  1. seafoam is probably 1 of the best things that has happened to any gas or diesel engines. i have used it regularly since i first found it in the mid to late 80's (or there abouts). i use it in all gas and diesel engines. i run it through the crankcase for about a week or two before i change the oil. i put a can in the gas every other fill or so and run it in 1/4 tank of gas every couple months so it's stronger. i poor it down the intake or suck it through a vaccuum line going to the intake system. i also use it as a parts cleaner. the big difference for me is that, when i run it through/down the intake or the carb, i do not stop and let it sit. i keep the engine running, so you need to keep on the gas to keep it from stalling, and add it slowly. i add the whole can. i add it untill the exhaust runs clear, sometimes it takes 2 cans. what has been said is true, it will smoke like crazy and have some neighbors come over to see what on fire. basically the smoke is the crud you want out of the engine so when it runs clear, you should have gotten it all. i use this method because i feel the firing of the plugs and the movement of everything get all the carbon deposits and varnish, etc. out. i do this at least once a year but usually twice. if it's a vehicle that's sat for quite awhile, i do use the poor it in untill the engine dies than let it sit method (i go 1 hour then) and follow it by my regular poor it in and keep it running method. it does work for stabilizing the fuel for storage, and works to remove moisture in the fuel as well as a anti-gel addative in the diesel fuel. i even use it in all the equiptment at the club. i always have 1 or 2 cans around. it's great stuff, use it!!!
  2. i used to run a shop and we did undercoating. i have personal experience and training in applying it.it's a great way to go and does help with rust. the catch is that they don't tell you it comes off under certain situations. if you drive alot of gravel, the kicked up rocks and sand from your tires sandblasts it right off in the wheel weel. since that's a prime rust area, that blows the benefits right there.on frames and underbody areas, you have to make sure you apply it to the holes in the frame. the catch there is that the inside of the frame still gets moisture and rust from the inside. it is impossible to cover the inside of the frame or the total frame in any area. the other thing with it is that if you ever want to mount something or use the holes, you will have a mess to clean up and will have to undercoat the new bolts. every time the bolt goes in and out or moves, that wears the undercoat off. i could go on withthe good and bad things about undercoating. so what would i do? on a brand new vehicle, i'd have them do it and get a warranty for wear so they have to reapply it in the fenderwells. the dealer stuff in really the way to go as it is far better than anything available in a spray can. i would also make sure it is put on thinck. at least a double coat. in you situation, i'd por15 it, then treat it witrh the prep primer and use bedliner. you can roll it on and get it whereever you want for a reasonable price. it will look nice and cleans up easy with an underside wash at the car wash. i think it's the way to go. but that's just me. :smart:
  3. maybe you should buy him a gun. i'd like that. ;) the parents deserve a little extra this year after letting you move in. give them a weekend away from it all at a hotel or better a bed and breakfast. you don't need to spend alot if you can't even a cheap hotel in a great location (depending on what cities and attractions are near you) is a good choice. it says how much you care plus let's them spend some time away from it all
  4. trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. i'd go with the 4.0 as well. the ease of the swap would outway any benefit from a sbc cubic inch issue in my book. if you look at a sbc, they don't put out as much as you may hope without some mods. making those mods in the swap you're considering will require alot of work to make them fit/work in you app. take a good look at the 4.0 and then check out the mods that can be made to get much more out of it. it will fit and hook up without a problem and get as much or more than a mild build on the sbc. the money you save from the fab work that will be required in the sbc could pay for alot of mods to a good 4.0. check into the mods that can be done on the 4.0 and i think you'll be happy with the output vs a sbc. add the weight issue to the front suspension in a sbc swap and you'll be happier with the 4.0. by the way, i am a sbc man and have done a fair amountof mods to them. i have a suburban with a 350 and love it. i wouldn't put one in my jeep tho. if you're really into a cool swap, just spend all the money on a supercharger and bolt it on for some fun. just go with the 4.0 and enjoy.
  6. i wonder if clifford makes 1? they have alot of 4cyl and inline 6 products and may have a replacement option as well as a performance option.
  7. does either one have a tps. i need 1 for an 87 2.5 4wd with auto and overdrive. i'm not sure what years are compatible but i'm in need of 1. i'm not sure if that's the problem and would like to try a good 1 to see. no parts stores here have 1.
