The higher you lift the more the axle will get pulled towards the drivers side as the track bar which located the axle left to right has further to reach. A 3" lift typically creates about a 9/16" offset. So check with a straightedge against the fender flares how much your axle has shifted. You can either re-drill a new mounting hole in the track bar bracket (not recommended but lots of guys have done this), or fit an adjustable track bar as I did (Teraflex) to re-center the axle. After you get your axle centered, then align the steering wheel using the drag link turnbuckle.

Off topic Lead, but is that a factory stripe decal on the white MJ Pioneer? Have never seen that one before. Looks good!

Chevy 5 speed for a 2.5?
HOrnbrod replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good info and Jeep tranny swaps, bell housings, and adaptability HERE -
Agree, and I think that was one hell of a buy. And Bob, it's from MD, not VA. :D But no matter. I too would have jumped on it if I still lived up there, pulled the factory mount plow and controls and flipped it, then see how much work the truck needed (not much except the floors I'll bet), then flip that too. Super low miles, nice body/interior, and the 2.5 w. 4WD would make a super D/D for someone. Looked like it had MT springs too. Easy double your $$.

Man, I really like this rig in spite of the 2.5. Wish I had enough snow down here to make use of it. Second thought - NO, I don't. This would be great for the Wildman....... :D HERE

New lift, new problems...
HOrnbrod replied to ocskipper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Quick fix for the sway bar end links: If you're still using your stock 88 sway bar and links, get a set of 1992 or newer XJ/MJ sway bar end links. They are about 2" longer and will move the bar up enough so it won't rub on the coils. -
It's legit; it's expired range ammo, it's not "given away" to a "civilian". Don't ASSume.

Yeah, I'm against that. Give them Cali instead.

Sarah looks like a barn owl and Rick is truly gorgeous, but I voted for Brenda since that was the name of the first girl I ever............knew. :beerhead:

I bet Mom's not happy. :D Suggest you pull the carpet and bring it to a commercial cleaning facility with a HP steam cleaner. The hot steam under pressure is probably the only way to get that nasty thick gear oil out.

My nephew who is a --------- in the ----- Guard does a one year Middle East tour every other year. When he comes home he always brings me a case (1000 rounds) or three of Winchester 9mm FMJ 9mm rounds. He keeps our family home boys supplied w. all the 9mm and/or 45 cal ammo we need. 'Course he won't tell me how he gets it, but knowing him, it's strictly legit. :D

Actually, NOS flare mounting metal strips show up fairly often on Ebay for cheap. I got all six front pieces for $10, all new, and am only lacking two more for the MJ-specific rear flares. Just keep your eyes open. :D

That sounds like the tranny has been stuck in the COMFORT mode for awhile. I'd check out the POWER/COMFORT switch first and make sure it's switching with a meter. Douche it down with some contact cleaner. It's common for the contacts to break and/or stick.

Drive Shaft for LWB conversion
HOrnbrod replied to b52nav's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry to hear about your problems w. Tom Woods CW. First complaint I've heard about him on any forum. I'm coming up on three years using his driveshaft, and have had zero problems. BUT I don't offroad it and only have a 3" lift, so I don't have sever driveline angles, especially w. the long bed. :D I don't know what your angles are or the height of your lift is, but your pinion angles must be pretty extreme. Need a SYE maybe? Oh, and I like your new avatar. -

How long for fuel pressure to drop
HOrnbrod replied to maddzz1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmmm, that might work if turning on the ignition to ON opens an injector and lets the pressure bleed off. I'll have to try that while observing the pressure gauge. I suspect you would have to crank it over though for an injector to pulse. -
How long for fuel pressure to drop
HOrnbrod replied to maddzz1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't know which rig you are replacing the injectors on, but my 91 typically holds 40# of fuel pressure for about 4-5 hours. I know this because of the nifty pressure gauge I have installed on the rail. :D I wouldn't press the Schraeder valve to release the pressure on a hot engine block though; wait until it cools and wrap a rag around the valve when you do it. -
 UB a wise man senõr.

Locate some NOS ones Wahoo? They are still around at lower prices brand new than what the fish are paying for rags on Ebay.

Yeah, I don't think you would either Dr. Bob. But SW2 would. He's been in Cali waaay too long. :brows:

I think you are exactly right, as I have the late model V8 solid ZJ tie rod attached to the drag link, and the tapers are the same. So, this must mean the the adj. sleeve and TRE threads are smaller than 20mm on the 90 models and below; the reason for the different p/n's. I might be better off getting the 91 and above drag link part #8 and keep the bigger 20mm threads. Thanks for your help.
-
You asked for opinions - I think that would look stupid on an MJ hood w. the seam down the middle. MUCH prefer the Reflexxion cowl hood as above. But if you like it, go for it. That's all that really matters, not what the forum thinks.
-
Thanks, that helps quite a bit. I need part #8 below on my 91, and have a source for a new 84-90 factory part for basically nothing from our local dealer who I'm pretty sure is going belly-up very soon. I know the sleeves have different p/n's as you mention, and my 91 sleeve may not have the same threads. BUT if the 91 parts fit on your 88, same should be true in reverse. yes? Image Not Found

Do you mean the TRE thread diameter or the bar diameter?
