Bigger trails need bigger parts, and have a greater chance of breakage. While my comanche technically is "street legal" ;) , i prefer to tow it to and from the trails, in case something breaks, and its not built for street comfort anymore; now its built for trail capability. also, the tires would be worn very quickly if i drove it to and from each trail, instead of trailering it. I can still drive it to work, or to the store if i need to, but i have my daily for that.

thats how pretty much all those 'mega trucks' are these days. custom chassis, fully custom built drivetrain, race-level everything, with a cab and bed slapped onto it i dig it, but i wouldnt build it.

Renix cooling issues
johnny quest replied to johnny quest's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
awesome write-up. and pretty much exactly what I have in mind. although i would add an inline radiator cap as well. any idea if the 'B to C' loop will work? -
to start off: i'm not looking to swap out the radiator right now. i know the closed system can work, and I'm thinking i can do this for a fraction of the cost. this is where i'm at. this is not working. I eliminated the heater core entirely, as you can see in the pictures. i know this is not the correct setup, but I'm trying to figure out what is. My idea is to insert a radiator cap into the upper radiator hose (A) something like this: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/555/555-53098.jpg and run a line to a new coolant reservoir off the aux nipple. then, run lines B and C into each other, thus eliminating the heater core loop. however, i believe there needs to be a restriction point somewhere to force the coolant into the radiator, but I'm not sure where this needs to be. my plan is to put in a ball valve that i can fine tune to the right amount of flow, but the location is whats in question.

i like it. and i kinda wish i had done that, especially after looking at how they ran the tube bumper along that line.

I don't have a link to that. but its super simple. i went straight across at that rear body line, but the diagonal cut looks real sharp as well.

Western Massachusetts. HUGE change. But even my wife can't figure out how I lived in New England for 25 years, but seem like more of a Utah guy haha. have you been out to Colorado at all? have you spent any time there? I'm a firm believer that anywhere can seen like a cool place to live when youre there on vacation, but to actually more there and live there day in and day out is completely different that a quick visit. (not sure if this has already been answered).

i made the jump from MA to UT about 6 years back. Dead end job, dead end relationship, life wasnt bad, but wasnt going anywhere. I moved out with some buddies from college, which helped IMMENSELY. We lived in a ski town; work hard, play harder attitude. Pretty carefree life. Then i met this chick, neither of us wanted a serious relationship... fast forward to today: we've been married just over a year, bought a house 2.5 years ago. great group of friends, almost ALL of which are due to wheeling, (seriously 95%). what I'm trying to say is: do it. move. pack up and go. i still keep in contact with my friends and family on the east coast; we're actually visiting there in 3 weeks. but they also visit us out here. you don't have to completely cut ties with where youre from, but new chapters are good.

Need help, with lift plan
johnny quest replied to 1st time jeeper's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
depends on the kit your looking at, and the use of the truck. also, you might want to put this in general chit-chat or in the technical section to get more views and responses  -
Any engine swap that even slightly increases the HP should come with a plated frame. Even a stroker inline6, depending on the use of the truck.

a stock 5.3 is about 100-150 lbs lighter than a 4.0, and with stock internals, can put out 1300+ hp with a twin turbo setup......just sayin. shorter block means it can be set back just a little bit further, and if you feel like cutting into the firewall, it can be set back even more... :brows:
