I've been looking for a phrase that adequately described setting up gears... :D Another way to check (if possible since brakes sometime lock up in the junkyard) is to spin one of the axleshafts and count the number of times the yoke spins. If only one axle shaft turns, rotate it around twice. If both axle shafts turn in the same direction and at the same rate, turn the axle shaft once. If they spin in opposite directions, you're going to need to get one to stay still while you turn the other twice.

you don't have to do one to do the other. I just happened to do it all while I had the chance. :D and I didn't care if the valve worked or not. I wanted it and the rusty brake lines gone. fewer things to fail. try asking in the classifieds for the 44 bracket. :thumbsup:

I ditched the sensor. course I also completely redid the brake system at the same time, dual booster and all.

If I had money I would. Supposedly he's coming up here right after Christmas so we'll see. :D

do NOT pay to regear a Dana 35. They are NOT worth the investment. grab a 35/44/8.8/8.25 from the junkyard with the better gears already installed. :thumbsup: What size tires are you running?

We had a member not too long ago who found out one of the potential effects of using an XJ axle unmodified. One leaf was straight up and down like normal and the other had taken on all of the offset. The bushings on that side had completely obliterated themselves. Don't do it. perches are under $20 and welding can be had for a 6-pack. There's no excuse for doing it wrong.

could be other things too. but it's easy enough to check the U-joints. crawl underneath and shake the driveshaft. :thumbsup:

well, technically they might be illegal being they are unapproved lights in an unapproved location, but I can't see a cop pulling him over during the holidays. :D but running them on a mid-summer's night might pique some interest. :rotfl2:

do you have intermittent wipers? if so, then all of the above, plus the intermittent box under the drivers side dash. It's held up with velcro and has an input harness and an output harness that can be both unplugged from the box, then plugged directly into each other to check if the box is bad.

bottom line: it depends. The only way to find out is to do it and see. You should always plan for one, but if it's ok, then run it as is.

He's got the carbed 2.8L. are you letting it fully warm up before you take off and drive? I realize my 86 is a big pile of crap, but I gotta let it warm up first or else it's undriveable. (and that's funny. :D "the cold". :rotf: )

Well, technically you need either the gasket or the rtv. :thumbsup: They both do the same job. Some people like to put a thin line of rtv on their gaskets but it shouldn't be necessary.

assuming I'm still in Michigan when the thaw comes, how about a mini-get-together at my house one weekend? I could use the help with getting some of the fleet road worthy. and y'all can visit the junkyards by me. :yes:
