  1. Not sure if the compressor dimensions changed or not, but I just did plugs/cap/rotor/wires on my 01 TJ 2.5 last weekend. It took me about 20 minutes of rooting around in my toolbox, but I finally found the right size 5/8" plug socket, a 3/8" universal joint, and a small 3/8" extension and got on the plug. Had to snake the socket down over/behind the compressor and blindly guide it over top of the plug, get it seated, then fish the UJ down onto it. What a lovely pain in the azz that was, lemme tell ya. I'm having second thoughts now on adding a factory A/C compressor to my MJ for OBA after going through all that! Jeff
  2. Stock MJ/XJ/YJ wheels are 5.25" backspacing. You can run 10.5" wide tires on the stock wheels safelyand still keep them inside the fenders.....you'll barely rub the LCA's in the front at full lock, which you can fix by adjusting the steering stops or just remember to not turn the wheel the whole way on tight turns. The real problem happens in the back, with the space between the inner sidewall and the framerail. My 31X10.5's have about 5/8" clearance. You can alleviate that and run a wider tire with either wheel spacers or wheels with less backspacing, but then you end up contacting the flares (unless you trim them). 3. that just made me spit my morning coffee on my monitor......thanks Jim! :D Jeff
  4. "fit" as in thread into the bung? They are all the same thread/pitch as far as I know...the difference is in the signal wires, 1 or 2, and if it has a pre-heater (3-wire). All of the MJ sensors I've come across are three wire ones-one is supply voltage, one is return/reference voltage to the ECU, and one is the heater wire. Anyone....please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I'm just going on what I "think" I know about O2 sensors here (and FWIW, mine's currently unplugged on my MJ because it's causing stumbling issues once it warms up....) Jeff
  5. yes.....and yes ;) Jeff

just picked up a cap and rotor for the TJ at Advance Auto yesterday....shocked when I saw "made in USA" on them (GP Sorenson) :USAflag: Jeff
  7. I did mine in about 2 hours total a few months ago, working by myself. The driverside is the more difficult one of the two (at least on my 2.5L it was). Helps to have another set of hands to raise/lower the engine in tiny bits so that you can get the mount bolt thru both sides of the mount. BTW, the oil filter was in the way on the passenger side and had to come off to get the bolt the whole way out. Plan on an oil change while yer at it... Jeff
  8. nah, the coil's probably fine, but you'd be surprised at just how much noise that little retainer can make. I've got a set of extended swaybar disco's on the way to me in the mail....once they get here in a couple of days, I'm redoing the whole frontend with 5.5" coils and RE adjustable uppers to get my caster corrected and front DS back in. Probably won't be until next weekend tho, since I'm on call for work from now 'till Wednesday (yeah, happy New Year's to me  )
  9. I know you say it's brake related, but check the little coil retainer tab.....they're notorious for stripping the threads out of the coil mount and that little piece of metal vibrates around alot. Betcha that's what's making yer noise. Jeff
  10. first off, with an unknown maintenence history I'd consider an alignment, or a thorough going-over of the front end. Once all is in check, you can recenter your steering wheel via the adjusting collar on the drag link. Looking under the front end at the bottom of the steering box, there is a pittman arm attached to it that connects to the drag link. At the upper end of it, there is a clamshell sleeve secured by two bolts/nuts. Loosen the two nuts, then spin the sleeve to lengthen or shorten the DL which in turn repositions the steering wheel....spinning it clockwise (if you are looking from the driverside) will rotate the steering wheel shaft anti-clockwise, and visa-versa. Once the wheel is centered, tighten the nuts back up. HTH, Jeff edit: here's a pic of the basic frontend.....the adjusting sleeve is right next to the "drag link" picture tag. Image Not Found
  11. I made my own out of a compression tester hose and spark plug hole adapter fitting that came with it. Attach the fitting to a piece of air hose (I used a double barbed fitting and a couple hose clamps), set your air compressor to about 120 psi and use the pressure gauge on the compressor to watch for pressure loss. Kinda hack, but it works all the same. I used it to troubleshoot a 0 compression cylinder on a Ford Escort I had....ended up being the intake valve seat went bad on #4. As the pressure dropped, you could hear it hissing out of the intake manifold  Jeff
  12. little late on this, but if anyone searches 87-89 paint codes in the future, here's the listing from the FSM. Jeff Image Not Found
  13. excellent...merry Christmas to ya both ;) Jeff

  15. holy crap, hornbrod's gonna be all over that thing with all the chrome on it :D Your tranny is an AX5, not a puke-goat, if that makes you feel any better. You seem a bit, ummm.....excited  We can fix the 2WD issue in a hot minute. Merry Christmas, to you! Nice find. Jeff
  16. change the fuel filter? Might be clogged a bit. Jeff
  17. SOA will get you anywhere from 4 to 6" of lift, depending on the condition of the springpacks. Here's a shot of mine, which ended up at about 6", on 31's. Jeff Image Not Found
  18. Ohhh my.......Vinnie Pie!!!   We used to live in Greensburg. Went down to the Irwin shop on rt. 30. 19. this is the only pic of the two of them (mostly) together I have.....I took it the night I brought the TJ home :D Nice weather you're having out there, BTW! Jeff Image Not Found
  20. Nice....(I'm stuck here at work like you for another 3.5 hrs as well). I should post a pic of my MJ/TJ combo side by side too, but they are exactly opposite yours. MJ is at +6" and the TJ is stock  Jeff
  21. yeah, just push it into the center of the fitting while pumping. Use a rigid line on the output of the gun, not a flexible one or else you're gonna need three hands ;) The gun will be hard to squeeze, but it will flow grease thru the needle tip, trust me. Another alternative, if you don't want to buy the needle fitting (but it is a good tool to keep in the box), is unscrew the flat fitting and insert a nipple fitting and use the regular tip on the grease gun. When the joint is packed, swap the flat fitting back in. Jeff

  24. "Conquistador...your stallion sits, in need of company......" Up the ante a bit ;) Hint, it's not the same genre of music thus far discussed in the thread, but classic (IMHO  ) Jeff
