  1. If it was me, I would lube the cable with White lithium spray grease, and the window tracks with either a dry graphite spray lube, or a silicone spray lube. that should help you out, but with the age and all of the involved parts, you may still end up needing to replace some parts. Good luck.
  2. This is good to know. I heard others say they noticed a loss of power. But, makes sense since its not pumping unless turning. Did you have to change any of the steering linkage beyond the pitman? Being that the PS box came from an MJ (or XJ) I didnt change the pitman, and all the rest of the linkage is exactly the same, including the steering shaft. I took the manual box out and bolted the power box in. Thats it as far as thats concerned.
  3. http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... rangler-or Possible 4 wheel independant wrangler or just a Chrysler screwup? You decide...
  4. I did not mean that the JK or the others were unibody, just that they to could be considered real Jeeps... sorry for the confusion. And Freak... I really wish you would restart your build thread..... just thought I would throw that out there.
  5. As someone who has swapped PS onto my 2.5, I can tell you there is no noticeable power drain from the engine with this system. PS pump only works the engine when youre doing slow speed parking manuevers, in a straight line the is little to no drain on the engine power. Best swap I ever did going to Power steering. I swapped in the box from my 86 Mj and bought new lines and a rebuilt pump, and a new pulley, and made up a resevior, and Ive been loving it ever since. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.
  6. What year did the wrangler get the 2.4 neon motor? Though I'm pretty sure the bellhousing wouldnt fit even then.
  7. WE did not get one for the lot yet, but a factory rep came through to do a training for the sales people. This one was a hemi, with full leather interior, and it had the proximity sensor key system that would unlock whatever door for you automatically as you approach it, with the pushbutton starter. As I first saw it, I wasnt 100% sure it was the WK or not as the profile is very similar to the pevious model, but the front and rear ends are different, and it was slightly sleeker. I was hoping to get a look at the new Pentastar V6, but not yet I guess. For next year they are doing away with the 3.3, 3.8 minivan engines, the 2.7, and 3.5 engines in the 300, Charger, and Challenger, and the 3.7 in the truckks. The Wrangler will keep the 3.8 for a while yet, and I'm not sure about the 3.7 in the Libby or Nitro yet.
  8. 1. Body mod: including Cherokee rear bumper, Wagoneer front end, sticker removal, chrome trim, vent wing windows 2. Power accessories installs (windows, locks, mirrors, antenna, AC, PS, clock, radio) 3. 4:10 gearing, and 4x4 conversion with 5 speed and minor lift
  9. Who are any of us to say what a real Jeep is. It has been different for each generation. All things evolve, all things change. Being a dealer tech, and know a few ins and outs about the JK's, I can't say that they arent a real Jeep. There still is nothing else in the market... at least in the US,that can actually compare to the off the showroom off road capability of a new JK. And we all know that AMC hit a homerun with engineering the 4.0, but what did all the people think about it when IT first came out? That goes the same for each engine down the line. We are being awfully closed minded when we say "it aint a real Jeep. I can just imagine what was said about our UNIBODY XJ's and MJ's when they came out. If anything a unibody can't be a real Jeep can it? But it is! Just as the JK is, and the WJ is, and the ZJ, KJ, WK, TJ, and the new 2011 which I just saw in person yesterday IS..... to somebody..... the next generation. Sorry about the rant, I just get a little peeved always hearing this not a real Jeep dribble. GROW UP ALREADY! can't WE ALL JUST GET ALONG! :shake:
  10. CW. I was wanting to run those rims on my manche too! i thought they only come in 5x5 BP. how did you get them to work for you? Thanks Devin I'm sure those are TJ rubi rims, the TJ has the 5x4.5 bolt pattern, youre thinking of the JK rubi rims with the 5x5 bolt pattern.
