  1. I bought another one.... The wife and I are thinking maybe to fix up and donate to her companies fall charity auction. This one is kinda funky too. It was made by Hedstrom in August of 1977.... still has the original build sticker on it, and original seat upholstery, but the axle is bent, and the pedal arm is bent. Looks like one kid may have used it, and it was then stored. Bought it at another antique store while I was at Mazda training in Atlanta, GA. here's the before pics... hopefully it won't be a whole year before I have after pics!
  2. Get pics too of the steering knuckle, if its been swapped too that might be an issue as well. That will at least get us on the right track.
  3. Keep it, look for an AX-15 to swap in, and do a bed bob if you like the short bed look, that is if you have enough fabrication skills. Just search bed bob here and youll get the idea. Then youll have what you want, the extra 6 inches or so of wheelbase won't make a difference then.
  4. Yes, 97-06 TJ wrangler front axles are bolt in, just make sure you get the brakes with it too, as they will probably be different than what you currently have and not interchange. You might find a 4:10 in a dana 30 easier by looking at older Cherokees, like 84-86 with a manual.... the V6 5 speeds were 4:10, and the 4 cylinder 5 speeds were 4:10. Might be easier to find one of them, than to find a 4 cylinder manual TJ.

  6. The 4.0 throttle body mod will only work if you have a 91 or newer port injected 2.5, and removing the cat won't make a difference in the 2.5 powerband. I have a gutted and sleeved cat, flowmaster muffler, removed engine fan and added electric fan, and a high flow air intake tube and filter, and have noticed small power gains with each of them. I have plans for a header in the future, and am hoping to get the Pacesetter. Id like to do a cam too, but finding one has been next to impossible. Mopar used to have one, but is no longer available, and theres a Canadian company outside of Vancouver that used to have a selection of them listed, but their website says they have been temporarily shut down for quite a while now. ......Just rechecked their site, its now back up, and they no longer list a cam for the AMC 2.5. :fs1: Might need to look at companies to do a custom grind. And don't listen to all of the naysayers in regard to 2.5 power mods. If the 2.5 is all you have to work with, then by all means do what you want to. Yes its true that a 4.0 will give you everything you want and more, but if its not feasable to have one installed, then do what you have to do, with what you got. But if you do modify the 2.5, just don't get your hopes up too much. Clifford has a 2.5 intake listed on their website, and Ive wondered about adding it and then modifying a 2bbl TBI injected throttle body from a GM v6 to it to work with the factory wiring and controls. I'm not sure though that the RENIX PCM would be able to have enough power output to control two injectors. The injector is controlled through on off times by the computer through inputs from the 02 sensor, and Throttle position sensor. I would think that if the computer could control both injectors, it would just cut back the on time to compensate for the additional fuel from the second injector to keep air fuel raio where it needs to be. That is assuming that all the sensor parameters between the two styles of throttle bodies are the same or similar. Ive yet to try this, but have been tossing it around in the back of my mind for a while now, and an initial look at the service info finds at least that the TPS voltages seem to be the same. Anyways.... good luck with whatever you come up with....let us know how it works out.
  7. Its not illegal to run witout doors, as long as you obey your local seatbelt laws.
  8. I was unable to find a stock resevior for my conversion, so I adapted one from another vehicle and made a mounting bracket for it.
  9. Nobody makes a kit because it is compltely unnecessary. The stock system does exactly the same thing, and is set up the same as an MSD system, as all modern engines are. You would only benefit from the MSD system if you were changing from a points system, or were building a buggy or truck from the ground up, and needed an easilly adaptable stand alone high energy ignition, for use with a carburator, or other stand alone fuel injection system. Just make sure your original parts are good, and thats all you need to be equivalent to the MSD system.

  11. You can add a brake line pressure lock inline to the rear brakes. You can get them through several different places such as Summit, or Jegs, places like that. You press the brake pedal, hit the line lock, and it will hold pressure in the brake line to hold the brakes until you relaese it. Just an option, though some people say this will cause premature seal damage to the calipers, might be worth it though if it is easier to make everything work.
  12. A good working OEM ignition will do just as good, though you might be able to add a hotter coil , but you probably won't notice any difference.

  14. I had a set of free JK wrangler bumpers that I wanted to adapt to the MJ way back when, but even they are way too wide to fit and look right.
  15. Yookohama Geolander AT/S is also good value for the money... go to www.tirerack.com , and you can look up your size and get track and customer reviews for most tires. I research all my purchases there before buying... even bought my last set from them, as it was, with shipping, from them was cheaper than getting them through the dealer I work for at emplyee discount.
  16. CARS 2 from Disney PIXAR. I stumbles on the trailer for it tonight, and saw at least one Pacer, and one Gremlin.... who knows what else might be in the movie.... Though I'm sure they just featured those cars because of their reputation as wierd and or ugly.
  17. I don't have a measurment, but I think it would hang over each end by almost a foot! Dem trucks is BIG
  18. Did you say that you miss cable clutches???? REALLY??? In my experience I can't say that cable clutches are more reliable than hydraulic. Ive had too many cables break to make a call like that, but as I think about it, if youre on the trail, and it breaks, might be easier to repair one of those than a hydraulic fault. I guess if thats what youre going for, that might be better.
  19. I thought about doing this on my Hyundai Tucson, but chickened out, as the car is still too new, though I did mount a set of Yokohama Geolander AT's in stock size. Maybe next time.... after the warranty lapses.
  20. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER BURN ANY BRIDGES!!!! If and when you get the new job, POLITELY go into your old job, GIVE 2 WEEKS NOTICE, thank them for your time with them, and let them know that new opportunities await you, and you have to take them. I speak from experience here. Screwed that pooch more than once. If you are currrently on good terms with your existing job, keep it that way as you leave! You never know what the future may bring, and you just MIGHT have to go crawling back, and they will welcome you with open arms. Weather you like it or not... it is a possibility, and if you have that door to use to go back, its like a little insurance policy for you. Please just be nice.
  21. That is sooo cool! You need to take it if they offer it! If for anything the experience alone. That is one of those jobs that isnt going anywhere, and will always be needed! And you get to put the smackdown on a buch of little punks stealing shiznit! Youre still young enough that the time travelling won't matter, so... Just do it!
  22. WOW! What a waste! And what are those guages from???? Never seen any like that.
  23. For a street truck, with stock tires, and a 4.0, I would not go over 3:73, and might even do 3:55. The 3:73 is commonly available in Ford 8.8 axles or on 35's from Grand Cherokees, or 8.25 axles from Liberty's. And the 3:55 can be found in 35's from 4 cylinder 4 speed MJ's and XJ's.... I'm assuming you currently have 3:05 gearing right now, so anything will be an improvement, but if youre not running big tires, I wouldnt go too far... especially when you have the torque range the 4.0 has. I just think that going to 4:10 will just make it revvy, and ruin your gas milage too much.
  24. While I agree with the pinion angle and moving the perches the XJ perches are not offset as much as the picture shows. I measured the rear 44 in my MJ and the 8.25 from my old 93 XJ and there was only 1" of difference from center to center. Ive seen pics on here where someone has bolted the XJ axle in with no modification, and it really does NOT look good! Maybe its only a half inch per side, but it don't look good installed.... looks half asssed and dangerous. don't do it. And the front will need around 6 inches of lift to match the rear, and will need as previously stated, a minimum of adjustable control arms top and bottom, and should also have control arm drop brackets, or a long arm setup, also an adjustable track bar, longer sway bar links and a professional alignment.
