  1. Anyone bother to check the dealer? I got two new tail lights last year for $48/ea.
  2. There's a rod that runs down the left side of the steering column that goes from the multifunction switch to the HO/LOW/FLASH-TO-PASS switch on the lower column. You might have knocked this rod off while replacing your headlight switch.
  3. I was told some full size Chevy and Ford pickup shafts would work, but of course you would have to fine one that used the Spicer 1310 series u-joints and the correct 27-spline slip yoke and diff flange. You might be able to salvage these from your old shaft and get them welded on. Then the shaft would most likely have to be shortened too. After all that, I just said the heck with it and ordered a new shaft from Tom Woods since my old one with the outer rubber sheath could not be balanced.
  4. Joint-to-joint on a LWB 2WD w. AW4 is 60-1/4". This is about 2" longer than the 4WD version, and can be shortened. Plenty of these in the yards.

  6. componentry, dayemed if I know if that's a word. :D Sounds good though. Jeff, your rig though is built right, and not likely to mechanically fail and wipe someone out. Thought I'd never say this, but I'd prefer some kind of state inspection here if only to limit some of the demolition derby looking wrecks that freely cruise around here. And then if one of these junks run into you, chances are they have no insurance, so your insurers have to suck up the bill, then guess what happens? More $$ on your policy. Oh well, the weather's better though.........

  8. Yes, but it's still a PITA to have to work on the rig to pass inspection, then put it back like you like only to risk some yahoo cop ticketing you later on. No inspections here, but with some of the total junk running around sometimes makes you wish there were at least a cursory inspection. Even insurance is optional.
  9. Yeah Jeff, I was failed once in VA because the wheels stuck out over an inch past the flares. Hopefully they have fixed that?
  10. Sounds like the headlight switch is fried mate. Since this is where 12V is applied to the headlights (there is no headlight relay), this is probably it. Pretty common, especially if you have installed higher wattage headlights and have not put in headlight relays.
  11. Okay Brent, here's how I plan to control my new electric fan. I'm going to put this inline thermostat (ON 190*, OFF 180*, it'll bolt right in) Image Not Found in the radiator tranny cooler line AN fitting right under my filler cap Image Not Found and use it to apply a ground to my new fan relay. Think it'll work?
  12. That's usually easily accomplished with a good running stroker.
  13. Here's one from a 91 4.0L, will work on Renix engines. Pulled it off when I upgraded my alt and electrical system. Needs the negative battery terminal fitted, but it's in good shape. $10 + shipping. Shoot me a PM if anyone wants it. Image Not Found
  14. When you do find one be sure to grab the air diffuser plastic piece that mounts between the front of the console and the dash. If you use your old one you'll have a gap.
  15. Yeah, me too. I'm thinking the best location will be where the aux fan sensor sits now on the left side of the block (at least on my HO). I'll just tee in the new sensor there.
  16. Ouch - forgot that. But the operating principle is basically the same, just no ECU involved. I found this thread on JU: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/sh ... ost8208927
  17. I'm thinking the stat housing may be the wrong place to mount the temp switch. The stock temp control switch for the aux fan is on the engine block, left side, and it closes and applies a ground (not power) to the ECU when the coolant temp reaches the high limit. The ECU then sends a ground to the aux fan relay coil to turn on the fan. Maybe the stat housing doesn't get hot enough to close the temp switch? Just guessing here........
  18. WOW! U B very fortunate.
  19. Weird. I bench tested one with a heat gun and wired it across a relay coil and it switched ON and OFF, but I didn't measure the temps. Back to the drawing board.
  20. I've used SensaTracs over the years on a number of vehicles and they have been fine. But when I lifted my MJ a couple of years ago and replaced the SensaTracs with longer travel OMEs, one of the rear shocks was completely shot, and they were less than a year old. You could compress it down easily and it would just stay there, no return. The other three were fine though, so probably just a freak thing. I much prefer the OMEs though for ride quality and handling.
  21. Well that's a good thing. :D Reason I'm asking is because I will be using this switch on my main electric fan when I replace the nechanical fan. Want it to kick in about 10-15 degrees ahead of my OE aux fan.
  22. Yeah, and it's a 2WD too. The asking price was $1000 or best offer. I made an offer of $10, and was declined..........
  23. My maternal grandfather was my teacher also. Taught me power slides, skid techniques, and most importantly, how fast you could go w/o losing it, all in the NH winters. I was nine years old when he started (it was on the sly from my parents). He also coincidently was the most intelligent man I ever knew. Intelligence is important, but learning from your mistakes is equally important, which of course you can't do effectively if you are an idiot. And the more you learn, the more experienced you are. So, to me, experience is most important aspect. I ALWAYS do the driving no matter who (whom) I'm with. Except on those rare cases when I can't walk, let alone drive. Guess that's intelligence too??
  24. Nice ride. :D Brent, you must trust your son very much to lent him your MJ. No way would either of my daughters touch mine. Don
  25. How's the fan working? Got any start / stop temps using the TS195?
