If the throttle body is to remain on the vehicle during cleaning, use an o2-sensor-safe throttle body cleaner to clean it. The old carb cleaners can hurt the o2 sensor.
But it's sooooooo easy. :brows: Admittedly, changing the idler pulley on the MJ is probably a lot quicker than changing it on the minivan. (Stupid sideways engine)
Also, I've found that a bar of soap works better than belt dressing (and is a heck of a lot cheaper).
Yeah, I'm sure the entire neighborhood heard it. :teehee:
Installed the new spark plugs and cleaned up inside the distributor cap again. Seems to idle a bit better now. Still backfires if you goose the gas too hard. Maybe next year I'll have the finds to give her the tuneup she deserves.
Truck is on hold for a couple more days, then I can attack the brake problem. Aside from the fact that I can't stop, she seems ready enough for some local wheeling.
I knew it'd be an easy fix. Just had to figure out the rats nest of wires. Turns out it was just corrosion in the wire feeding juice to the coil. Rewired it and now she still sucks, but not as much as before. :D Still backfires and still coughs and sputters if you give it too much gas too fast. But at least she runs again enough to putter across the street and around the parking lot (gotta move my trucks once a month to please the local code enforcer). I'm going to finish installing the new spark plugs to see if it makes any difference.
Yup, 24 hours of driving for the round trip and we'll be there for 2 whole days. Yippee. But I'm just tagging along with my parents so at least I'm not paying for the diesel. :brows:
But it is a big weekend for me, as I'll get to see my newest MJ for the first time. :D
Meeting will likely be tough unless you can come to me.
Absolutely. If you don't fix the root cause, you haven't fixed the problem.
Although, with 2 of my trucks, I'm just going to rip out the carpet, fix the floor as best I can, then line it with hurculiner, and then not reinstall the carpet.
The main ECU will probably be fine, but I've read that you'll need to address the pilot bearing/bushing. I forget who did that recently (I think they installed an engine that used to have anu auto behind it into a manual equipped truck), but they eventually needed to make a custom one (or alter a stock bushing or something along those lines)
Trades? Will that even matter? I've lost both of my un-tradeables to injuries. Ya know, the guys that are so good that the team restricts them to their starter team? I think my team is cursed. Maybe I shouldn't have put "Lions" in the name. :teehee:
