Part-Time light on / gear lever in RWD
Pete M replied to Cali Cruse's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
your front axle has a 2-part passenger side axle shaft. It's a silly gimmick that Jeep used back in the day in a futile attempt to gain mpgs (it doesn't save any calculable amount of gas). what it did do was provide a very common failure point for us 30 years down the road. when you pull the 4wd shift handle, in addition to shifting the t-case into 4wd mode, it sends vacuum down a line to the front axle that engages the CAD up front that pushes over a collar that makes the 2-piece shaft into one. It is common practice to bypass the CAD by engaging the collar all the time. this does not mean you're in 4wd all the time, but rather it means that your Jeep will be like all Jeeps after like '92 when Jeep got rid of the CAD and went with a traditional 1-piece shaft. Your 4wd shift handle still controls 2wd-4wd-lowrange. there should be a writeup or 2 in the link in my signature for a couple of the ways you can bypass the CAD and fix the lack 'o 4wd. -
I haven't yet gotten to modifying my own headrestless bench into having headrests (using the back frame from a later seat) so while I want to say grab the whole back frame, I'm not yet 100% that it'll bolt to earlier benches. not yet at least. maybe when I get back from florida.

have you bypassed your CAD yet? -

saw another truck creation online today and decided to start a new thread. what have you guys found out there in internetland that seems more or less like it came out of junkyard wars or the mad max movies?

https://www.jwjeep.com/ has a ton of them listed for $50 a side. they are located in california so the leafs should be non-rusty and you might be able to use your forwarder. car-part.com can find you others too. just be sure that you see a photo of them first so you don't get stuck with a northern rusty set. out of curiosity, what has gone wrong with the current set?

I've seen Jeeps nose dive into water that was deeper than expected. I imagine it does a good job at combating that.

Lime garage, Disney Springs. that'll get you to parking. from there you're going to Jock Lindsey's Hanger Bar. Google will know what they are. no need for addresses these days.

love it! quick question though, is it me or does the bed seem... off just a bit? eh, it's probably just the photo that makes it look like the gap at the bottom is larger than at the top. -
nice score! looks like a solid platform to build. the link in my sig has several swap threads that will help out choosing years and such.

is it the same whistling? mine is the whistle created by the throttle body. I've got no desire to make the thing even worse.
-
also keep in mind that the truck is 3 decades old. at this point the mileage has taken a backseat to age when it comes to needing work and repairs. All the rubber and plastic bits in particular may need attention. 7 grand is a lot of coin and it better be in fantastic shape. I'd be curious as to why didn't they clean the engine bay before asking top dollar? I believe someone said that the giant phone thing is a CB. Either way it's pretty sweet.

what do you want out of the truck once you own it? taking it to shows? daily driver? monster truck? rust can creep into any MJ. bring a chunk of cardboard and be prepared to crawl underneath and poke a flashlight into every nook and crevice of the frame and body. Especially inside the bedsides in front and behind the tires. reach up under the dash and feel under the carpet for any moisture. both sides. I don't care how low the mileage is, rust free is the only thing I'm ever after for that kind of coin.

be sure to share some pics once it's all installed.

is there any updated resistor pack fo the blower motor?
Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it doesn't have to be a leak. it can just be the humidity in the air. the pack is just there, hanging out in the duct work. trying to stay cool and all. edit, on a side note, those resistors get hot enough to set paper on fire. -
I get the feeling this will likely quickly morph to a thread about other peoples' rigs, but I figured I'd start out with one on my own truck... my custom filter intake. holy crap, does the whistling never end!? At the exact throttle opening that maintains speed on the freeway it makes a strong whistle. very strong. I hate it. Also the K+N filter sucks. Also the engine is just sucking hot engine compartment air. Also the hood crushed the original filter a bit. Just an overall bad mod and I intend to convert to a filter in the cowl.

my head is spinning just thinking about that shipping bill. do you have junkyards on Guam? are your main leafs in decent shape? if yes to both you should be able to make your own packs from locally available items.

corrosion resistance would be sweet. -
I was thinking on arriving around 5pm to see what's up at the restaurant. I want to be early enough to reserve a great table or even change plans if necessary. chances are good I'll have already been at Disney Springs a couple hours by that time.
