  1. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your port explanations. We had a great time.....her shopping and me drinking :D We did the Jeep excursion on Aruba, which was cool (shared a Jeep with another couple our age from Massachussets who never off-roaded before). Drank a ton of Balashi beer. Curacao was cool, but not much to do. Drank another ton of Amstel Bright there and bought a bottle of incredible banana curacao rum stuff (it’s like banana eggnog with a big kick). St. Marteen, sat on the beach and had conch fritters and soup, and met a new beer friend of mine, Presidente (it's made from grits). About 20 of them and some guavaberry rum and I pretty much don’t remember what else we did. Bought a bottle of guavaberry to bring home. St. Thomas was awesome…..we did the jet/diesel boat thing (still have bruises on my arm and hip from that) and enjoyed a joyous mixture of Amstel, Presidente, Carib, Corona, and a Belgian wheat ale called Blue Moon (with orange slices) that was outstanding. Puerto Rico was incredible, we stayed in downtown San Juan at an old convent turned into an upscale hotel called El Convento. Found an awesome local bar right up the street and we chowed on local Puerto Rican food and swilled down Medallas.
  2. Me and the wife, drunk in St. Marteen (guavaberry rum is good breakfast food :D ) Jeff Image Not Found
  3. 2.5's don't have a cam sensor. Make sure you are on the compression stroke, bring #1 to TDC and verify it by the timing mark on the harmonic balancer (yes, it's there along with the degree scale marker although it's useless for anything other than TDC reference). The rotor tip, if you are looking directly at it from the passenger fender, "should" be pointing at 4 o'clock. Then position the plug wires 1-3-4-2. Jeff
  4. you need to press the pedal hard (very hard) from inside the cab until you hear a "pop" sound from the prop valve. That resets the switch. Jeff
  5. I'll be purchasing a set of them when I get back from vacation....lemme know how they work out. Nobody who's bought them so far has had anything but good to say about them, which is a good thing :D Jeff
  6. Actually, there are three kinds of speedos. Two of them use cables, and the attachment of the cable to the speedo head is different. One (the early type) uses a metal clip to hold the cable to the speedo. The later type uses a white nylon clamp. Unfortunately, 1987 was the "swing" year, and I believe the change may have been made mid-year in 1987, so you need to look at YOUR speedometer to determine which type of cable attachment you have. Look at the screwheads that hold the faceplate of the speedometer on, they are either slotted or phillips head. I can't remember which is which now, but each screw type corresponds to each type of cable. Just make sure your replacement cluster has the same screwhead type as your original one and the cable will be compatible....or if they are different get the speedo cable that was attached to the new cluster and replace your cable. If you go the replace-the-cable route, make sure the donor vehicle is the same # wheel drive as yours (2 or 4WD), as they are different length cables (4WD is longer). Jeff
  7. if it's just for the sake of shipping it, unbolt the entire shift housing from the trans body. There shoud be a retaining ring with 3 bolts in it under that rubber boot at the base of the shifter (part #19). Pull the bolts out and remove the entire shifter.... Jeff Image Not Found
  8. just got home from work and looked at it again the sock strainer is rotated 180 degrees, not 90, and is not adjustable. Also, I'm wondering if the overall in-tank length is the same and if the return line will fit into the "cup" in the inner tank (it looks like it's the same by eyeballing it). The plate that fits into the side of the tank looks to be a bit more angled, too, but that can be adjusted by a careful bend of the hardline. Can it work? probably Can it work without some modification? looks unlikely I've had my stock fuel pump assembly in and out 3 times now...thankfully neither of the hardlines have cracked where they are prone to. But, I disconnect the soft lines where the connect to the hard fuel lines on the body, not from where they exit the tank, just to be safe. Jeff
  9. Get better soon, Joe....although apart from your ailments you seem to have a pretty good setup going there right now....3 hots and a cot, internet, sexy nurses :brows: ..... Jeff
  10. I've got a new Airtex #7091 assembly sitting in a box right now. The only difference I can see, even though they list it both for the XJ and MJ, is that the sock strainer at the bottom is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from where it should be. I'll be swapping it in in about a month or so, and was planning on modifying it somehow when I do....there is a small slot in the lower pump mount that lines up with a plastic tang on the strainer head. I was thinking of either cutting a new slot or using the pump mount from my current MJ assembly. I can toss some pics of it up if you want to see them, lemme know. Jeff
  11. Thanks for the low down! They are running Voyager class ships on this route, we're on Adventure of the Seas....130K ton, 1020 ft, and 157' beam  That's about as big as we want to be on, anything over that is too many people (even this class is pushing it.....) Sunblock has been secured, SPF80 for the wife (she fries like a potato chip) and SPF4 for me. Bought a new spray-on protectant for me this year that you spray on your head. I'm gettin' pretty thin up there, and burn my head EVERY year when I'm out in the water, and she won't let me wear a doorag, so we'll see if it works or not. It better, 'cause it cost 8 friggin' dollars!
