I have great admiration for anyone that swaps a pump with the tank still in the truck. it is challenging enough with the tank sitting on the pavement. I think I'll do a writeup on this whole stupid experience.

AI may or may not be our eventual downfall, but this isn't an artificial intelligence. it's a fancy photoshop.

the plugs require an 8mm square tool. if you're careful, you can grind down an old 3/8" socket extension to make one. do not open the drain until you know for sure that you can open the fill.

hmmm, I wonder if 2wd vs 4wd came into play here. I've got an 88 column shift 2wd here that has the straight bench.

it was indeed sitting on the bottom of the tank and causing the squeal. but the reason it was sitting at the bottom of the tank is that the product I bought has no method of firmly securing the pump. literally the sock at the bottom was what held it in place. and I didn't notice this now blatantly obvious issue. thankfully I'm still in my window for returns.

guess I gotta pull it and see. it's an aftermarket tank, so it doesn't have the little spot at the bottom that holds the assembly.

the plot thickens. if I pull the return hose off the pump assembly and dump it straight into a gas can, there's no squealing. put it back on and the squealing comes back. I'm very confused.

thank god I was too tired to drive over to the gas station and fill it up yesterday.

more info. it's not the pump, it's the seal of the assembly to the tank. I can wiggle it with my hand and change the pitch of the noise. guess I gotta pull it out and swap out the seal. why can't fixed things stay fixed?

on day 2 of driving the truck around the block she's developed a fairly loud whistling-esque noise coming from under the back of the truck that's consistent no matter the rpms. 2 steps forward, one step back...

interesting. what do you have for a center console?

the bench notch goes with manual transmission trucks. I gotta dig up my dealership brochures...

I had a bad combo valve (the thing up front that looks like a prop valve) cause me to lose years off my life. it moved for bleeding the rear and the shuttle refused to go back and I couldn't bleed the fronts.

engine off = firm pedal + engine on = pedal goes to the floor was a bad booster on my 88.

fun fact: if you get ahead of yourself with a fuel tank install and fire up the engine on a 2wd auto without the rear shaft installed, trans fluid will piddle out the back.

easy come, easy go. apparently a pipe burst and flooded a bunch of his house on sunday and the shipping box soaked all day and the poster more or less disintegrated in its tube. I'm trying to get my hands on his original pics. I might need some photoshop help to get a usable image for printing. this blows.
