'm almost at the point where I'm thinking I could almost make a mediocre living off of it. Thing is, I'm no expert, I learn more about all years of Jeeps every time I touch one.

Don't tempt me....where the hell is my passport anyway????

Anyone ever got to this point? I've owned about 25 jeeps or so in the last few years. Three and a half current projects. I consider my dd a .5 project, and the 4 or 5 things I need to do to the MJ as one whole project. I'm actively looking for an XJ to put hand controls on for my daughter who is partially disabled (already have the hand controls,,,she's ticked I sold the last XJ which I started her out on with driving lessons). I have other parts for Jeeps I don't own yet but plan to, again I've got axles in the back yard stacking up, almost zero walking space through the garage...I'm about to make an offer on an 86' MJ 2.5, ax5, 4x4 with rusted out floor boards. Its kinda getting easy at this point so why the hell not....local club made me a committee member, and now I fix other peoples jeeps all the time, built an RTI ramp, gotta build a teeter totter soon too. I need to go to some coastal third world country for a 6 month sabbatical where the beer is cheap and so are the women,,,but I'd probably run across some Jeep in the rotting in the jungle and try to fix it while I was there. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep jeepin on.... . :MJ 1: .

Looking good! -
Went to Texas and picked up my M38 last week. Good trip and visit with the folks and a safe trip back to GA. As it sat when I arrived. Its rust free almost, a little bit on the tub under the gas tank, that's it! Flat towed it back to the house and tried to get it running. It had sat for the last 15 years or so without running. The PO stopped driving it because the gas tank got gummed up and clogged the fuel outlet. But it had been garaged the 25 years he had it so besides for some chewed up wires the engine was fine. I cleaned the carb and fuel pump, put a battery on it and it fired right up. It runs perfect, no ticking at all, and it runs very quiet. Still has the 24v generator but some other previous owner replaced the original 24v engine with a 6v engine and the charging system isn't working correctly. So its just running off the battery for now. Not sure if I'm going to put it back to 24v, 6v or 12v just yet. Anyway, the pump worked perfect after a little cleaning. The title had the wrong serial number on it. It had the number off the replacement engine which was 15377, very early for an L head. Not sure what the engine came out of, maybe an old Americar or some other Willys car. But found a body tag on the tub and used acetone to find the real serial number for the Jeep. I picked up a homemade trailer from a guy in Fort Worth who built it for his CJ2A. I painted it and bought new tires for it. It was going to be a slow ride on the interstate so I made a warning sign... Some sightseeing... Anyway, got it home.... Like my temp gas can? Took it on its first beer run to the corner store, even though the master cylinder is seized and there's no brakes and the water pump leaks a lot.

Had it for several weeks, hasn't helped locally....the best thing is to check the closest yard 2x a week.

Wouldn't be too hard to weld up a bung and tap it with npt threads. But go to Manitoba, the deer would be worth the trip.

Mag chloride ain't bad for rust but there's a long going debate on what it does to electronics.

Sounds like someone swapped in a renix engine?

Glad this topic came up. I'm planning on making my own still in the backyard this summer. Not interested in selling or doing anything illegal. To me its just another hobby project. I remember when I was a kid at our family reunions all the WWII vets would refer to their "high test". They'd bring it to the reunions in mason jars. This was in the 70s/80s and it was over my head at the time, I never knew what they meant back then, but now I wanna just make my own still in the backyard just to see if I can brew some. Shine has come back into the popular lexicon and there's lots of flavors on the shelf here, but I can't bring myself to buy it at the liquor store, I'd rather make my own so its authentic.

My First Jeep / Comanche Resurection
Comanche County replied to dankicksass's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Good that you're not letting it overwhelm you. These trucks are easy builds really. For the rear or front light harnesses, look at grabbing some JY ZJ rear and front light harnesses. The locking tabs to twist them into the lamps are the same mostly. I just added the ZJ 3157 sockets to the front signal lights of my 89' XJ, much brighter, and MJ will be the same. They twist in just like the old sockets...should be the same for the rear if your old MJ sockets are rotted out. -
Yup! Its a good jeep, solid, only rust I found was a little bit under the rear hatch weatherstripping. I've put about 1-1.5K miles on it. If it was a turd I'd tell you. Its been my dd for a couple of weeks now. Still gotta do the leaking rear main seal but that's about it. May also throw some MJ shackles on the rear. It handles great on the road, not a powerhouse but a good driver and mild wheeler. The disco d30 still works good.
