  1. you will be pushing the limits of what you've got. If you do it, don't go fast. ever. and leave lots of distance between you and what ever is in front of you. basically, drive it like you're a danger to society, cause you very well may be.

    Hello All

it's that way on purpose. :D simpler is better. (it's just a side benefit that it's cheaper too)
  3. the book is wrong unless it says GL-3. There's some debate as to whether it as oiginally a typo, or Chrysler just plain got it wrong. Chrysler recently changed the requirement to the motor oil (I believe there are some aftermarket gear oil synthetics that still qualify). GL-5 will eat the synchros in an AX-15. of this there is no doubt.
  4. really? I read AX-15 last someone posted it. you wouldn't by chance have a link would ya?
  5. gotta shrink the file size then. but an easier way is to email me the full image and I'll take care of the rest. comancheclub@hotmail.com
  6. you're thinking of the AX-15. plain ol' GL-5 is still recommended for the AX-4 and AX-5.
  7. might just need the linkage adjusted. how rotted is the body in the shifter area?
  8. doesn't really matter. It's all good. be sure to measure how much comes out so you'll know if it was low or not. and keep an eye out for metal bits in the oil.
  9. don't need one. I've got a manual trans. :D and this is my parking brake:
  10. Explorers are 5 on 4.5 so don't bother with that. also, you will have a 31 spline big bearing. no need to wonder. the big question is roller bearings or tapered bearings, but that only matters if you're replacing the bearings or seals (which are integral with the bearings and the bearings are press-on and have to be done by a shop) I believe the guy that did mine used CJ front rotors and chevy cailpers, but not sure. here's a couple links for 9" disk conversions. http://fordfuelinjection.com/bronco/brakes.html http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229934 The rotors I have didn't fit perfect though. see the slop around each lug? the previous owner did nothing about it, but I couldn't accept it. So I went to the hardware store, found some small spacers (essentially a short tube with a specific inner and outer diameter) and sliced them to length so they fit around each lug. does a great job of keeping the rotor aligned and centered.
  11. you're thinking of the AX-15. the AX-4 takes plain ol' gear oil. check to make sure your fluid is up to snuff. my peugeot had a nasty habit of leaking out the back and it would act up when low.
  12. the more cylinders you have, then less likely it'll ever struggle at the low rpms. You'll have twice as many cylinders. It'll be fine. I'm just saying, don't spend any time or money on a 35. that's all.
  13. gearing is what you need to go faster. do you know what gear ratio is in your axle now? 4spd or 5spd transmission?
  14. so you want one of the rarest axles of all time, but you're not willing to pay a completely reasonable price for it. I think that's how you can tell you're a true Jeeper. We're such cheapskates. :rotf: actually it'll work very well with a grunty v8. It'll suck with a 2.5L. big difference there. I've got 3.92s in my Dakota and even when I was running the 31" tires (something like a 3.40 equivalent ratio) it never ever felt like a dog. how about this, try it, and if you don't like it with the v8, then spend your money on the change.
  15. a: I've shown you where a couple of amc-20s are  b: swapping from 3.73s to 4.10s just isn't worth the cost and effort. 3.73s will work just fine for ya. c: can't wait to hear that v8 roar.
  16. I've tried to get rid of it, but so far with no luck. :( still trying though. In the mean time, go directly to comancheclub.com/forums
  17. there's not much aftermarket support for the 8.25 either, doesn't make it a bad axle. awd is awesome. period. If one does not need or want awd, then the 231 works great too. It's win-win here. :D
  18. getting less mpgs is a myth. I've noticed no difference between 2wd and awd in our Libby. also, THERE'S STILL 2WD AVAILABLE!!! It's not a full-time case. And it has locked 4wd high-range too. It's got all of the above. :D Both t-case are going to last. we're just splitting hairs when it comes to longevity. yes, the 231 is "stronger", but it's not that much stronger. Both will do you fine.
  19. I would go out of my way to put in a 242. I like awd on the pavement. :D
  20. the 231 is rated for a bit more, but both t-cases will work great offroad.
  21. polls are broken. do you want to use 4wd on pavement? if yes, then 242.
  22. does this mean you're putting in a 2 story garage?
  23. why are you changing the exhaust? rust?
  24. my 86 had a leak up at the top of the windshield. the water was draining down inside the A pillar and dumping out onto the floor by the door. If hadn't had the A pillar trim removed, I might never have found that leak. :ack:
