  1. not carb cleaner....use TB cleaner. Make sure it specifies that it won't harm O2 sensors. Jeff
  2. yeah...speaking of loctite.....I did a full fluid change on the TJ over the weekend. Got to the tranny (AX5) and almost broke off my torx bit getting the fill plug loosened. Yup....loctit-ed (RED) from the factory. The plug head even had "DO NOT REMOVE" stamped in it  . Funnay......hope I didn't "void the warranty" :D Jeff
  3. ...uh...what does that accomplish???? you don't need the fan in the winter, same as you don't need the a/c. it's cold. now you have to drive with A/C on so you can cool your engine (more than it should need to be)...I don't get it lol  Because when the AC compressor engages, the fan comes on to regulate head pressure in the condensor in front of the radiator. Disco the compressor, it doesn't engage, but the fan does. Jeff
  4. mmmmm....yeah. That was a bit ugly ;)
  5. 4.0 with AW4? Most likely 3.55 4.0 with manual (AX15 or BA10/5)? Most likely 3.07  The only sure fire way to definately find out is to pop the cover and spin the ring gear around until you see a bunch of numbers....at the very end of the string, the tooth count of the r&p is stamped into it. Plus, you need to change your diff fluid anyway, right? :D Jeff edit: like such....this is a 3.07 set from a Dana 44 (which is now under my MJ, but it ain't 3.07 anymore...) HTH Image Not Found
  6. More than a few of us here and on NAXJA have done the conversion. It really is pretty straightforward, but there are a few specific things you have to be aware of when sourcing parts, so everything plays nice together when you're done. I don't have a writeup of mine, but am glad to help you out any with any questions you have.

    wrangler???

TJ's (coils front and rear) are just as bouncy, but I'm enjoying the snot out of mine so far. I can tell you, if you're not used to driving SWB Jeeps, they steer alot differently than XJ/MJ's. My buddy's YJ has a weird over-center feeling going down the road, and it kind of drifts/rocks left to right. The TJ doesn't feel that way, but because of the short wheelbase, the return-to-center isn't quite the same (a bit more sluggish if I had to describe it). SWB's require "active driver participation" in the driving process IMHO. If you even *think* about turning, the front end is already pointing in that direction, and I have to be careful to not cut corners too sharp. But, you can't beat the turning radius on them, compared to any other vehicle (jeep or not) that I've ever driven. They are a blast. Jeff
  8. Where's all my Black and Gold bretheren? Here's to ya  On the first day of school a first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Patriots fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Patriots fans. Wanting to impress their teacher, everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise, 'Janie, why didn't you raise your hand?' 'Because I'm not a Patriots fan,' she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked, 'Well, if you are not a Patriots fan, then who are you a fan of?' 'I am a Steelers fan, and proud of it,' Janie replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. 'Janie, why pray tell are you a Steelers fan?' 'Because my mom is a Steelers fan, and my dad is Steelers fan, so I'm a Steelers fan too!' 'Well,' said the teacher in a obviously annoyed tone, 'that is no reason for you to be a Steelers fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom were an idiot and your dad were a moron, what would you be then?' 'Then,' Janie smiled, 'I'd be a Patriots fan.' ------------------------------ ----------------------- Four football fans - a Cowboys fan, an Eagles fan, a Steelers fan, and a Patriots fan - are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more. The Cowboys fan insists he is the most loyal. 'This is for the Cowboys!' he yells, and jumps off the side of the mountain. Not to be outdone, the Eagles fan shouts, 'This is for the Eagles!' and throws himself off the mountain. The Steelers fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, 'This is for everyone!' and pushes the Patriot fan off the mountain. ---------------------------- ------------------------------ ---------- A Steelers fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Browns fan he saw strutting down the street in an obnoxious Orange & Brown shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, then swerve back just missing them. One day while driving along, he saw a priest. He thought he would do a good deed, so he pulled over and asked the priest, 'Where are you going, Father?' 'I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down the road,' replied the priest. 'Climb in, Father. I'l l give you a lift!' The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down the road. Suddenly, the driver saw a Browns fan walking down the road, and he instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved back onto the road just in time. Even though he was certain that he had missed the guy, he still heard a loud THUD. Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors but still didn't see anything. He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest and said, sorry Father, I almost hit that Browns fan.' 'That's OK,' replied the priest 'I got him with the door.'
  9. you guys are funnay.... ;) I'm only buying stuff that doesn't show up in the 'yard. Plus, a guy on a local board down here has a small aftermarket parts businiess (www.ace4wd.com) that I'm helping support. I like to spend my money, when I have to, either buying someone's used stuff or keeping my business local. I'm funny like that...... Jeff
  10. Check the linkage underneath to make sure it's all connected, and also check the vaccum hoses on the front axle disconnect. There's no electric involved....it's either a mechanical problem (linkage) or vaccum. Jeff
  11. Just pulled the tie rod and drag link from a V8 ZJ for $26, but yea I got dirty. Well worth it to have a that bigger solid tie rod. :brows: I'm running the ZJ tie rod on the MJ as well. When I pulled it I was gonna take the drag link too, but it looked the same diameter as the stock MJ one. Is it thicker?
  12. yeah, I think the Monroe's I got were like $19/ea. Like I said, they're just temporary so I can drive it (I tried with no shocks one day......NOT a fun experience!). I've got the RE mounts now, just have to get them on. Jeff
  13. FWIW, when Pat and I did my MJ, I bribed him out of his old RE adj trackbar and mount with some beer, $$$, and swap parts. Here's what I'm running (double shear). It ain't all shiny and new, but it's functional :D (jam nut was not tightened in that pic.....that's right after install ;) ) Jeff Image Not Found
  14. wow.... I've been decidedly quiet on the whole Rusty's debate, both here and on NAXJA.....up 'till now. That ain't right. Was that TB for a stock application, or spec'd for the lift you have? I can understand if it was stock length, but if it wasn't and that's what happened? Jeff
  15. or Mobil 1 75/90 synthetic. I just did a fluid change on the MJ last weekend (diffs, tranny, TC) and it really improved the AX5. It's got over 200K on it, but shifts smooth as butter again. I'm doing the "other" Jeep this weekend, too. 1-2 upshift is a little tight. Jeff
  16. Bacon....I'm really sorry....I just saw your post! (dunno what happened to the "notify me when a reply is posted" feature). I haven't had a chance to flex it out yet, but they are working fine on the road. I would have like longer extension, but that was the cheapest stock solution shock we could come up with at the moment. But.....Santa Claus paid me a visit yesterday after stopping off at Rubicon Express. He brought me a set of adjustable UCA's, and a set of shock mounts :D Hopefully I'll be able to get the UCA's in this weekend or next, along with a set of 5.5 TJ coils in the front and get my caster and pinion angle back and get the front DS back in. Once that's all set up, I'm gonna get the shock mounts on the tubes and pull those Taco shocks off. I've got a set of Rancho 5000's waiting to go on the rear once I set the lower mounts. I have a set of 9000's for the front, but they're too short :( Jeff Image Not Found

