  1. No offense Jim but when I prop my hood up, I just use the rod. Not my forehead. It seems to work better for me. :rotf:
  2. Wow, I had no idea any of this was going on. He was just a kid. You're a class act Rob. Nice choice for COTM.
  3. I have an '87 and although it is no longer my daily driver, I wouldnt hesitate to treat it as such. It has the same behavior and characteristics as it did when I bought it new. Mechanically, I don't think it has aged a day. It is a renix and takes 7 cranks to start it. The same as when new. I would hesitate a bit in winter due to the salt on Indiana roads however.
  4. I have an '87 and wouldnt think twice about it. Mine is a 5 speed. I doubt I would get much use out of 5th gear but I am running very high gears (3.07:1) so 5th is useless anyway until I get up to 60mph.
  5. Any modifications that require a saws-all should be reconsidered. I am constantly amazed at how frequently someone takes a perfectly good truck with a perfectly good bed and cuts it up, bobs the bed, or hacks the flairs off.
  6. I didnt see this until now. Is it too late? Did you already buy something?
  7. I had to replace mine. Unscrew all the door hardware and pop the door panel loose. You don't need to worry about the door handle hardware as long as everything is loose. The door panel needs to be loose enough to get to the screw to remove the triangle trim cover.
  8. Am I the only one that reads his posts purely for the entertainment value? :clapping: Oh and Jim, don't forget Indiana. Don't accept any packages from Indiana either.
  9. The dash is bad. I will get the door panels and plastic but there is no center console. :(
  10. I feel I hit a homerun today at a junkyard. I have an '87 with factory black interior. When I find a black interior, usually I look at it pretty close. Most are '86. Today, I found an '86 but it had very thick black sun visors rather than the thin cardboard covered in felt. I have seen several '86's but all had the felt like mine. This thing was not loaded either. Has anyone seen vinyl sunvisors in an MJ?
  11. I paid $500 for an '87 with about 70k miles on it & d44 axle. It was driven by an old guy every weekend to mow grass during the summers. Then it sat during the winter months. The engine, frame and interior were in very good shape but the body panels were not. It still runs like new.
  12. Proof reading medical manuscripts? The guy died from boredom. :ack:
  13. I have to state the obvious. A guy asks if anyone has a trac-lok for sale. Instead he gets driving lessons. This is hilarious. Don, Doesnt this post needs moved to the tech section? :rotfl2: On a technical note, this is new to me. I didnt realize Jeep offered trac-lok for a d35. In '87, if you got a trac-lok on a comanche, it needed a D44. :dunno:
  14. 'bout time.
  15. Eagle, Not to change the subject but I am glad there is someone on here older than me (47). :jump:
  16. I agree completely. This is what happens when you are out of ideas.
  17. Everything I have always heard is the aftermarket carpet kits are not as good of quality as the OEM stuff was. I ordered samples from one manufacturer and would agree with that although others may be better. I also heard the aftermarket kits do not lay down flat. Dunno if it is right or wrong. I chickened out at replacing mine long ago.
  18. Excellent. Nice color choice too. I would encourage you to take some other shots when the sun is out though. No offense but... what a gloomy day. :rotf:
  19. Give up and go to the after hours clinic. No home remedies or over the counter helps. You will think it is getting better. Then the evening rolls around and you are ready to cut off body parts.
  20. Others may disagree and this is only one person's opinion but they are rare. Comanche wasnt made for very long. So you could think of it as a limited production vehicle. That doesnt mean it will ever go up in value though. It may not. But the condition has a lot to do with it. It is certainly rare enough to take care of it. Often times, when someone buys one of these poor trucks, the first thing they want to do is go at it with a saws-all and cut it up. So if you don't do that, that is half the battle. Regarding the Chief verses the other models, I think the chief is unique but I don't know that I would call it rare, although I thought it was rare when I had it. I didnt see too many of them back in the day. But Comanches in general are rare. Is the chief the coolest? Perhaps but admittingly, I am bias. Perhaps the red is the "coolest" but don't kid yourself, those white ones may be less cool than the red but only by about .2 centimeters. I would love to have a matching set. :) Plus, maroon interior is much easier to find than BLACK!

    Roll Bar

That bedliner is a comanche one. I have seen them at JY's but they never say Comanche on them. Spray on the bedliner and install the Roll Bar. Keep the bedliner for posterity. That white truck would look great with a factory bar on it so you must have resolve to stay the course and get it installed.
  22. I have always liked white chiefs. A truck that rare and in that good of shape should be clay bar'd and have the interior cleaned up. Then paint the rear bumper and fix the front end. Then leave it alone.
  23. I LOVE Franco American Spaghetti. I havent had that in years. Are you complaining or bragging? :rotf:
  24. That thing has been in there for a long long time.
  25. I hope you don't mind advice on a JK even though you didnt ask for it. I bought one in 2009. It is not my daily driver. I have an old tahoe for that. But it gets more miles than the MJ does. It has been my experience that the Rubicon by far offers the most for your money. Many serious off-roaders will argue you will get a better vehicle if you build it yourself. True but not for the price difference. Many that never off road will argue you will never need the Rubi ability. You will want to take it off road sometimes. Plus the 4.10 gearing comes in very handy all the time. The real value in the Rubi is that it doesnt depreciate. Go to kbb.com and check out a used one. Out of the box, you will get F&R d44 w/4.10 gearing, F&R lockers, a better transfer case, better springs that provide a small lift, over size tires and wheels. When the time comes to sell it, you will get most of that back. Plus, on the 4-door JK, it looks a bit out of scale but the tires & rims seem to be exceptionally small on 4 door. The rubicon tires and wheels seem to fix that. Also, a 2" Tera Flex lift can help too and she wil never know you did it. AND WHAT SHE DOESNT KNOW won't HURT HER. :rotf:
