Yeah, I don't really want to get the authorities involved if I don't have to. But I also want to take care of this in a proper manner. Looks like I'll be calling a few numbers to get some info on what landfills near me will take contaminated soil and how much that costs.

I believe the bed of the MJ is wider than the rear of an XJ.

Make sure you use a cleaner that's o2 sensor safe. Some carb cleaners aren't.

Have you cleaned the throttle body area yet?

Worked for the previous owner right? Not exactly. As I understand it, if the EPA gets involved in stuff like this they will track him down for the fines and costs. I'm willing to put some labor into this, but I'm not spending a dime on this cleanup if it comes to that. Don't know how much oil is there. This pile looks like it had been collecting for a while now. Just a rough guess, but there are probably two or three 50 gal drums worth of contaminated soil. I can only guess that the oil is just from the filters. He could have been dumping it too. Could be far worse under there. :( It's a huge mess. I wonder what else might be lurking in the leaf litter... :shake:

Absolutely you should keep it from the junkyard's grasp, but some of us live in places where good condition bodies are few and far between and figure each one should be cherished. :(

So, let's say hypothetically that I was to find a few oil filters in a pile in the woods on my parent's property. And by few, I mean a few dozen. And by in the woods, I mean 5 feet past the first bushes right next to the kid tree house. And by hypothetically, I mean I just filled up a tub with the nasty things and there's a heap of contaminated soil and god knows what else left. What would you do? :mad:

What exactly does the truck do? Does the starter relay click? What condition are the battery cables in?

I don't. :yes: But I still haven't gotten used to the new color. I've generally referred to my trucks by color, and I haven't quite broken the habit of calling it; "the red truck".

Man, I had dreams of coming down to Georgia and wearing shorts while watching my brother in law huddled in a winter jacket. But this morning was in the low teens. (that's in town. It might have been even colder out here in the country.) Even for me, that's cold. Heck, right now it's only 25* out. Granted, that didn't stop me from taking the dogs for a walk (no gloves and I only had a hoodie for a coat) so I guess living up north toughens ya up a bit. :D

Bah humbug. I used to take my 2wd MJ (pippin' the monster 30" BFG ATs) any chance I got. I used to wake up early so I could hit the streets before the plows. And I once used thick rope and made tire "chains" for it when I was up at scout camp. she was a real champ for being a lowly a 2wd. :D (I did have a shovel handy :thumbsup: )