  11. New article on www.allpar.com today referencing this topic. http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... wirl-again Rumors of a possible civilian Jeep pickup are making the rounds again. According to PickupTrucks.com, Jeep brand CEO Mike Manley is interested in the idea of a smaller pickup, not so much for the U.S., but for a wider global market where such a truck could compete with vehicles from Nissan and Toyota. Volkswagen is also getting onto the market with the four-door Amarok pickup. The item posted by Mike Levine noted Jeep pickup concepts continue to spark consumer interest. Mopar’s Nukizer 715 concept received an enthusiastic reception at the Moab Jeep Safari last spring and there was excitement about the J8 Sarge concept that debuted in 2008. Levine quotes Manley as saying compact pickups have had a tough time in the U.S. but do better globally. Using this as an excuse to dither about a Jeep pickup indicates Manley is either being disingenuous about a Jeep pickup being considered or he needs to take another look at the pickup market in the U.S. There is only one true, American-badged compact pickup sold in the U.S.: the Ford Ranger and it is basically 27 years old, being largely unchanged since it took over from a rebadged Mazda in 1983. GM dropped its compact S10 and Sonoma compacts and introduced the mid-size Colorado and Canyon which, along with the Dodge Dakota, were close enough in size and price to a full-size pickup that there was no value in selecting the smaller model. That most definitely would not be true of a Jeep pickup – if it’s the right Jeep pickup. The question in Mike Manley’s mind, and in the mind of Sergio Marchionne, should not be whether to make a Jeep pickup, but what kind of Jeep pickup to make. Should it be a more-or-less conventional pickup, along the lines of the original Kaiser/American Motors Gladiator, or a Wrangler-based truck, like the J8 or the 2005 Gladiator concept (shown above)? Considering that extended cab or crew cab pickups account for the majority of pickup sales, an extended-wheelbase JK might be the way to go: it certainly wouldn’t be confused with anything else! Plus, it would extend the Wrangler franchise and wouldn’t be as price-sensitive as a truck consumers perceive to be just another pickup, one of the problems encountered by the Gladiator and Honcho. It’s time to drop the other shoe; make the rumors reality and green-light a Jeep pickup.
  12. I just found my new desktop picture!!!! And this is THE truck I speak of when I say I would drive the wife crazy to get one! I agree with the roll up windows and AC, but thats all it would need. A rubber floor, a split bench seat, radio.... Keep it simple! A REAL truck! Like when we were kids riding around with dad... it just doesnt get any better.
  13. I agree... best place to start. Take the old filter number to the parts store and have them cross reference it to the brand you want.
  14. I completely agree about them continuing to tease us over the years. I'm finally at point in my life where theres a possibility in the near future that I could buy a new pickup if needed, but there are very few that I would consider. A Jeep would be perfect in that regard. I just hope they have enough vision to finally do something about it for the US market. The US hasnt really had a new midsize pickup for a long time. The Dakota is too darned big (and ugly), the Ranger hasnt been redesigned since 1993, the yota has a strong following but has done nothing impressive in 20 years... same for Nissan, Isuzu (Chevy), Mitsubishi (Dodge). Design and engineering in that segment has been stagnant for too long.... no wonder no one wants to buy a new midsize, especially when they continue to offer us the same old crap. If that Nukizer showed up in my dealers showroom.... I would do everything in my power to get one....up to and including driving the wife absolutely crazy till I got one. Id probably have to change jobs to one with a more steady paycheck to do it too. but I think it would be worth it! PLEASE JEEP>>>>JUST BUILD IT!
  15. Also found this link on NAXJA http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=983428
  16. I really don't know if they are the same or not, but in my thinking, the only difference MAY be that the electrical connector for it is year specific and won't plug right up.... thats my guess.... and I mean GUESS. Its probably the same part with an earlier style connector, so you might be able to cut and swap connectors and make it work.
  17. My father in law has been doing this for years, extensively experimenting with flavors.... including a Jalapeno wine ( made with a white grape base) that can only be drank in shots because its so friggin hot, you won't want to drink it any other way. Cool stuff... keep it up!
  18. Even if you disconnect one front wheel, won't you still get binding in the transfer case this way? Seems a little bass ackwards to me, but if you think it will work for you, and the price is right, go for it.
  19. This rebadge fell through when the bancruptcy happened. There will be no rebadged ram for Nissan.
  20. Or pull it out, and take it to the car wash and hit the whole thing with the pressure washer after spraying it down with a color safe degreaser. Then if you have any wierd color spots you can touch it up with a spray dye in a similar color.... a guy i know just did this to his Ranger V8 project, and it turned out nice!
  21. I guess I don't know Jeeps like I thought I did, so I have a question.... what is an LJ????
  22. Just read an article at www.allpar.com that shows the new rams have very high ratings when it comes to reported problems. I would go that route myself, but then again I'm biased toward them anyways.
  23. Just looked it up, there appaears to be a seperate oil pan gasket section for the bottom of the timing cover, so you might want to get that gasket too, and a new front crankshaft seal that installs in the cover.
  24. Alldata shows to remove harmonic balancer, and then goes right to remove cover. Does the oil pan overlap the bottom edge of the timing cover? I'm not sure, but the directions sound easy enough. Good luck.
  25. After looking at the VIN's on the registry pages, I was wondering if the Comanches serial numbers were all for Comanches or if they were just thrown in with the XJ's? Because looking at the VINS serial part, we know there werent that many Comanches made. Has anyone looked into this before?
