  1. Eagle,

if you do the amber rear turn signals with added backup lights, please post a write up.

    thanks.........bob

  2. give a look at the o rings on the oil filter adapter..........
  3. I seem to remember that the 0331 head was the one that caused all the cracks between #3 and 4 pistons on the year 2000 XJ.
  4. Do the emergency flashers work? Check the power to the turn signal flasher on the fuse box. if you have power, swap the two flashers. If you have power at the flasher and neither flasher works in the turn signal slot, check the bulb sockets, they are a common failure item. on the reverse lights, check the reverse light switch and go from there.
  5. Some time back there was a site named bobistheoilguy.com. It was started as a forum by and for petroleum engineers in Houston. If the site is still up, they will teach you in minute detail, everything you ever wanted to know about oil and filters.
  6. these modules are attached to the kick panel that runs all the way across the cabin under the dash.
  7. Has anyone tried to separate the Dakota or XJ lenses from their mounting base and tried to attach them to the MJ bases?
  8. First thing i would do before turning over the engine is remove the plugs and squirt some oil down in the cylinders. Leave the plugs out and spin it over to lube the cylinders. Schematics and troubleshooting manuals are available on this forum. They are mostly for an 88, but should work pretty well for your truck. As you know, if you get it running, these old Renix trucks are pretty much bullet proof........ good luck.
  9. Go to a junkyard and get one out of a Cherokee. If you get the two piece cable with the speed sensor in the middle, it is a lot easier to install.....
  10. That's the one, thanks Don regards..........bob
  11. Yes XJ, thanks Don, i figured if anyone had it, it would be you. bob
  12. Does anyone have a schematic of the overhead console?
  13. okay, guys thanks for the replies and the schematic. I will make sure that the bushing is in place or go get one if not. I know we put in a LUK clutch when the engine was replaced, but i am not sure if we replaced the master cyl.
  14. some time back the factory weld at the clutch pedal broke loose from the cross shaft that it and the brake pedal ride on. I had it re-welded and it works but i am hearing snapping and popping noises whenever the clutch pedal is depressed. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a bushing where the clutch actuating rod attaches to the pedal? Also, is there any adjustment to the length of the clutch actuating rod? I ask, because now, i have to push the clutch all the way to the bottom before i can shift gears. If I don't, every now and then I a get gear clash when i shift.
  15. Check your clutch pedal. Mine bottomed out when i tried to shift and nothing happened. the Clutch pedal had broken the weld that holds it to the pivoting mounting bolt. May be that your slave cylinder is okay.

  17. BOB IS THE OIL GUY is a site on the web that is run by a group of petroleum engineers out of Houston. Their forums will tell you anything and everything you ever wanted to know about motor oil and related subjects. That is where I first learned about FRAM junk.
  18. As i understand it, your dash lights are engineered to NOT work if your taillights are not working. It's a visual in cab indication to let you know that your tails are not working. Mine did the same thing and it was a case of hacked up trailer connector wiring. If you get the tails working, the dash lights should come on. if you have a trailer connection, search the forum for the correct wiring, make sure that its correct and see what happens.
  19. tilt out the passenger side end and hook 'er up
  20. find another starter rebuild shop.........nothing fancy about them.
  21. wouldn't hurt to remove the plugs and squirt some oil onto the pistons before spinning it with the drill.....
  22. check all your fuses. I learned on this forum that if your instrument illum lights do not work, they are designed that way to alert you that you have a problem in your tail lights that you can't see while driving. Mine turned out to be hacked up wiring to a trailer connector. Straightened out the taillight wiring and the inst cluster came to life......
  23. You will never find a more dependable truck, mine has over 300,000 miles on it and runs like a clock.....
  24. If you decide not to fix it, please try to sell it someone from the MJ forums.....they are most likely to take care of it..
  25. Well........I think we have a winner! Even tho this does not apply to our MJ's, I send it along for everyone's general fund of knowledge. After replacing everything we could imagine would affect the ignition, we have found that the alternator is intermittent. On the later model XJ's, the alternator is a part of the trigger for the coil. So, when it is not putting out, ignition is hit or miss. Another lesson learned about haphazardly replacing parts. Oh well, now there are several spares......
