I spoke with him yesterday again about the truck and the auction. If it doesn't sell on the auction he and I might make a deal. I am not going to reveal what he told me he would originally take for it but in my opinion the truck is worth it. It is optioned exactly like I would order one today if they were available. The fact it is a Renix does not concern me in any way. I would say to anyone that if you don't like a Renix....or bucket seats, or Pioneer hocky stick stripes, or chrome bumpers, or a Dana 44 with skid plates and tow hooks, then this truck is not for you. Find another one this nice and unmolested original that is for sale. When you do post it up for us to see. I ordered a couple thousand dollars worth of parts yesterday for my 90 Eliminator. When I get the truck done I will have over 15k in it. You cannot build a truck for the price of this one on Ebay. Anyone that has built these trucks.....or any other vehicle for that matter.....knows this is fact. anyway.......looks like there are a couple bids on the truck. They are still a loooooong way from his reserve. Going to be an interesting weekend. Bids are rolling - hope you get it.

Oh, bull$#!&. It is! HO's only have one washer pump connector. And one washer fluid level sensor connector. At least mine did. Hey Cruiser - like my new avatar? :rotfl2: No.... Good. IB keepin' it then. Seriously though, you do a hell of a job helping the guys keep their Renix fuel injection machines running as best they can.- 26 replies

Longer D44 wheel studs
HOrnbrod replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You could always use a set of the Spidertrax 1.25" spacers in the back. The studs on them are about 1/4" longer than stock and the wheels look better pushed out a bit too. -
Rear XJ Dana 44 to MJ swap question

From what I've read it's a damn good street axle, Dodge Vipers used them, but offroad - fuhgeddaboudit. -
Rear XJ Dana 44 to MJ swap question
HOrnbrod replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sure looks like a D44a................ -
The sending units are the same electrically, but the float arms are longer in the 23.5 tanks. The arm might not have enough room for full travel in a smaller tank so you may have to shorten/bend/alter the float arm to make it work. And there no 15.5 gal tank in an MJ. What truck do you have?? http://comancheclub.com/topic/51707-cc-members-edit-or-create-a-signature-to-describe-your-truck/

Broken windshield washer pump
HOrnbrod replied to Jacks15379's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had this problem on an XJ - turned out to be a broken stalk multifunction switch in the column. How do you have wiring for two pumps? :hmm: I do only because I installed the late model washer tank with two pumps inside the fender well and added the extra wiring for the 2nd pump.- 26 replies

Wow! Your truck looks outstanding; super clean and highlighted with tasteful chrome accents. That engine bay is gorgeous. You are a valued young CC member and congrats for finishing out the 2016 MJOTM year with style. -

The only gauges that are interchangeable to both Renix and HO gauge cluster housings are the oil pressure, coolant temp, and voltmeter.

Two Tiny Electrical Gremlins
HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You're missing the point. The voltmeter does not use the "cluster" 12V power. It's a stand-alone independent gauge; pull it from the cluster and hook up a 9V battery to it's terminals (observing polarity of course) and it will indicate 9V if it's accurate. It has it's own sensing positive input wire that passes through the cluster harness connector, then goes into the engine harness where it terminates on the fuse block. You have to ID this wire, disco it from the fuse block where it connects to the "gauge" fuse, then re-terminate it upstream so it can sense charging voltage before the branch circuit devices that drag the charging voltage down. From the little I've seen with Renix vehicle schematics, it will probably ohmed out to find a suitable sensing point that is still a switched ignition point. The Renix era wiring diagrams I've seen just don't go into enough detail to isolate the voltmeter sensing lead. Maybe the regulation 88 FSM schematics will show this, I don't know. The Chrysler FSM's sure do............. Anyhow, good luck, I'm done. -

HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why do you have to isolate the whole cluster? All you need to isolate is the voltmeter + sensing lead. For the HOs, it's easy; just locate and cut the sensing lead at it's PDC fuse and extend it over to the main PDC feed MAXI fuse, which is ignition switched. That way the VM sees pure charging voltage from the alt before it gets loaded down by all the branch circuits. Maybe it's tougher with the Renix system since they have no PDC, but by using the method it should be doable. -

There are plenty of hot fuses in the fuse panel; they are not all ignition switched. Get your multimeter and check each fuse with the keys in the glove compartment. -

HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good point - yes it would. To clarify, I don't have a schematic of the 88 fuse panel, but I'm sure there would be a good clean unloaded ignition switched point you could pick up on the panel. -
Two Tiny Electrical Gremlins
HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I took a peek at the 88 Electrical manual. The positive WHT/BLK sensing wire to the instrument cluster VM + terminal comes from the hot side of the 7.5A "Gauges" fuse in the Renix fuse panel. You could pull that wire off there and extend it to the nearest B+ full battery voltage point. -

You count right John. They are not stock MT 3+2 MT springs.

Two Tiny Electrical Gremlins
HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Had a similar problem with the VM dropping lower than I wanted it to whenever I used the headlamps and dual electric fans together. I broke out the wiring diagram and traced the voltmeter + terminal sensing lead back to the PDC fuse block at the fan feed wire. Removed it, and rerouted it to the big positive mains cable that feeds the PDC. Now the VM barely fluctuates off mid-scale. Of course it's wired differently on a Renix, but you can probably do the same thing. I prefer the VM to read the overall charging state of the battery, not drop or flicker whenever it sees a load.
