Um, maybe this is a question that you should ask on the yahoo group? :roll:

I've thought about a bar in that location (seen pics of 2 MJs that had gotten pinched in by trees at the exact spot) but I was going to go straight down from the halo to the rocker guards, meaning that most of the bar was hidden behind the sheetmetal and nothing can snag the trees. It was part of the next stage for protecting the rear. It's hard to see in the pics above, but there's a support gusset at the rear that ties into the rollbar to help keep the halo up. Since much of the work will be done on campus, it will most likely be done in steps. I haven't ironed out all the details quite yet. :roll: and I can only imagine how much weight this will add to my already heavy truck. :D There has to be a balance between too much and not enough.

I'll preface this off with why I'm contemplating this at all since my wheeling style tends to be more on the cautious side. I've seen more than one Jeep that did a light roll or a mild impact into a tree when the driver wasn't doing anything that could be considered dangerous. I don't fear sheetmetal damage, but with a roll the A-pillar deforms and the Jeep is suddenly either a total write-off or a convertible candidate. I really like keeping the rain/snow out, so I'd like to provide some protection for my roof structure. But I love the look of a stock MJ and have no desire to cover it all up with a jungle gym. Any dashed lines you see are bars that will be hidden behind the sheetmetal. It'll be more work that way, but I recently learned that I have access to all the tools at school, so I'll be doing all the work myself (except for maybe the final welding). Oh, and for anyone that doesn't know, my current rollbar and rockerguards and very strong and very securely attached to the frame. So anyway, here is the basic cage. Just a simple hoop (tied back to the rollbar) and A-pillars (which are tied into the rocker guards). But then I thought about protecting the front. The outer sheetmetal is easy enough to replace, but the inner stuff really isn't. As a plus, this would help give considerable strength to the A-pillars. The front down bars will be exposed and bolted to the bumper. But I realized that there wasn't enough triangulation, so I added gussets and diagonals. The diagonals on the roof will line up with the down bars of the rollbar. So when all is said and done, you'll only see this: I also have plans for steel fender flares, but that's a topic for another day.

I bought a complete trans, so I don't have a list of necessary parts, but the 4x4 shifter assembly and tranny mount was different between the two Jeeps. Aslo, I mated the stock MJ master cylinder line to the TJ slave cylinder line with a simple compression fitting from the hardware store. Saved me from trying to retrofit the later model master.

In my opinion, a 2" or 3" AAL is superior to a 9" shackle.

But the choice isn't between "I love all bars" and " I hate any bars". At least I don't think it is. :? The choice is between "no bar", "this bar", or "that bar". Still plenty of time and people left to vote.

I thought about that and eventually went with hood pins because I couldn't figure out an easy way to make the Jeep ones work. They hold "down" and our hoods sit flush with the fenders. Jeep on! --Pete

Ok, I've been contemplating the color have come to the conclusion that having the most-eye-catching-color-possible might not be as important as I originally thought. So I'm letting y'all pick which one you'd like. These are the best colors I've been able to coax from 'Paint'. (As before, just ignore the "quality" of these pics, due to the aforementioned Jpeg isssues). I'll let this poll run till Sunday and then Monday morning I'm paying a visit to the graphics guy. Although, if enough people choose the last option... I'll start a whole different poll for whether or not we should have a rollbar.

I'm guessing 3"? I love that color! I can't read a lick of the webpage though. How much is the seller asking?

I've recently found out that I have access to the welders at school, so I have all sorts of little projects that should come to fruition this summer. :D

It's been said that there's no point in rebuilding an AW-4. They seem to last forever and take any abuse, but if it does fail, they are still pretty cheap in the junkyards. As long as the junkyard one isn't already dead, it should just need new fluid. Jeep on! --Pete

I lopped off about the same (not as neatly though) and still managed to mangle the sheetmetal on something (you can see the dent right in front of the bumper). I added a piece of sheetmetal underneath to keep debris from going up inside the bed sides. Later on I plan to add some armor to the area. Jeep on! --Pete

I ripped out my headliner and lined the roof with a sheet of automotive foam (and then speakerbox carpet so it looks nice). Gained a couple more headroom inches for my 6' frame. Jep on! --Pete