  8. mine might be shot so i need a new one. 87 2.5 4wd auto with overdrive. i'm not sure what other years would fit.
  9. thanks. i was wondering about the tps because no parts stores here have one. does any one have a good one in their parts bin? does one for the 4.0 fit (i'm sure not but have to ask)? if i understand you correctly, you think it's the aw4 and i can find that on a cherokee with a 4 cyl. i was thinking i was kinda thinking it isa th but was not sure since they used more than 1 tranny.i want a bolt in and don't wante to modify anything, i just want to pop a tranny in if that's what it needs. swapping out the housing and torque converter is not a big deal. finding the tranny may be tuff. i don't know what is wrong with it, it runs and drives great just won't shift out of second. it's been sitting for a couple months leaking fluid. i fillered her up and drover over to fill with some fresh gas and it wouldn't shift out of second. i will be parking it indoors and won't be using it until i get it figured out. it stinks since this is the prime time to use it for me. i need to put a new break master cylinder in as well. if i can get it on the road as soon as possible, that would be great.
  10. i want both, but will take just the grill guard. not to picky.
  11. '87 comanche pioneer, 4wd,auto with the "power" button, overdrive, 2.5 motor. also, what vehicles can they be found on. i think i need to replace the tranny it won't shift above second and is leaking fluid like crazzy. it was suggested on here to check the tps and something else (i don't remember). i don't believe the 4 banger has a tps. if you have other opinions, please let me know. where the truck is sitting i don't have room to get under it right now to see where it's leeking.
  12. auto trannywon't shift above 2nd after the vehicle has been parked for a couple months without running. i parked it for a while because i didn't need it. when i started it up and ran it to the gas station to put some fresh gas in it, it wouldn't shift above 3rd. it has been leaking fluid (i'm not sure where yet) so i checked it and put a quart in. it still didn't shift after running for quite a while. it shifted perfect before i parked it and has never had any issue. it runs fine and shifts through reverse, neutral, and through 1st and second and back fine. it is an 87 4wd with the auto tranny with overdrive and the tranny with the "power button" (i don't remeber what tranny that is) and has just turned 100k miles. so any ideas? :dunno:
  13. the kids went as 2 witches and 2 devils. i just put on my deer hunting clothes a week early. the wife came up with a pretty cool one though. while i was out getting dinner, she put on some of my "work stuff". i came home to her in torn and greasy pants and a torn and greasy shirt, a retro champion spark plugs vest, and my greasy, smelly "good ol boys" work cap. she put some of my "loanable" tools in her pockets and got a couple greasy rags out of the garage. then she smeared some grease on her face and hands. then she said that she needed to add something to make it "more like me". she wiped fake blood on her hands and pants. smartass. ;)
  14. around here we call that "ground swatting". can't do that if you hunt with dogs. ;)
  15. man! if we could shoot hens there wouldn't be much challenge. they're all over. it's the cocks that get hard to find. they hold tight or run. thank god for good dogs though. i usually get my limit each time i go out (2 cocks in mn and 3 in nd). it's been tough this year though because it's been so cold and wet. farmers haven't been able to get the crops off yet so all the birds are in the crops. can only hunt crops if the farmer ok's it and right now, most don't want you to because they're looking at bad crops the way it is. you can usually walk corn, most farmers will let you, but the huge fields of corn make that pretty tough to get birds. i'll be pheasant hunting while at deer camp from friday through next week. should be a good time. shoot a deer in the morning, then pheasant hunt, then shoot a couple geese and a couple ducks. makes for a fun day! i love hunting!!!!
