How long are you down there Pete? Wife and I are flying in this Friday.....we'll be there thru the following Thursday.

    CC cookbook

jdog.....cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds (or not, if you want really spicy). I like to then lay them out on a plate cut side down and microwave them for a minute or so to par cook them, but you can continue with them raw if you want to. Cube up some block cheese of your choice (cheddar, or my preference is jalapeno jack) and fill each one. Then wrap them with a half slice of raw bacon (I like to par cook the bacon a bit as well, but you don't have to). Secure each one with a toothpick so the bacon doesn't unravel and then either bake them in a hot oven (or over indirect heat on the grill) until the bacon browns and the cheese melts a bit. Enjoy. Warning: they are quite addictive.
  3. ^^^^ One other random thought, since you mentioned this one needs a new rear axle. The upper control arm(s) on the rear are actually a one piece design called a tri-link (lowers are typical individual CA's). The tri-link attaches to the rear axle housing via a balljoint type pivot that has a tendency to wear out. If you do get it, and swap a new axle in, I would think about proactively replacing that arm (or you can buy the individual joint and press it in but it's a bit of a PITA). Might think about new LCA bushings too, just since you're in there already. Like Pete says, most of them on the road have not been well maintained.
  4. Oh yeah.....forgot about the ball joints. Check them also. Aside from crappy transmissions, anemic (at best) performance and mileage of the 3.7L, fragile aluminum cylinder heads that like to drop valve seats and/or keepers, and warp with mild overheating, cheap ball joints, and the typical Chryco electrical gremlins (my dome light likes to come on randomly and/or blink in time with the turn signals among other things)......they really aren't a bad vehicle. I'm with Pete though. I like mine too much to get rid of it.
  5. Small correction on the "trannys are junk"......yes, that's mostly true. But very early 2002's (like mine) got the 45RFE trans installed. Then they switched to the 42RE's for all the rest thru 2008. 2002's also all came with rear drum brakes, 2003+ switched all to discs. OP, take a good look at the cooling system on that rig. If it shows ANY signs of distress I would be wary. Overheating a 3.7L, even once, is a death sentence for them. The idiot gauge in the cluster should be sitting at just a tiny hair to the left of the center hash mark on the gauge face when fully warmed up. Oh, and BTW....bleeding the cooling system is a royal PITA on these things. You've been warned. edit: one other small thing. Crawl underneath and eyeball the rear joint on the front driveshaft, where it bolts to the TC output. If you see a ring of grease slung around the tranny tunnel, that joint is either dead or about to die. Rebuild kits are available for a decent price.
  6. It's 4WD. I might have been able to talk some sense into him, though. He's considering taking it to a shop to get it done. I'm only shying away from it because, although I really enjoy wrenching, I enjoy it in a proper shop (or at least a garage with a flat concrete floor) with some cover, and the proper tools. I have the air tools, but he lives about an hour north of me and I'd have to drag all my crap up there. And probably leave it all there for as long as it would take.
  7. I would assume the wanna be Casanova that skimmed my card bought his "date" some flowers. LOL. Last hack I had was for several repeated attempts to purchase electronic equipment at a Best Buy in Florida (which got denied), but the did manage to buy a $15 drink at a hotel bar later that same day. Credit card company asked me if I bought the drink the previous evening.......I said probably not, considering I'm in Virginia and the hotel was in Florida.
  8. Making dinner last night, I get a text on my phone. It's from Capital One, and it's a 2-factor ID text with a confirmation code for the card in my wallet. Great, I've been hacked (again). Called the number on the card this morning and found out there were three charges attempted on it yesterday. First one was for $1 (the "fishing" charge) that they denied. Then two other charges (that were still pending). One was for about $200 to flowers.com, and the other one was for.........$400 for an "escort" service. It's surely a sign that I'm getting old. I never knew hookers accepted credit cards Of course, my wife is questioning me now, just to poke fun at me. I told her she knows I'd never pay $200 for some flowers, and damn sure wouldn't ever pay $400 for the other.
  9. Long story, but my buddy has an '02 (ish) Suburban with the craptastic 4L60e trans. All indications point toward it broke the sun shell and it's currently not driveable. He's desperately wanting me to help him swap a new (reman) trans into it so he can get it moving and either run it or sell it off for as much as he can get for it. It's got other issues as well......Anyways, does anyone have any experience with these things? I watched a couple videos and it seems pretty straightforward, albeit there's a metric crap ton of stuff to disconnect/unbolt before you can actually remove the damn thing. Looking for any tips/advice/watch-out-for's if anyone has any. And of course, he wants to do this in his blacktop driveway, which is not level. On the ground, with hand tools, a floor jack, and with a 2-day deadline. I'm already regretting answering his text for help.... EDIT: dang it, I posted this in the wrong section....thought I was in Free Parking. Can one of you Mod Gods please move it for me?
  10. That sounds exactly like a bad/sticking IAC to me. I'd pull it out, inspect and clean it if nothing else.
  11. Check your belt routing, make sure your WP is spinning in the correct direction. edit: that diagram is for a non-A/C engine. If you have A/C, the top left idler pulley would then be your A/C compressor.
  12. I seem to remember when I took my header panel off on my 87 that I had a bolt/stud combo on each side. I know everything was OEM, so maybe that's normal? I do remember it being a total PITA to get the upper stud and/or nut undone.
  13. Funny, I just ran out and looked at mine (drove the KJ to work today). Mine are the same size/style as the replacement ones you got, and I have about 3-4" of clearance on the bottoms of them to the pad. Maybe it's an early model thing (the "pre-lowered" suspension people talk about......of which I still don't know if mine has or not, LOL). Unless you completely smooshed the h*ll out of your originals and they're pancaked down like that. Maybe they started out taller.

