There is an aftermarket Fey bumper that will fit the MJ. I posted pics of one compared to factory in my signature link below on the last page of the link. They say Feys are rust prone but that shouldn't be a problem in Florida. I bought mine at an Indiana JY and it was fine so I can't say. They are still readily available. You can get them in black or chrome. Comanche tongue weight is 200# and trailer weight was 3,000 IIRC. I pulled an 1100 lbs diesel garden tractor and push mower on a steel trailer with wood deck for years with no problems. Some trailers are made so the hitch that goes over the ball is higher than the rest of the trailer hitch. Then if you make a sharp turn, the trailer will cut into the bumper. That is why you see dents to the side of the ball on some truck bumpers. If you can swing it, I would try to obtain a frame hitch but the bumper will work fine for your application.

Very Nice. I knew these lights existed and I needed a pair of them. But there was no way I was going to cut my b-pillar panels. These lights look much better than my bare wires. :)

The only MJ that looks better than a red chief is a white one. Regardless of whether it is a real chief or a clone, it looks great. -
I remember when the eagle came out. I thought it was sort of a goofy little car. Now I look back and think it was way ahead of its time, by about 25 years.

Boo. Ok, you got me. Nice bike though. :)

BEAUTIFUL red Eliminator on Ebay

Very nice. Unmolested MJs are becoming very rare. -
If I recall correctly, the thermostatic fan relay is located on the driver side, toward the front, along the front fender.

I have an F150 Raptor. They came with Fox shocks. I love them. I am not sure how much benefit you would get with the Comanche suspension. I really like the OME shocks for the MJ.

The VW beetle? Wife had one when we were dating. Hideous little creature. I am just not feeling the love.

Mine needed as many body panels replaced as that thing. It looks fine now.

Cracks in metal around back glass

Did you ever run a Carfax or similar on your truck? It would be interesting to see where it originally came from and how long it's been on Guam. I sold a Chevy Celebrity I had to a local when I left there to move to the Marshall Islands in the early 90s. A few years later I was on my way to Japan via Continental Air and took an overnight on Guam. The taxi that I used from the airport to the hotel turned out to be the same Celebrity I had sold years before. Found out it had been sold several times since I left and was still chugging around earning $$ as a taxi. Dang, what are the chances? -
^ yea that. May have been nice in it's day.

Some like the bench seat. When I bought my truck new in '87 I remember thinking the bench was too soft and wore out even when the truck was new. But in all honesty, it hasn't gotten any worse. In my opinion, benches seemed flimsy when new even though they probably weren't. My truck had only 87k miles on it when I removed the bench. Other than a small tear, the seat and springs aged well. My point is if you think the springs may not last, you may find they were always that way and may wear well for years. I am small framed and found some '87 XJ limited buckets that matched my interior. I think they are some of the most comfortable buckets I have sat in but I can see why a larger framed person would prefer the bench. Also, my bench came without headrests. If I get rear ended, my head is going through the rear glass. I have no regrets but it is possible you might be one that would.

As you already know, if you take the top part of the xj bracket and combine it with the bottom part of the MJ bracket, they bolt right in at about the same height. Where you get into trouble is there were certain seat brackets off the XJ that lifted the seat higher considerably higher than stock. I think they reclined or something like that. You would want to stay away from those.

Chiefs didnt have any "comanche" emblems other than the sticker running down the sides.

I have some old pics of the mj before it was panted. I took a pic of the rocker. You can get a good look at how it was from the factory from there. It makes sense that it would be body color since it was a unibody truck.

Frame rails... For those of you that never owned a new MJ, when comanches were produced off the assy line, the frame rails were painted the same color as the body. But they subdued the body color a bit by spraying some kind of undercoating on the frame. Most of the coating on mine was gone but the frame was not sheet metal smooth. I took it to a mechanic a few years ago after it just got out of the body shop. The mechanic said he didnt like how the body shop painted over the "rust on the frame". Whatever buddy.

It's been awhile since I posted any photos so I thought I would post one of my favorite toy. She just turned 52 in this photo. If anyone looks at the old comanche of the month photos, you may have seen my truck in there. The rake was a little overdone since I added new rear leafs plus it had an embarrassing fey bumper on it. It now has a minor lift in the front since I added OME front coils and a factory rear bumper.

This may not be what you are talking about if you can't even rev your engine but many comanches have 3.07 gears which is way too high IMO. If I am driving down the highway, most of the time, I won't even go into 5th gear. If I recall correctly, 4th is around 2200rpm at around 60mph. For years, I always thought there was something wrong with my Comanche until I installed a tach and could see what was really going on.

Oh and the chiefs are very cool but I suspect everyone already knows that. :)

just remember the surface rust. if you see some of it starting to appear from around the rear wheel flairs, that means there is a lot of it behind the flairs.

I have a ford raptor. One of the largest green foot prints out there right now. 6.2 liters & 13mpg highway. God help us all.

that would provide someone with a nice rear bumper.