  16. yep, i'm a die hard hunter. i couldn't even guess how many deer i have shot between slug gun, rifle, bow, and black powder and different states. in '06 i shot 5 does 2 bucks in one state with rifle, 1 doe 1 buck, in another, 2 with bow (1 in each state), and 2 muzzleloader (1 in each state). that's a total of 13 for 1 year alone. most years i shoot 6-8 and get meat from up to 14. this year i have tags between my dad and i (i usually shoot his and he doesn't use the meat) 5 rifle in nd and i have 2 in mn, then i still have 1 in each state for bow, and 2 in each state for muzzleloader. i should come out with at least 9 or 10, but shouldn't have an issue filling all of them. then i'll pick up 2-4 from camp members who don't want all the meat. i'm shooting for 15 in the freezer this year. i hope. ;)
  17. ummmmmmm, mine was.........well, no comment. :rotfl2:
  18. congrats man!!! the first bird of any kind is great, but a ruffy is special. you don't get many shots and when you do, it's a tough shot. i hunt ruffies regularly in the minnesota woods. my true love with hunting is pheasant though. i'd give up hunting everything to be able to hunt pheasants year round. that's actually kind of funny of me to say because i do hunt them year round. with dog training i usually have 10 on hand in my pen at the club. i plant them and work the dog. sometimes i shoot and sometimes i have someone come with to shoot them while i concentrate on the dogs. i also use chuckar partridge for training. i would say that so far in '09 i've shot about 100-120 pheasants and 175-200 chuckar. i also go quail hunting in arizona every year. i take plenty of them. of course then there's dove hunting, duck hunting, and goose hunting (not doing turkey this year). i get to shoot alot of birds, but i spend many hours a week working/training the dogs. this weekednd (friday 1pm) is deer opener. i'll head out to deer camp early friday morning and won't be back untill the eleventh. then go back that weekend and most of the next week. i'll finish off the deer season at camp. even if we get all our deer early, i'll have the dogs and be pheasant hunting the rest of the time. i have been out about every weekend since mid september or so. i have a week or so the beginning of december that i won't hunt, otherwise it's back out until the janruary close of the season. then i take the rest of jan and most of feb off. back at it come march. with field trials, tests, competitions, i'm out most weekends. i'm lucky the wife and kids are into it.
  19. i've done alot of roadside repairs and parking lot fixes. the all time biggest was a clutch in a cj years ago in the parking lot at napa. it was interesting and i had most the employees out there watching me. i probably would have gotten in trouble but so many people stopped to check it out, the store actually gained a little business. since i had the tranny off, i talked the manager into letting me leave it overnight and came back the next morning to install the tranny i rebuilt over night. :ack: you never realize how little some of these "parts guys" know until you have them surounding you asking what "that" piece is and where "that" goes. i do have to give credit to the couple of friends that helped me right there in the parking lot. my wife who ran back home to get me tools, and keep me supplied with food and drink, as well as allowed me to put a dirty old jeep tranny in the back of her audi to bring it home and back. i should also give a shout out to all those who stopped and looked under and either said what the_____ are you doing, or you need to do this or that. :wavey: just so you all know, i bought a couple cases of beer for the napa workers for letting me work in the driveway. they just said it was a good thing the store owner doesn't live here.
  20. yep, you're a redneck. but i am proud to say, so am i. my neighbors all look at me like i'm crazy when i pull a vehicle on the grass to wash it rather than in the driveway. hey, i save money that way. the car gets washed and the grass gets watered. they also look at me funny when i park one of the trucks out front on the street and the next morning there's a foot of mud on the ground surounding it. then i just leave the mud and let the rain wash it down.
  21. my entire truck is done with hurculiner (po did it). i've been happy with it. the po rolled it on, i'd spend a few extra bucks to buy the spray gun. for the body, mine feels a little rough, so i'm going to redo it but spray this time and smooth it out a bit. i really have been suprised at how well it's held up. it's been on for 6 years now and doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
  22. that's hot. i need to pick up a 2wd so i can start the project. :rotfl2: it's like i always say, if you take a ford and put a porsche motor in it, porsche interior, porsche body, porsche suspension, would that be a porsche? :dunno:
  23. i don't see an issue. just prep them properly. i've used it before and i just respray when needed. i've had pretty good luck with herculiner. i even have a set of old steel wheels that came on the mj that might get sprayed that way. if you want to paint them, use a good quality paint like krylon, prep them, spray them, then set them in the sun to bake. that works great. my current wheels are done this way and i haven't had to do any respraying in 1 1/2 years. if i do, i just keep a can of the paint around. i'd go for it.
  24. since we are homeschooling this is a big issue. many homeschooling publishings are geared around creationism and don't teach evolution. we believe in evolution so we have to make sure we get the right books. i come from a catholic upbringing, so i'm going to hell for just thinking of evolution. my wife was a strict methodist so she's coming with me. here entire family line would stone us for considering evolution. my parents don't care, my sister is athiest, but past my parents and siblings, they'd try to get me drunk untill i forget evolution. i do believe in god and church, just not all of it. ;)
