Is it possible to save these armrests?
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I didn't want to attack the armrests with the stiff nylon brush I had for fear of tear/scratching them up. I like the toothbrush a bamboo bristle brush ideas and will also source some cleaner with more effectiveness than Dawn dish soap. It looks like there are a lot of vinyl cleaners and conditioners geared towards the boating world that might work. -
I dug to the back of my shed and turned up these gray MJ buckets. I have been saving them for a project truck, but could be persuaded to sell/trade for a nice bench. The seats are disgustingly dirty at the moment, but if you are interested I will pull them out and clean them up. The indentions on the foam were caused by a header panel sitting on the seats with 3 sets of carpet on top of that. I do not see any rodent damage to the fabric. Located in the middle of Kansas along I70.

Is it possible to save these armrests?
87Warrior posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am trying to save some nasty interior parts from a MJ and started on the armrests today. I started cleaning up these hockey stick armrests with hot water, Dawn dish soap and a sponge. Even after scrubbing for a few hours, the grime in the texture is not coming clean (ignore the rodent chew marks)... What methods have you successfully used to clean out these textured interior parts? I would like to avoid the plastic/fabric dye method. I used that on my 86 several years ago and the paint has rubbed off on the armrests. -

Looking good! And yes, that is a Dana 44 rear axle. Nice find! -
I've had very good results from Yukon gear sets.

I love how clean this truck is. Enjoy. I look forward to watching the build -
@ThatStepsideMJ Is it safe to assume this truck is yours?

That is a rotten way to spend a vacation.

This exact scenario is why I always hated commercial flights!

Downey Products tonneau cover

Can those of you who own this cover verify that it is a no-drill installation? -
Around here there is no cost for testing. Drive to pharmacy, sit in parking lot, call the # on a sign and a technician comes to your car window and you shove the q-tip up your nose. They go inside with the snotty q-tip then come back a few minutes later with the test result. I do not believe the covid illness is ever going to go away, just like the flu or common cold. It will probably fade into the background once the entire population (with a vaccination or not) has been exposed. It could be pretty much eradicated if a true inoculation could be developed, not one that simply reduces or eliminates the symptoms a person has when infected with the virus. An inoculation that prevents the infection is what could stop it in its tracks. I am the Pandemic Officer for the bank I work at, a position I gladly accepted in early 2019 because, what was the chance of that EVER happening? In our pandemic plan it states the illness causing a pandemic will most likely come and go in waves over a 3-5 year time frame... nope, I don't like the sound of that! @Pete M It seems like your hospital situation is like ours. My local hospital recently closed the ICU due to a staffing shortage. I don't understand why they fired 2/3rds of the staff who did not want the covid vaccination. All they accomplished was closing critical wings of the building in a time when hospital beds are needed more than ever. Maybe I am obtuse, but wouldn't it be a better service to the community to let healthy people work weather they have been vaccinated or not? From what little I follow in the news, it seems like this is a normal practice across the country?

Lucky! I had it before it was cool and mainstream and I had to take personal days off of work to get better. Shortly after that anybody who got it had an additional bank of sick leave added to their time off to use just for Covid. Argh, I am bitter. I am curious, if you have no symptoms of being sick what prompted you to do the test in the first place?

Yup! That is unless somebody swapped in a low pinion 30.

I used the TJ Yukon D44 master install kit for my MJ D44. It went together without a problem. You will want to make sure the D30 install kit is for a High Pinion (reverse rotation) D30. TJ's did not come with a HP D30, but XJ's did up to 1999. https://www.yukongear.com/shop/yg-d30r-456r

Have you been talking to my wife? It's the ugly truth about a passion for any vehicle.

I have two unregistered partial MJ's in my garage in addition to the trusty, rusty daily driver MJ. There is another local guy that has at least 6 decent MJ's without tags sitting in his yard. I continually browse craigslist for MJ's, but shouldn't. I want to save them all! Someday I know I'll come across my next MJ. It will be one that doesn't run and looks sad, but is presumably rust free and cheap...someday.

When you cleaned the carb did you replace any parts inside? If not, I suggest ordering a rebuild kit from Mikes Carburetor Parts. Rebuild kits are about $50 for a 4 barrel. I used one of his kits to rebuild the carb on my '66 K20 (a 1 barrel) after it had been sitting for more than 10 years. The kit included all gaskets, springs, needle, seat, other wear parts like check valves and even detailed instructions on setting the float height. https://www.carburetor-parts.com/ford-appl.html

I got this electric doohickey and am headed out this weekend to see how it compares to my Stihl and Husky saws

I have a black long bed liner in Kansas. The liner is currently sitting on the ground holding scrap metal in the backyard. It can be yours if you can figure out how to get it to Vegas.

I have a fear that my hot water heater is going to spring a leak while away on vacation. It hasn't given any indication of failure, but it's always in the back of my mind. I have had an exterior faucet start running while on vacation. The neighbors taking care of the cat noticed it so I had them shut the water off to the house.

Hey Pete, count me in! I might need 2 if the price is right
