I dunno :dunno: all of my research was done on 87+ circuit-wise, there's only a few that pass thru the BH connector to the fuse panel and interior harness that really affect drivetrain management (starter circuit, fuel pump, etc). Most everything else is accessory wiring. Most all of the engine management is handled by the tail end of the underhood harness (which connects to the front half of the harness with multiple weatherpack connectors right around the relay center area on the passenger side fenderwell), which connects the various sensors to the ECM.

I've got a pinout of the 84-86 bulkhead connector, and it's quite different circuitry from the 87-90 one. I would comfortably say you'd have to swap full harnesses (underhood and interior) for "everything" to function correctly. If you would be looking to just getting the engine to fire and run, you could probably splice a few wires together from the existing harness.

I've got a fairly extensive writeup/post in the projects forum on my 2.5/4.0 swap, but in this case most of it didn't apply to the OP, so I didn't mention it. Mine's an 87, so there were no firewall and/or front clip issues, and I had a 2.5 not a 2.8 so all the wiring on mine was just plug and play. I won't hazard a guess on the 86 wiring schematics because I simply don't know the differences in the harnesses between the years and different engines. But I did extensive research on my swap, including tracing every circuit from both the bulkhead connector to the engine, and from the engine to the ECU.....everything is the same between a 2.5 and 4.0 so long as you stay within the Renix era. Wire colors changed a bit, but the circuits are all the same (I'm running an 89 MJ underhood harness plugged into my stock 87 2.5 bulkhead/interior harness) Same thing goes with swapping an HO engine into a Renix or visa versa.......I don't comment on those swap questions simply because I don't know the differences. Insta-lawn :D Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found They screwed up here on the side and went way over the property line (see the stake by the hydrant?) Image Not Found That caused them to run short in the back….. :shake: Image Not Found So the construction manager is going to have them finish off their screwup all the way to the silt fence (for free) and then have them finish off the back as planned :chillin: I’m actually kind of enjoying this whole house-building adventure  Jeff

Well, one minor victory and one step closer to closing.....I locked in the interest rate late yesterday for 30 days at 4.875%. It should have been 4.5% but the mortgage co f'ed up (long story I won't go into, but they fired our "loan specialist" and I'm still steaming over it). Sod is being put in as we speak, and the VA appraiser "should" be out tomorrow or Thursday to do the final appraisal. We go back on Thursday for the final walkthru to make sure they fixed the 300 little things we found wrong on the post-construction walk (Missi and I were in a very pizzed off mood when we did it and we didn't show any mercy.....used a half a roll of blue painters tape to mark EVERY little thing) Remotely slim chance we go to close late this week, but the move is still not gonna happen until next Saturday the 27th. We need to get in and hang blinds, shower curtains, etc....and I need to seal the garage floor and let it cure up a few days anyway. I know if I don't do it now while it's empty, it'll probably never get done. I know how I work  Jeff

Wiper motor replacement
mjeff87 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
you've officially inspired me to finally replace mine Rich :waving: Jeff -
great pics partsmj, thanks for posting them. Love the 715, and the FC dump bed absolutely kicks arse Landsford....somewhere close to Philly?? We have kin up that way we're planning on visiting in a month or three. If yer close enough maybe we can meet up for a beer or ten  Jeff

yellow top in my MJ.....bought it used 3 years ago, dead. Charged it, been fine since. Even crawled my way up onto a flatbed trailer with the starter, uphill and up ramps ('cause the trailer winch couldn't pull it up), with it when my clutch slave died last year. YMMV. Jeff

guys....there's too much shiat that has to happen "perfectly" in order for us to close and move on the 20th (although it may happen, but I doubt it). So, I''m officially moving the move date to the 27th, just to be on the safe side. Best possible scenario right now is that we close on the 19th, and I can't say with 100% certainty that's gonna happen. I'd rather err on the safe side and call the 27th...........all the more time for me to buy booze and eats for yinz anyhow  Jeff

cherokee fuel pump same as a comanche?
mjeff87 replied to trapperbb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don (and OP), I'm running a full pump/sender from an HO MJ on my Renix.....it works fine, excpet the fuel gauge reads backwards and is several ohms off...1/4 tank on the gauge is "full" (not sure what is empty, never ran it past 7/8 on the gauge ;) ) Jeff -

