Yeah, that would work. However, I was successful with the needle nose vise grips last night....got them all off. Mangled a couple of them but that doesn't matter because they're getting replaced with regular nylock nuts.
-
Pete....doubtful. I should have put a coin in the pic to show a size reference....those nuts are only about 10mm (if they were regular nuts). Gogmorgo, 2 of the 4 nuts I could probably get a punch on. The other two are recessed. I couldn't even get the tips of a pair of needle nose pliers on them. edit: found this on walmart.com.....last time I bought something off that site it was junk and my CC got hacked. But this is exactly what I need (assuming the nuts are M8, they could be M10 though) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wiha-34478-M8-SoftFinish-Triangle-Nut-Driver/174012214

Huh...never thought of those, and I do have them. I'll give them a shot tonight. Neither the e-torx nor the needle nose v-grips worked.

OK guys....need tool help here. I'm trying to remove an airbag from the cover assembly on the steering wheel on the Focus. It's held in by four "triangle" nuts. I found a set of specialty sockets on Amazon for VW/Audi's that will work, but they're $78 (hah!) and several days away. Can I pick up something like these somewhere locally? I do have a set of e-torx sockets I'm going to try to see if one of them bites enough, and also a pair of needle nose vice grips. Problem is that they are a bit recessed in a molded plastic bracket and a bit difficult to get onto. https://www.amazon.ca/CTA-Tools-1088-Triangle-Socket/dp/B06XTZDWX1 Here's a shot of one of them. A gator grip socket would do it, but won't fit into the recess:

I put a new clutch in my Focus awhile back. The kit came with a new internal slave/throwout that was an incredible piece of Chicom pot metal crap. I though briefly about complaining to Advance Auto but realized they probably weren't going to do anything about it, so I just sucked it up and bought a different one from a competitor that was an exact copy of the OEM one (stamped made in Germany). No way was I about it do all that work and have it crap out on me.

Mmmmm....lumpia. One of my wife's friends is Filipino, makes the best lumpia. Serves them with a sweet plum sauce. I could eat my body weight of them. LOL.

Knocking from bellhousing
mjeff87 replied to howeitsdone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Try (carefully) holding the clutch hard lines on either side of the BH while it's making the noise at idle and see if the noise goes away (assuming an internal slave/throwout). It almost sounds like your TO is loose and rattling around inside the bell. -
What is your location OP? I've got a 2WD beam axle out of my old MJ sitting in a barn in southwest PA. You can have it, you just have to go pick it up.

I'm giving it a few days to see if someone comes along and pulls it and leaves it lying underneath. Save myself some work, lol. And I pulled my KJ out of the garage this morning to drive to work (my left foot is killing me from yardwork over the weekend and I need to give it a clutch vacation for a day or so.....) and saw my passenger side front bumpstop lying on the garage floor. I might need to go grab the pair from that KJ.
-
I didn't grab anything from any of them........yet.

Took a mental health day yesterday, headed down to the U-pull to grab an ignition coil for the Focus (unsuccessful, but did manage to snag a fuel pressure/pump module). Over in the Chrysler section, there were a couple older XJ's and a few neat things. A 69 Wagoneer with the 230 Hurricane engine (not a spec of rust on it other than surface). I was going to snag the grill for some garage art, still might, but it's a bit dinged up. Then a 79 Cherokee (360) in fairly decent shape....no idea why it ended up in a junkyard intact like it is. Then, the quirkiest thing I ever saw was an 07 KJ, with the 3.7 and.......a 5 speed. I saw the shifter first and thought it was either a 4 banger or a diesel, but was shocked when I popped the hood and saw the (miserable) 3.7. I never knew they came with sticks behind a 3.7. Pretty neat. Anyways, all of this stuff was just set out recently, so if anyone needs anything off of any of them just shoot me a PM.

If those tires have air in them, please remove the guts from the valve stem if you're working with heat on the wheels. Can't be too safe.

Flywheel Condition Opinion
mjeff87 replied to howeitsdone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Some will say, probably correctly, that AX15 flywheels (OEM) have a slight concavity to them, and that they should never be refinished more than a light hand sanding else you'll ruin it. The concavity part might be true, but I've had flywheels cut and reused them with no issues. I'd blast that wheel with a can of brake clean, let it dry and then bolt the clutch together. -
Spacers on AX15 Transmission Mount bracket
mjeff87 replied to sergiorod1987's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is a definate homebrew mount using the wrong crossmember (AX15 uses a model-specific one). The trans body should be resting directly on top of the crossmember, not hanging off the back of it like that. Clever idea there, but I think that's where your problem lies. -
Welp, thanks for all the weigh-in guys (no pun intended...), but this project ain't gonna happen any time soon. I just had a new roof put on the house Monday, and on top of that my house AC outside unit just crapped the bed yesterday. All of the fun money I did have, I now don't. (that Jeep will probably still be sitting there next year, when we go back up for next Easter........maybe by then I'll grab it. If anyone else is interested in it, shoot me a PM and I can give you details and contact names/numbers on it. It's in Phoenixville, PA, about a stone's throw away from Valley Forge national park).

Right? Black Elephant is some awesome stuff. 70's stuff (my displaced generation), mixed with i just don't know. Giggity. And the HU covering Metallica. Holy (we don't swear here on this forum) CRAP.
-
Don't ask how, but I stumbled across this band, called the HU. Mongolian heavy metal rock. Skip to 1:02....... I just found some new coolness that has been missing in my life

Roll pin, like Pete says No inner axle seals on D44's, the diff oil lubes the outer axle bearings.
-
Thats what I'm kinda thinking.

Considering what the guy wants for the FSJ (including the engine and a freshly rebuilt TH400 trans and a bunch of other stuff), its almost worth trying it. Option #2 is my buddy's Suburban, but the gas money id have to shell out would be astronomical. And its a hoopty that would likely break down somewhere along the way. Lol.
-
My 02 gasser has a rear axle VSS. I wouldn't scab a 3.7 into a go kart. Just sayin'.
-
Nope. Just a simple 2 wheel dolly. My KJ has the 45RFE trans (with new pan, both filters, and a fluid swap a few months ago), and has an OD lockout switch. I'm not too worried about it, but moreso the few thousand pounds hooked behind it.
-
What are the odds that my 02. 3.7L KJ could tow a 67 FSJ about 300 miles without me killing a busload of pregnant nuns? The FSJ does not have a driveline in it, but does have a front (D25?) and rear D44 axles with new-ish rubber on all four corners. I'd be dragging it on a 2 wheel dolly. Death or no death?

Not cooking for Easter. My wife and I always drive up to Philly to spend a few days with her "aunt and uncle", which really aren't her direct aunt and uncle. Long story, but they're semi-related. She (Aunt Minnie) does all the cooking LOL. She'll be 80 this year, her uncle is 85.....and can damn near drink me beer for beer. It's our one little getaway holiday every year that we don't spend with either of our direct families. We lie to each side and say we're staying home for Easter, and then "sneak" up to Philly. Good times. Ham, potatoes, rolls, all the usual trimmings, and Yuengling beer (yuk!).
