Stock height (or close to) leaf springs.
GrizzzzBear replied to Psveritas's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am a Big Supporter of the LOCAL Shops, to get the Larger and Heavier parts. While there are several places, that may "Specialize" in parts. In my effort to save the cash, I had contacted a Local Spring shop, to get a price quote. They told me, Straight out, they had the Factory Specs, and could make what I needed and any changes I wanted to make (Lift Adjustments), would Not be an Issue. I had asked for 1 ton Springs, with an additional 2" Lift, and got their Quote of $500. Was told that included new bushings and Axle Bolts. I feel that it is very reasonable. Plus to be Supporting my Local economy. Not to mention their Warranty, and Business Reputation. -
Just checked car-parts.com, for myself (so I can have an extra set) Here is what I got. A bunch of Canadian yards, and a few US yards. Prices shown are very reasonable.

super "low" miles 88
GrizzzzBear replied to Pete M's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I have read through this whole thread, along with the ad, and Laughed at the Floor and Underbody rot. The paint Sucks. Plain as Day. Why the Red switch on the Dash?? Really??? A Pioneer Radio??? Personal choice. The CarFax is a Good Read. Original Owner sold it with over 100K miles in '05!! Last entry has over 150K. I really laughed. I knew a High School Auto Body Shop Teacher, who would come back to Beat & Slaughter the Flunky who put this P.O.S. together. Nevermind what he would have done to the Painter. Satan's Lake of Fire would be a Leisure Vacation, after Mr. B got done with him. Whoever Owns and Wrote the Listing, is Absolutely a Criminal. And I know, there were Laws in NJ regarding Auto Sales Fraud. I found some information from a NJ Lawyers website....https://www.njconsumerlawyer.com/auto-fraud.html -

Another Lift Kit Assembly Dummy

How Radical are you wanting to get? While there are parts available for a 2wd Lift, Would you want to switch over to a 4wd set-up?? Start looking at different companies, at what they have to offer. Compile a List of the Parts that you Will Need (Springs, Shocks, Brake Lines, etc.,) 6" Lift in the Rear, may be as easy as a SUA(Spring Under Axle) to a SOA(Spring Over Axle) Swap. Just Remember that you will need to get New Spring Perches welded to the axle. and figure where you want the Shocks to Mount. Some may say "Use an Add-a-Leaf to get Rear Lift", I would say to get New Springs at a Local Spring Shop, one that knows & understands what you are doing. On a quick check, I did find a few places that have the parts listed for a 2wd Lift. I don't know much about those, I have 4WD, and pieced my lift "kit" the way I described. Just Do the Research and figuring Before you commit to start getting the Parts. Good Luck. -
Broken leaf spring...Standard longbed 4.0 1987
GrizzzzBear replied to DC3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just contacted a Local Spring Shop. Saved the Shipping, Great product, and kept the cash in the Local economy. Just so you know, I went with the Metric Ton set, was like $100 more for them. Add on: as requested. When I contacted the Local Spring Shop, They were very thorough with getting me what I wanted. Be it Standard Specs, or Lifted. They Assured me, They have the Capabilities to do, what I was looking for. As I knew I was going to be adding some Lift Height, I opted for what I calculated, to be what I wanted to do. Yes, I got the Metric Ton Springs, with an Added 3" of Lift. -
I just got mine from NAPA, Stock Muffler & Tailpipe, for less than $80. The last I had was Walker and that was about 13 years ago. I have a Glasspack, somewhere in the Garage, but can't remember where. Besides, don't care much about the sounds. I just checked, if you need the Whole Exhaust, Front Pipe, Cat., Muffler & Tail Pipe, should be about $300. at NAPA.

While everyone has their own opinion, they are entitled to share it when asked. However, before I did my lift, I looked to see what was available, for what I wanted to achieve. Did the Research, and my own comparisons. What I have, on my MJ now, Is what I wanted, at that time. Got the parts to do the lift, from several sources. Once I had everything together, I installed everything. Final result, 5" lift, 32" tires on Stock 8" 6-spoke Jeep wheels. Had a Wobble issue, until I had Alignment done. So, Do what you want, Just be Sure to Do Your OWN Checking, to get the Results that you want.