Hey man, sorry I didn't see your post when you put it up. Welcome to the CC, and THANKS for the offer  You and yours are more than welcome to come on over if it fits your schedule, even if you can't help with the move per se......there will be plenty of partying going on. I'm setting this up as more of a meet and greet than a desperate plea for help :D C'mon over, and meet up with us! Jeff

well...yer still walking and talking Greg, so it couldn't have gone THAT bad ;) Bring her along....she can kibbitz with all the other women-folk on where to put the dishes, what color curtains would look nice above the commode, etc......while the rest of us proceed to hammer down some booze and grill some dead animals out back :D Seriously, there's gonna be a gaggle of women folk here, and we're prepping libations and grub for everyone (chicken breasts, wine, etc, etc......). UPDATE TO THE UPDATE.....got home today and there was a nice big fat envelope from ARPERCEN in my mailbox that had copies of my DD214, points statement, and seperation from service (honorable, of course) inside Looks like it's game-on for the 20th, but I'll still post an update once I get the paperwork to the VA and they issue my COE. Jeff

best of luck Brent..... Jeff

UPDATE........ still haven't nailed down the official close date yet due to some last minute "issues". One of them got corrected immediately after I threatened to cancel the closing unless it got resolved  , but the bigger more important one is still up in limbo and unfortunately out of my direct control at this point (dealing with the VA to get my certificate of eligibility reissued to me......the mortgage co. dropped the ball on filing the correct paperwork and I haven't gotten the new COE yet). On a happy note, the mortgage "specialist" that was handling our sale is now unemployed, or at least not employed by the mortgage company she used to be with  We're still hoping to close mid-to-late next week and do the move on the 20th (we're doing the final walkthru inspection tomorrow afternoon in preparation), but there is a slight possibilty that we may have to postpone the closing until the following week as we wait for the VA. As soon I we confirm everything, I'll update y'all again.....PM me some phone numbers if you want me to call you directly, especially if you're planning on traveling any distance to come for the hoedown. I also completely understand that if we do not move on the 20th as we were planning and anyone can't make the rescheduled date (if that has to happen). My wife and I are extremely grateful to all of you to even offer to come help us, even if you can't make it. Jeff

Vacuum Reservoir Relocation
mjeff87 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I originally moved mine to the radiator header panel when my MJ was still a 2.5 (there's plently of room there with the 4 banger but not with the 4.0) Then I moved it to where you moved yours Don......then I swapped a dual diapraghm booster in and had to relocate the washer fluid resivoir....it fit perfectly right above the blower motor ;) So I moved the vac blimp to the inside fenderwell where the resivoir used to live at. It's all pieces n' parts, which is what I love about Jeeps. Still thinking about swapping in the late model XJ resivoir that lives inside the fender like you posted, but I don't know how long it would survive with the 35's :D Jeff -
low ratio carrier???????????
mjeff87 replied to 88mjmanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't have the link handy, but check Yuccaman's website....he has an excellent page on it with complete details on several different axles, front and rear, including carrier breaks for all of them. Jeff -
that, my fine feathered friend, is an XJ assembly as stated. I've got a brand spankin' new one of those, still in the box, sitting in the parts pile, anditdontwork ;) If anyone knows anyone looking for an XJ assembly, let me know. I'll sell mine for half the cost. Jeff
-
Dayum....for that price I'll unbolt mine and send them to you No extra charge for the hazing on the lenses, either :D Jeff

I've got a Renix sender/harness assembly that I pulled out of a junkyard 2.5 MJ. The only problem is that the faceplate has a couple (typical) cracks in it where the hard lines exit. I was going to have my neighbor buddy take it into his work and TIG it and keep it as a spare, but if you need it and can repair it locally, shoot me a PM and we can maybe work something out. I really don't want to sell it because of it's rarity, but if it means keeping another MJ on the road, I can be persuaded to ;) Jeff

still shooting for Saturday the 20th if you can swing it Greg. I promise it will be worth whatever torment you'll have to face with the Mrs. ;) For the record, there is now one unemployed "loan specialist" at the mortgage company we're dealing with. Sniff, sniff.....I don't tolerate incompetence. One more issue with the landscaping that I'm told will be resolved tomorrow, and we will set the official close date. Jeff