  12. Royal Carribean, all the way! We've never been to any of these ports of call before, so it oughta be a blast. We've been all over the western Carribean, Bermuda, Belize, and our two favorites are Cozumel and Grand Cayman. This trip was planned for relaxation mostly...not doing much other than a Jeep "safari" trip in Aruba. Might to some snorkeling too, but that's about it other than the booze :D
  13. OK, I'm in heavy research mode here (sitting at my PC with a 12 pack of Bud Light....), trying to identify local beers. I make it a habit of supporting the local economy wherever we travel :D and am trying to come up with the local/national beers of the places on our itenerary. I've got Balashi as the beer of Aruba, Blackbeard Ale and Foxy's Lager for the Virgin Islands collectively, and Medella Light for Puerto Rico. Can't find anything specific for Curacao, though.....any help (mvusee)??? Jeff
  14. I don't know the first thing about painting, but you just gave me the new sig line I've been looking for  Jeff
  15. 86 the Barbados......not on the itinerary. My wife makes all the plans, I just fork over the money, what do I know :D Where's the bar, I need a drink now  Jeff Image Not Found
  16. use it on most any fastener you want to ensure stays fastened. Blue if you want to be able to take it apart at some point down the road, red if you don't plan on ever taking it apart again. Jeff
  17. LOL...I forgot about that one last year..... We're doing a Jeep "safari" excursion in Aruba. I plan on getting *accidentally* seperated from the group :D I wanted to go feed the sharks and look for Natalie Holloway, but the wife nixed that idea. There's plenty of rum where we'll be, so I'll guarantee some good pics. No, Jerry, you can't have my MJ. I've got it booby-trapped ;) Jeff
  18. Wife and I are leaving Friday for DC. Nice dinner and sleepover, then we fly to Puerto Rico Saturday. Sunday we board the boat for the southern Carribean....Aruba, Barbados, Curacao, St. Marteen and St. Thomas, then back to Puerto Rico.....we'll be back at the end of the month, maybe :chillin: If I get drunk enough and find a job selling beach umbrellas to tourists, we may just stay. At least y'all will know what happened to us ;) Someone don't forget to let the dogs out, feed the cats, and take the garbage cans up to the curb Monday night. Don't burn the place down while we're gone :D
  19. I started with a free MJ D44 with 3.07's (traded an XJ D44 I had for it even-up). Bought a locker already installed in a high-ratio carrier from a friend on NAXJA for $300, swapped some other spare parts I had for a set of new D44 4.56's with master install kit, and paid a local jeeper $100 to set it all up. All done, out the door cost (including lube, gaskets, etc) was right around 500. Already had the matching D30 with 4.56's that I pulled from the junkyard about 2 years ago for $100. Jeff
  20. the throttle response between a 2.5 TBI and an MPFI are like night and day.....
  21. torque it 'till one or two veins in your forehead pop......then another 1/4 turn :D Jeff
  22. like I posted on NAXJA, no, it won't fit.....your friend will need a 4WD yoke. Motion, you have to compare the output splines of the 2WD tranny (at the end of the extension housing), which is 21 spline like Genovast said, to the 231 output, which is 27 spline. I made the same assumption when I converted mine to 4WD as well  Jeff
  23. Because it has to illuminate at key on as part of the test. Jeff
  24. This won't help you immediately, but down the road consider installing a later model XJ dual diapraghm booster. I put one in my MJ this past summer, and I can lock up the 33's on it now. Had to relocate the washer fluid resivoir and run new lines to relocate the prop valve, but other than that it was a fairly painless swap Check your pistons in the calipers....one of them might be hanging up a bit. 25. Happy birthday Pat! Jeff