    Tool Talk

I'm just going to get the base model for now, to see how they actually perform. My main use will be in the garage wrenching on the KJ or the Focus. Once I get my hands on it I'll do a post about it either way, good or bad Sooo....the secret is to click all the lingerie ads I see. Interesting approach. I'll give it a try LOL.

That door pin tool looks pretty cool, and would be pretty useful to tradesman (painters, I would think most). I really HATE all the ads on Youtube nowadays, and just hover my mouse over the area where the "skip ad" prompt comes up in 3...2...1...and click it instantly. But every once in awhile one catches my eye, like yesterday for this product. I have a couple cheezy headlamps from Lowe's I use now, and I pretty much hate them. I will be ordering one of these this weekend: https://www.lightbarheadlamp.com/
  17. Wish I'da known you were looking for some, I could have peeped around down here for a set for you.....
  18. I solved this dilema by setting up the rear axle and then using a set of ACOS in the front to get the rake I wanted. I was using a set of TJ lift coils and didn't know where the front was going to end up sitting.....they worked like a charm.

    Fly bys?

My house is in between Ft. Lee and Ft. Pickett and we get tons of military helos flying over. You can hear them long before you can see them, lol. One day this spring I was putting my flags up on the front of the house and a "convoy" of them came flying over at a fairly low altitude. I stood in the middle of my driveway and waved my flag back and forth as they flew over me. One of them then rolled back and forth several times. I like to think he was saying "you're welcome" to me.....it was really cool.

    Fly bys?

My work is about 2 miles from Richmond International. About 2-3 times a year we get treated by flyovers of Air Force 1 (not the actual designation, the president is not on board). They practice touch and go's at RIC. It's pretty cool to watch...the glide path goes right over our building.
  22. Use your broken drill bit as a punch and punch out that roll pin. Don't try drilling it.
  23. Halligan bar solves most pesky padlock problems.
  24. I did the gas-down-the-hole trick on ground bees at my last house. Kept getting stung (and chased, lol) by them every time I cut the grass. I didn't light it, but did plug the holes with some sticks. Worked great, but.........a few months later my neighbor was complaining to me one day about the lack of fruits on her trees. She kept saying "there's no bees around this year!!!" Yeah, I kinda felt bad about that.