Where to Mount Air Tank at??
GrizzzzBear replied to GrizzzzBear's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Already have the Carry along thing. I'm looking for a Permanent Mounted Set-up. Want to get my Air Horns Set & Working. Want to get the Compressor under the hood, and the Tank Somewhere protected somewhat. Not afraid of running Metal likes. -
Have a Spring Shop locally, For the Rear, will add the arch to the Spring Pak, and a Block. From what I have calculated, Should be an Arch adding about 2 inches, and a 1 inch Block. Or may go with a longer Shackle. Have to talk to the Shop. Have Most of the Rusty's parts for the Front. Need Shocks, Brake Lines, and Spacers yet. Want to get 35 or 37 x 15 Tires. But I want to get a Glasstite Cap More.
-
I am Trying to get to the Next Step of My Project. Need to find out about the Glasstite Cap. Have most of 10" Long Arm Lift. After that comes 35 or 37 Donuts on a Widened Stock 6 Spoke Wheel, Chrome Center Caps. Still have Lund Visor, Bug Shield, Fog/Driving Lights (Replaced Bulbs with 130W), 2nd set Driving lights, Door Vent Windows, and a few other parts to get back on. Getting the replacement Bed Sides from Z&M Jeeps LTD. And see where to get the Steel Wheel Well for the Bed. Have Done: 5" Lift on the Front, SOA to the Rear, made new Lower Shock Mounting Plates for the Rear. Bucket Seats, Headlight Rewire (added a Relayed Harness), added lights inside (cab & bed), and a bunch of removing the butcher work from p.o. pics were about 5 years ago.
-
Does Anybody know....... Did Glasstite ever make a Cap, similar to those pictured?? I Really like these, and have had No Reply from Glasstite in this matter. If they didn't, Would any others fit??

Right Now, 20 February 2020, there are a number of them on evilbay, listed at Over $500 each!!!!!

Where to Mount Air Tank at??

True, I have a Cap and use the bed for all kinds of stuff. Lights are mounted on Ceiling and under Bed Rails, for night use. Plus, I use the full bed when we go Camping. -
Hey Gang, I'm looking to put an Air Tank & Compressor on my ride. Trying to figure out where to put it. Have a basic Stock MJ, Carry the Spare underneath. Was thinking of a Thinner Tank, on the Passenger side, above the Exhaust, tucked into the frame, close as I can. Just wanted to know, where others have theirs.

coilover shocks for mj
GrizzzzBear replied to Jeff's Jeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I went through the same Issues, when I was looking for Shocks. I have a SOA swap, so with a Customized Shock Mount Plate, the Shock Mounts wound up in the Stock Location, Stock Height. After an exhausting search, and a few trips to the Local A/P Store, I got what I wanted. Armed with the Tech Specs is the best way to go. I have seen them tossed in a few times here. Sorry, I Hate Monroe Shocks. Bad Experiences. I Prefer Gabriel, and contacted them for help too. Finally got what I wanted, Ordered 3 sets. -
Door Speakers are 5-1/4" diameter. Behind the Seats, on the Wall are 4"x6" Your choice, How Good do you want, Wattage Capabilities, Range for Sound Response. What Head Unit do you have?? Output Capabilities?? I would think about Replacing All at the same time. (What I did) Confused?? I went to a Car Stereo Shop ( when they were a Specialized Business )

92 comanche rear bumper
GrizzzzBear replied to Codybelec's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I really like the Name in the Bumper, just would prefer to have it on the Front Bumper. Have mine designed for the rear, with the license plate in the middle. Very similar to the Factory Bumper. Add a Custom Reese Style Receiver Hitch (Railroad Coupler in Receiver)- 6 replies