    your first car

'74 Ford Maverick......and I learned beer does not substitute for automatic tranny fluid, and Mavericks are not very good in the woods when you get off the trail :chillin: Jeff
  19. Round headlights…….I need help :D Just got home. I’ll put some daylight pics up in the morning, it’s Bud Light time now. Image Not Found Image Not Found
  20. Southpark, by the mall in Colonial Heights.....Dominion Kia (I live in southern Chesterfield, almost on the county line).
  21. I was gonna ask you where the "steeler" came from in your screen name....now I know  (although we're gonna get annihilated this Sunday by NE, I think  ). I actually got it from a Kia dealership, not Jeep. Went looking for a Kia Sportage, and ended up with a TJ off their used lot :chillin: Jeff
  22. Pics to follow tonight, or as soon as I can get outta work here this afternoon and go pick it up.... Yeah, the PP tax is a load, but I'm not complaining too much about it coming here from PA. VA only has 4% sales tax (none on food unless it's takeout), state tax isn't too bad, and the PP tax is at 70% relief from what it should be thanks to a former governor. Actually, I've never paid PP tax on any of my junk becuase we get 100% relief on it for vehicles over 100K and a certain amount of years old, but I'll have to pay something now on the TJ. It also applies to boats, motorcycles, trailers, etc. but I don't have any of that fancy stuff :D I'm glad to pay the few taxes we have (the roads are nice here for the most part), compared to PA. You name it, PA has a tax for it.... Jeff
  23. bought...... picking up tomorrow after work, once the new skins are installed and it gets detailed. What have I done????? :D Jeff
  24. Came off a '97 ZJ as best I can remember. If anyone has a set of D35 disc assemblies, I can measure these and see if there's any difference. Lemme know... Jeff
  25. I've got a set of disc backing plates/calipers/soft lines off a ZJ D44a I was gonna run on my MJ '44 but decided not to. They need new e-brake pads and rotors, but are otherwise complete, and I'd let them go for $150 plus shipping if you're interested (?) Jeff edit: $500MJ posted up while I was typing this......I don't know if the ZJ '35 and '44 assemblies are the same. I figured the D44a stuff would be a direct swap to my MJ D44. Anyone know if they're all the same or not?
