that's a lot of money for something so far from home. Especially for a trail rig. For that much you should be able to find one with the lift/gears/tires already done. I'd hold out for something better/closer/cheaper. Jeep on! --Pete P.S. I didn't need another project either (being broke and all), but I still ended up buying a $300 rust bucket and have plans to install a new trans/t-case(242)/axles(4.10s) and install a 3" lift/31s to make my new daily driver (currently borrowing my mom's car). I figure I should be able to sell off the removed parts and pay for most of the new stuff. Don't think of it as "another project", but rather a couple weekends worth of work and then it's done. :D

If a tranny swap is out of the question, I personally would pass on it (unless it's a great deal), but then I have no inhibitions about throwing in a new trans (only done it once in my life so far). But then it *could* run just fine for you. There are a lot of then still out there. Don't forget that you WILL want new gears for those 32" tires. Manual tranny + 3.07 ratio gears + 32" tires = suckiness. What circumstances are causing you to avoid the swap? 87-89 can be great trucks if you throw in a newer trans. Jeep on! --Pete

Same here. Itty-bitty 'joints and the pull-your-part yard by me has never ever had a YJ, let alone a 95 YJ. Lots of XJs though. Not that it matters much to me personally just yet. My 88 has Ford axles, the 86 has been in 4wd only once since I bought it, and the 90 isn't any where near ready for the road. But rest assured that the 90 will have the conversion eventually. Check out the "Introduce your Comanche..." post in the tech forum or the "Various Comanches" post in this forum. Lots of pics in them. Jeep on! --Pete

Buckets feel more comfortable to some. They certainly hold your butt in place better. But there are those who like the bench too. Jeep on! --Pete

I swear I can sense an MJ before I can see it. But I guess that doesn't help at all if there aren't any nearby. They are out there though, keep your eyes pealed! :D Jeep on! --Pete

I tried a pair of CJ mirrors once, but thought they looked too big. Like elephant ears. I eventually went with a smaller generic curved mirror. Jeep on! --Pete This is the CJ mirror: And this is the mirror I went with, but I used a CJ mirror arm. Sorry, I don't have pics of the finished product yet.

d30 4.10 with 33s and other upgrades to lift an mj?
Pete M replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At the very least, upgrade your axleshafts and front driveshaft. The 3.4 might be a good match for 4.10s, but 4.56 or 4.88s would be better. It depends on your budget. Jeep on! --Pete -
cab swappin/donor vehicle for parts?
Pete M replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, 3.4L. You can even get a brand new crate 3.4 from GM. Add that, plus some better gearing, and you'll have more than enough grunt to put a smlie on your face. :D Don't forget to upgrade the front axleshafts/ujoints and front driveshaft (86s in particular suffer from a weak front driveshaft). All can be had from the junkyard. http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/x ... 4swap.html Jeep on! --Pete -
???? The airbag is ingenious. It's simple, powerful, and is used extensively in big rigs. The new thing in offroad recovery is a big fat orange airbag that uses your exhaust to lift up the truck. I think it's an ARB product. Jeep on! --Pete

cab swappin/donor vehicle for parts?
Pete M replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's infinitely easier to swap a new drivertrain into the 86. And no, the 4.0L isn't the best cadidate. Jeep on! --Pete -
The fact that the wheels have adapters or that the leafs are different, doesn't necessarily negate that it was made by Jeep. I doubt that the kit was installed on the line, but it certainly could have been an outside job. There's just too much we don't know about the early years. Jeep on! --Pete

That was my first thought too, but the angles are a little different. Protofab is the closest yet:

Any ideas? The image is from Bushwacker's site.

I didn't see him give us a price for the system, but that would have been nice in my 86 when we were hauling dirt and mulch to the house. :D Probably costs more than my truck did. Jeep on! --Pete

Not the first dually MJ I've seen online.

This guy says he has one. Jeep on! --Pete http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-JEEP-COMANCHE-4X4_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6286QQitemZ4618943135QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ebayphotohosting

They are essentially (if not literally) the same as the 91s. Jeep on! --Pete

Mine was fine for like 3 days and then the pressure just dropped off the gauge while on my way to a wheeling trip. It would partially come back if I revved the engine, so if yours doesn't show anything at all, then it might not be that. I mention this because a filter is real cheap and I changed a whole lot of things before I learned it might be the filter. Jeep on! --Pete

harborfreight.com will have one of the super-cheap benders, but I'd never use that on a rollbar. It might work on your other projects though. I used 2" x .120" wall tubing, but many guys seem to use the 1.75" or 1.5" stuff. I'll probably use 1.5" for the rest of my cage when I get around to it. For the small amount of bending I needed, it was worthwhile to seek out someone who already owned a bender. Jeep on! --Pete

I had a sudden drop to 0psi that turned out to be a failed Fram oil filter. Jeep on! --Pete

You need new shafts to run the larger joints and rumor has it that the 95 (maybe 94 too) YJ has a CAD front axle with the larger joints. You can go junkyard or buy new ones in the aftermarket. I've heard lots of opinions that front Lockrights handle just fine with the non-CAD axles, but I guess having it open is even better. Jeep on! --Pete
-
At the trade off of the smaller joints? Or were you swapping in 95 YJ shafts? Have you tried car-part.com yet? Jeep on! --Pete

What years axle are you looking for? Just any ol' 3.55, or an XJ one with the big joints and non-CAD? Jeep on! --Pete

Yup, Dana 44. Although your proportioning valve linkage is out of whack there. Looks like the 5-leaf pack so it seems you bought a metric ton MJ. Jeep on! --Pete
