1991 2WD, AW4, 4.10 axle, 4.6 stroker, 265/75R15 tires, 13/14 mpg around town, 19-22 highway

I just installed a set of Cooper Discoverer A/T3 265/75R15's to replace the my existing 31's. The 31" tire's actual size was 30.5"x8.5"x15. Converting the Coopers from metric to inches their actual size came out to be 30.6"x7.7"x15. Basically the same size, just .8" narrower tread, which is exactly what I wanted. And they were 7 lbs. lighter - not much but it helps. So use the manufacturer's web site "actual size" tables to compare the old and the new sizes and you can usually find the exact size you are looking for.

Of course the 2WD shafts can all be shortened. The problem is that sometimes they can't be balanced afterwards because of the deteriorated rubber sheath inside.

It actually ran when I first put it together, and then I decided to do the two mods afterward. The truck would start up and run fine even when it was getting .36 Volts, but it would take a bit longer to crank over before it finally fired. I also am using a non chrysler CPS, a Standard Motor Products unit. Gotcha.

Makes sense. But I figured that since you have to be the bull enlisted guy there the Housing Office would probably give you a 5BR mansion next to the base commander. :thumbsup:

Impulse, when you swapped in the AX-15 to your 88, did you have to do that CPS hack just to get it running or to get it running better? Was it necessary because of an AX-15 bell housing difference?

Yeah, not much call for the Renix CPS relocation kit anymore. Advance Adapters used to sell them too. Looks like they're only available for the 91 and up HO engines now. One of your original options was to go HO - that's what I'd do instead of trying to find obsolete Renix stuff.

That can happen when the POWER/COMFORT switch is in the COMFORT position, and/or the AW4 TV cable is out of adjustment.

^^^ What he said. If you used the CPS that was with the "new" transmission, and if that's what you bought for replacements -- it couldn't work. They are different sensors and they work on different priciples. Totally not compatible. The HO CPS totally won't plug in the Renix harness either. If you can't figure it out, there is always THIS option.

^^ Yes, 96 was the last year for XJ column shift vehicles.

Are you using the "puke goat" tranny and everything else from the donor drivetrain? If so, the donor driveshaft will be fine since they are both SWB trucks. Also agree with Dirt - swap all the donor wiring over. Every year had subtle wiring changes and will save you possible electrical troubleshooting later.

No worries about firewalls or metal massaging on your model(s). The donor driveshaft may or may not work - you won't know until you get everything bolted in. That's one of the last steps and almost always doing tranny, tcase, and engine swaps you have to mod the shaft to fit. It's no biggie.............

I'm almost sure you will have to use the donor 4.0 harness, but will defer to the Renix people. If this were an HO 2.5 to 4.0 swap, you would need to swap the harness.

IF the 88 donor and the 89 have the same drive train (engine, transmission, t-case, axles, and whatever else) it's a simple pull the old, install the new transfer. Both are Renix and use the same harnesses so no problems there. Are they both SWB or LWB? What differences are there if any?

It's not a "hole," it's a threaded boss -- a blind hole. The Chrysler ECU doesn't use a knock sensor, but there's not need to plug to hole. Eagle, these knock sensors can be located basically anywhere on the engine in any threaded hole (1/4 or 3/8 NPT I assume?) since it's just a listening device connected to the Renix ECU?

What do you mean by "a new steering wheel"? A 96 and up airbag wheel?

^^ This. The 28mm bar is great up front, and a rear sway helps a lot more.
