  1. On one hand it's just an ordinary Jeep front axle. There are millions of them out there. We see them every day. But on the other hand, it's probably the best light-duty front axle ever (especially the later models that got the bigger U-joints). Other small rigs got stuck with IFS or low-pinion axles. AMC was kind enough to give us a high-pinion solid front axle. It'll take on 33" tires (if you aren't stupid with the skinny pedal).
  2. Not exactly. But anything with a turbo attached has potential. :brows:
  3. Wait, I lied. My brackets were bent at a shop. But your design can be different. Then I built a clevis mount to go in the hitch.
  4. Build one. Seriously. :D Mine was simple 3x5 rect tube steel (3/16" wall) and I designed and fabbed it with nothing more than an electric die grinder and a drill. Then I took it to a pro to have it welded up proper.
  5. Anyone else having trouble signing in? It won't take my password and it won't recognize my email addy to send me the password. :(
  6. But it also says 80-81 and that's not what you have. That part is for the carbed CJs I believe. Looks sorta like the E-box in my buddy's old bronco with the carbed engine.
  7. I see rear bumpers on their site, but nothing else for MJs or XJs. :dunno:
  8. Some people like Jeepco for instance.... :D
  9. Nothing wrong with using flat leafs for the SOA (as long as they aren't falling apart due to rust). The original leafs I went with pretty much shot (actually, they were very shot), but with the addition of the MJ main AAL, they've held up fine and have given me several years of problem-free wheeling. I'm only replacing them due to rampant rust that is weakening them (don't really want to experience a break on the trail far from home). The replacements are 2wd MJ leafs with an Explorer main as the AAL. I can tell that I've got a couple inches of lift over the old set, but the truck isn't at full ride weight so I'm ignoring it for now.
  10. I'm sure there are some people in this world that would very much like to know where that diesel MJ is. Some of those engine parts can be hard to come by. :brows:
  11. Stupid Lions gotta go and look halfway decent in the pre games. :D But they've done that before and still found a way to bring on the suck in the regular season. :brows:
  12. Yeah, diesels are awesome. :D So after much contemplation during the 24 hours I just spent on the freeway this weekend watching other people's haulers go by the minivan, I've decide that (since I can't do this immediately anyway) my list is: 1-Excursion 2-Suburban 3-F-350 Based on a 10-12 grand purchase price. I've decided that I like having the interior space. Essentially I'd be looking to get a bigger and much badder version of the minivans I'm so used to. Anyone know if the back floor of the Excursions and Subs is relatively flat if I pull out the seats? And how easy to said seats remove? I'm used to minivans and this current gen has seats that disappear right into the floor. No lifting required. :D
  13. I'm just sayin', don't fret too much about how it sits if you're not finished adding weight.
  14. All my MJs have a "textured" look from years of touch-ups and cover-ups with various brands and shades of spray paint. :D All yours needs is a choice of color (which you seem to have) and it'll look the same.
  15. Spewing oil isn't necessarily a ring issue. But either way we're going to need some pictures. :D
  16. All newer Jeeps have the front axle locked all the time. That alone shouldn't cause your issue. But unlocking the CAD would make the issue go away since now the front driveshaft can turn and the power can't get to the wheels. I still think the t-case has a problem. With the t-case in 2wd and the front axle unlocked, can you rotate the front driveshaft by hand? What about if the t-case is in neutral?
  17. Is your spare tire in there yet? Are you truly finished adding weight to her?
  18. Original and very tired 200k engine, big fat 33" tires that stick out due to the fullsize Ford axles, 5" of lift, and the truck weighs over 2 tons.
  19. Well, get them on it. :D I get better fuel economy towing the truck than driving the truck.
  20. Questions should really be put into the "Tech" forum. That way everyone can see them and it'll be easier for searches in the future.
  21. 60"? Are you sure that's not for a 2wd model? A stock 4wd shortbed is around 44".
  22. I thought I read somewhere that 92+ XJs with ABS had the bigger joints.
  23. Too long. The longbed has 6" more driveshaft length. But, it'd be a good candidate for taking to a shop and getting it shortened to the proper length. If you've got an 4.0L/auto, you can get a driveshaft from a 4.0L/stick and get one more inch of driveshaft length. And please see Rule #2 http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1239
  24. Ok, I'm intrigued. So what precisely is your plan for getting my 88 up to 15 mpg? :brows: And are you willing to bump that timeline up to, say, next year?
  25. Or you could hunt down and build up a front axle, then swap it in at the same time you get the rear done the rear. Depends on how valuable 4wd is to you I guess. Also, a lot of shops will offer a discount on the gear-swap work if you can bring in the axle separate from the Jeep, rather than occupying a money-making bay with your truck. Plus the work is easier on a bench than under a truck.
