  1. Jeep put 7 different amp ratings and a total of 10 different alternator part numbers into 1988 MJs alone.

  4. did you leave a club card under the wiper? :brows:
  5. it's a good engineering rule of thumb to assume that water will get everywhere and plan accordingly to deal with it. plus that foam stuff attracts moisture and accelerates rot. :( ask my 88 about that. :fs1:
  6. boy that brings back some memories. back in the days of the yahoo site, I would try to type every response in word because ya never knew when yahoo would eat your email. :(
  7. take the elevator of course. :D
  8. I guess sometimes a fishing trip turns into a whale watching trip.
  9. try a long screwdriver.
  10. have you tried a mechanics stethoscope to narrow down the source of the noise? or the poor mans versions, a long screwdriver or a length of tube?
  11. take careful note of the mounting hole locations of your alternator (i.e. what O'clock location the mounting tabs are at) before you go to the junkyard. or better yet, take the old alt with you. there are more than one type used in our old Jeeps.
  12. drop brackets are exactly what they sound like. they are brackets that drop down the mounting points of your control arms so that the arms are closer to parallel to the ground. the steeper the control arm angle, the harsher your ride will be. there are several companies that sell them.
  13. d'oh! I knew that. I swear. :D
  14. got my ram today. I gave up trying to get a pair of gig cards and went with 514s instead. cheaper and I'm not entirely certain my old computer could even make good use of 2 gigs of ram anyhow. Threw one of them in the open slot and WOW what a difference. holy crap I should have done that YEARS ago. To anyone with a slow computer (assuming it hasn't been compromised in some way), do yourself a favor and check what your available ram is. mine was only 256. now I'm running an extra 514 on top of that and the 'puter no longer slows down when I try to do two things at once.
  15. sounds like a great excuse to get yourself a class 3 hitch. :D
  16. YJ lines up front, mid 90s Dakota for the rear. there are others that work, those are the ones I remember. finding a Dana 30 with 4.10s in it is usually cheaper than regearing.
  17. are you using a current version of firefox?
  18. firefox has a built-in spellchecker.
  19. hmmm..... with the big dana 60 up front and header interference, space will be a premium and you may not have much choice with what you run.

    New toy

blowby can be caused by bad rings, but our trucks are prone to blowby due to other reasons. All I'm saying is check before you go through all the effort to swap engines. it could just be a bad valve seals.
